1 Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying,	1 E il Signore m'indirizzò la parola e disse:
2 Go and cry in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the LORD; I remember thee, the kindness of thy youth, the love of thine espousals, when thou wentest after me in the wilderness, in a land that was not sown.	2 « Va a gridare negli orecchi di Gerusalemme, a dire: Queste cose dice il Signore: Mi son ricordato di te, avendo pietà della tua adolescenza, e dell'amore del tuo sposalizio, quando mi seguisti nel deserto, in terra non coltivata.
3 Israel was holiness unto the LORD, and the firstfruits of his increase: all that devour him shall offend; evil shall come upon them, saith the LORD.	3 Israele è consacrato al Signore, è la primizia dei suoi frutti; tutti quelli che lo divorano si rendono colpevoli, sopra di essi piomberanno le sventure — dice il Signore. —
4 Hear ye the word of the LORD, O house of Jacob, and all the families of the house of Israel:	4 Ascoltate la parola del Signore, o casa di Giacobbe, e voi tutte, o famiglie della casa d'Israele.
5 Thus saith the LORD, What iniquity have your fathers found in me, that they are gone far from me, and have walked after vanity, and are become vain?	5 Così parla il Signore: Quale ingiustizia trovarono in me i vostri padri, per allontanarsi da me e andar dietro alla vanità e diventar vani?
6 Neither said they, Where is the LORD that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, that led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of drought, and of the shadow of death, through a land that no man passed through, and where no man dwelt?	6 Essi non dissero: — Dov'è il Signore che ci fece uscire dalla terra d'Egitto, e ci guidò attraverso il deserto, per terre disabitate e impraticabili, per terre aride e imagine della morte, per terre nelle quali nessuno passò, nessuno abitò?
7 And I brought you into a plentiful country, to eat the fruit thereof and the goodness thereof; but when ye entered, ye defiled my land, and made mine heritage an abomination.	7 E vi feci entrare nella terra del Carmelo, a mangiarne i frutti e le delizie, e voi, entrati che foste, la contaminaste la mia terra, faceste della mia eredità un'abominazione.
8 The priests said not, Where is the LORD? and they that handle the law knew me not: the pastors also transgressed against me, and the prophets prophesied by Baal, and walked after things that do not profit.	8 I sacerdoti non dissero: — Dov'è il Signore? — e, depositari della legge, non conobbero me, contro di me han prevaricato i pastori, e i profeti han profetato in nome di Baal, e sono andati dietro agli idoli.
9 Wherefore I will yet plead with you, saith the LORD, and with your children's children will I plead.	9 Per questo io contenderò in giudizio con voi — dice il Signore — e disputerò coi vostri figlioli.
10 For pass over the isles of Chittim, and see; and send unto Kedar, and consider diligently, and see if there be such a thing.	10 Passate alle isole di Cetim, e guardate, mandate a Cedar ed esaminate attentamente, e notate se è mai avvenuta una cosa come questa
11 Hath a nation changed their gods, which are yet no gods? but my people have changed their glory for that which doth not profit.	11 se una nazione ha mutato i suoi dèi, — e quelli non son dèi certamente — eppure il mio popolo ha cambiata la sua gloria in un idolo.
12 Be astonished, O ye heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid, be ye very desolate, saith the LORD.	12 Stupitene, o cieli, fatene gran cordoglio, o porte del Cielo, — dice il Signore.
13 For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.	13 Due mali ha fatto il popolo mio: hanno abbandonato me, sorgente di acqua viva, e si sono andati a scavare delle cisterne, cisterne bucherellate, che non possono tenere le acque.
14 Is Israel a servant? is he a homeborn slave? why is he spoiled?	14 Israele è forse uno schiavo, o figlio di uno schiavo? E perchè dunque è abbandonato al saccheggio?
15 The young lions roared upon him, and yelled, and they made his land waste: his cities are burned without inhabitant.	15 Contro di lui ruggirono i leoni, alzaron la loro voce; la sua terra è ridotta a un deserto, le sue città sono incendiate e senza abitanti.
16 Also the children of Noph and Tahapanes have broken the crown of thy head.	16 Anche i figli di Menti e di Tafnes t'han coperto d'obbrobrio sino alla cima del capo.
17 Hast thou not procured this unto thyself, in that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, when he led thee by the way?	17 E questo non è avvenuto perchè tu hai abbandonato il Signore Dio tuo, quando egli ti faceva da guida nel tuo viaggio?
18 And now what hast thou to do in the way of Egypt, to drink the waters of Sihor? or what hast thou to do in the way of Assyria, to drink the waters of the river?	18 Ed ora che vai a fare sulla via d'Egitto a bere l'acqua torbida? Che vai a fare sulla via d'Assiria, a bere l'acqua del fiume?
19 Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, and that my fear is not in thee, saith the Lord GOD of hosts.	19 La tua malizia ti accuserà, la tua ribellione ti condannerà. Riconosci adunque alla prova com'è doloroso ed amaro avere abbandonato il Signore Dio tuo, non avere in te il mio timore — dice il Signore Dio degli eserciti.
20 For of old time I have broken thy yoke, and burst thy bands; and thou saidst, I will not transgress; when upon every high hill and under every green tree thou wanderest, playing the harlot.	20 Già da gran tempo hai spezzato il mio giogo, hai rotto i miei legami, hai detto: — Non servirò. — Infatti sopra ogni alto colle, sotto ogni pianta ombrosa tu ti stendevi, o meretrice.
21 Yet I had planted thee a noble vine, wholly a right seed: how then art thou turned into the degenerate plant of a strange vine unto me?	21 Io ti piantai, come vigna eletta, tutta con ottimi magliuoli, come dunque mi ti sei mutata in cattiva, o vigna bastarda?
22 For though thou wash thee with nitre, and take thee much soap, yet thine iniquity is marked before me, saith the Lord GOD.	22 Anche se ti lavi col nitro e usi in abbondanza erba di borit, dinanzi a me sei macchiata per la tua iniquità, — dice il Signore Dio.
23 How canst thou say, I am not polluted, I have not gone after Baalim? see thy way in the valley, know what thou hast done: thou art a swift dromedary traversing her ways;	23 Come osi dire: — Non son contaminata, non sono andata dietro ai Baal? Mira le tracce dei tuoi passi nella Valle, riconosci quello che hai fatto, cammella leggera e vagante per le strade,
24 A wild ass used to the wilderness, that snuffeth up the wind at her pleasure; in her occasion who can turn her away? all they that seek her will not weary themselves; in her month they shall find her.	24 asina sei vaggia avvezza al deserto; nell'ardore della sua brama fiuta il vento del suo amore, nessuno potrà rattenerla, chiunque la cerchi non ha da durare grande fatica: la troverà nelle sue sordidezze.
25 Withhold thy foot from being unshod, and thy throat from thirst: but thou saidst, There is no hope: no; for I have loved strangers, and after them will I go.	25 Guarda che il tuo piede non sia nudo e la tua gola secca. Ma tu hai detto: — Non ho più speranza, non ne farò niente, perchè amo gli stranieri, e andrò dietro a loro.
26 As the thief is ashamed when he is found, so is the house of Israel ashamed; they, their kings, their princes, and their priests, and their prophets,	26 Come rimane confuso un ladro preso sul fatto, così son rimasti confusi quelli della casa d'Israele, essi, i loro re, i principi, i sacerdoti, i profeti loro,
27 Saying to a stock, Thou art my father; and to a stone, Thou hast brought me forth: for they have turned their back unto me, and not their face: but in the time of their trouble they will say, Arise, and save us.	27 che han detto al legno: — Tu sei il mio padre — e alla pietra: — Tu mi hai generato; — mi voltarono le spalle e non la faccia e nel tempo della loro afflizione diranno: — Alzati e salvaci. —
28 But where are thy gods that thou hast made thee? let them arise, if they can save thee in the time of thy trouble: for according to the number of thy cities are thy gods, O Judah.	28 Dove sono i tuoi dèi che tu hai fatti? Sorgano a salvarti nel tempo della tua afflizione. Eppure quante le tue città erano i tuoi dèi, o Giuda.
29 Wherefore will ye plead with me? ye all have transgressed against me, saith the LORD.	29 Perchè volete contender con me in giudizio? Mi avete abbandonato tutti — dice il Signore.
30 In vain have I smitten your children; they received no correction: your own sword hath devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.	30 Invano ho castigato i vostri figlioli: non hanno presa la corre­zione: la vostra spada divorò i vo­stri profeti, come leone devasta­tore.
31 O generation, see ye the word of the LORD. Have I been a wilderness unto Israel? a land of darkness? wherefore say my people, We are lords; we will come no more unto thee?	31 Che razza la vostra! Pone­te mente a ciò che dice il Signore: — Son forse diventato un deser­to per Israele, o una terra tardi­va? perchè dunque il mio popoloha detto: — Ci siam ritirati, non verremo più da te? —
32 Can a maid forget her ornaments, or a bride her attire? yet my people have forgotten me days without number.	32 può for­se una vergine dimenticare i suoiornamenti, o una sposa la sua cintura? Eppure il mio popolo m'ha dimenticato per giorni sen­za numero.
33 Why trimmest thou thy way to seek love? therefore hast thou also taught the wicked ones thy ways.	33 Perchè ti sforzi di mostrar buona la tua condotta, per cerca­re amore, tu, che invece le tue ma­lizie insegni e i tuoi modi di fare,
34 Also in thy skirts is found the blood of the souls of the poor innocents: I have not found it by secret search, but upon all these.	34 ed hai fatto trovare nei lembi della tua veste il sangue dei po­veri e degli innocenti? Io non li ho trovati nelle fosse, ma in tutti i luoghi ricordati.
35 Yet thou sayest, Because I am innocent, surely his anger shall turn from me. Behold, I will plead with thee, because thou sayest, I have not sinned.	35 E tu a dire: — Io sono senza peccato, sono innocente: s'allontani dunque da me il tuo furore. — Ecco io contenderò teco in giudizio su quello che hai detto: — Non ho peccato. —
36 Why gaddest thou about so much to change thy way? thou also shalt be ashamed of Egypt, as thou wast ashamed of Assyria.	36 Quanto sei diventata vile col ritornare al tuo modo di fare! Tu, sarai burlata dall'Egitto, come sei già stata burlata dall'Assiria.
37 Yea, thou shalt go forth from him, and thine hands upon thine head: for the LORD hath rejected thy confidences, and thou shalt not prosper in them.	37 Infatti anche dall'Egitto tornerai colle mani sul capo, perchè il Signore ha distrutta la tua speranza, e nulla ivi ti riuscirà bene.
