Jeremiah 2

1 Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying,	1 La parola del Signore mi fu rivolta in questi termini:
2 Go and cry in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the LORD; I remember thee, the kindness of thy youth, the love of thine espousals, when thou wentest after me in the wilderness, in a land that was not sown.	2 "Va' e grida alle orecchie di Gerusalemme: Così dice il Signore: Io ricordo di te la tua simpatica giovinezza, l'amore del tuo fidanzamento, il tuo venire dietro a me per il deserto per una terra non seminata.
3 Israel was holiness unto the LORD, and the firstfruits of his increase: all that devour him shall offend; evil shall come upon them, saith the LORD.	3 Santo era Israele per il Signore, primizia del suo frutto; chiunque lo divorava pagava la pena, la sventura veniva su di lui. Oracolo del Signore!
4 Hear ye the word of the LORD, O house of Jacob, and all the families of the house of Israel:	4 Ascoltate la parola del Signore, o casa di Giacobbe, e voi tutte, o famiglie della casa di Israele.
5 Thus saith the LORD, What iniquity have your fathers found in me, that they are gone far from me, and have walked after vanity, and are become vain?	5 Così dice il Signore: Cosa han trovato di ingiusto in me i padri vostri perché si siano allontanati da me e siano andati dietro la vanità sicché essi stessi son divenuti vanità?
6 Neither said they, Where is the LORD that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, that led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of drought, and of the shadow of death, through a land that no man passed through, and where no man dwelt?	6 Neppur han detto: "Dov'è il Signore che ci ha fatto uscire dal paese d'Egitto, che ci ha condotto attraverso il deserto per una terra arida e franosa, per una terra assetata e paurosa, per una terra dove non passa alcuno e dove non abita uomo?".
7 And I brought you into a plentiful country, to eat the fruit thereof and the goodness thereof; but when ye entered, ye defiled my land, and made mine heritage an abomination.	7 Eppure io vi ho condotto in una terra da giardino perché ne mangiaste i frutti e i prodotti. Vi siete giunti, ma profanaste la mia terra e la mia eredità la riduceste in abominazione.
8 The priests said not, Where is the LORD? and they that handle the law knew me not: the pastors also transgressed against me, and the prophets prophesied by Baal, and walked after things that do not profit.	8 I sacerdoti non han detto: "Dov'è il Signore?". I detentori della legge non mi hanno conosciuto e i pastori si sono ribellati contro di me; i profeti han profetizzato per Baal e dietro gli idoli han camminato.
9 Wherefore I will yet plead with you, saith the LORD, and with your children's children will I plead.	9 Pertanto: continuerò a polemizzare con voi, oracolo del Signore, e con i figli dei vostri figli polemizzerò.
10 For pass over the isles of Chittim, and see; and send unto Kedar, and consider diligently, and see if there be such a thing.	10 Sì! percorrete le isole dei Kittìm ed osservate; inviate anche a Kedàr e comprenderete meglio; poi considerate se sia avvenuta cosa simile a questa.
11 Hath a nation changed their gods, which are yet no gods? but my people have changed their glory for that which doth not profit.	11 Forse una nazione ha mutato divinità? Eppure quelli non sono dèi! Il mio popolo, invece, ha mutato la sua Gloria per un essere impotente!
12 Be astonished, O ye heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid, be ye very desolate, saith the LORD.	12 Stupitevi, o cieli, per questo, terrorizzatevi grandemente! Oracolo del Signore.
13 For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.	13 Sì, due malvagità ha commesso il popolo mio: ha abbandonato me, sorgente di acqua viva, per scavarsi cisterne, cisterne squarciate che non contengono acqua.
14 Is Israel a servant? is he a homeborn slave? why is he spoiled?	14 E' forse uno schiavo Israele, o uno schiavo di nascita perché è divenuto una preda?
15 The young lions roared upon him, and yelled, and they made his land waste: his cities are burned without inhabitant.	15 Contro di lui ruggiscono i leoncelli, elevano il loro urlo e riducono il suo paese a una desolazione; le città sono bruciate, senza abitante.
16 Also the children of Noph and Tahapanes have broken the crown of thy head.	16 Perfino i figli di Menfi e di Tafni ti raderanno la testa.
17 Hast thou not procured this unto thyself, in that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, when he led thee by the way?	17 Non ti è forse avvenuto questo per aver tu abbandonato il Signore, Dio tuo, quando ti conduceva per la strada?
18 And now what hast thou to do in the way of Egypt, to drink the waters of Sihor? or what hast thou to do in the way of Assyria, to drink the waters of the river?	18 Or dunque: qual è il tuo interesse per andare verso l'Egitto, a bere le acque del Nilo? E cos'hai per andare sulla via dell'Assiria a bere le acque dell'Eufrate?
19 Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, and that my fear is not in thee, saith the Lord GOD of hosts.	19 Ti castiga la tua malvagità e le tue ribellioni ti puniscono. Comprendi e osserva come sia malvagio e amaro che tu abbandoni il Signore, Dio tuo, e che il mio timore non sia con te. Oracolo del Signore, Dio degli eserciti!
20 For of old time I have broken thy yoke, and burst thy bands; and thou saidst, I will not transgress; when upon every high hill and under every green tree thou wanderest, playing the harlot.	20 E' da tempo che ho spezzato il tuo giogo, ho frantumato i tuoi legami quando dicesti: "Non voglio servire!". Infatti, su ogni colle elevato e sotto ogni albero verde ti sei prostituita.
21 Yet I had planted thee a noble vine, wholly a right seed: how then art thou turned into the degenerate plant of a strange vine unto me?	21 Eppure ti avevo piantata qual vigna pregiata tutta di ceppo genuino! Come, dunque, ti sei cambiata, nei miei riguardi, in tralci degeneri, in vigna bastarda?
22 For though thou wash thee with nitre, and take thee much soap, yet thine iniquity is marked before me, saith the Lord GOD.	22 Anche se ti lavassi col nitro e abbondasse su di te il sapone, sudicia resterebbe la tua iniquità davanti a me. Oracolo del Signore.
23 How canst thou say, I am not polluted, I have not gone after Baalim? see thy way in the valley, know what thou hast done: thou art a swift dromedary traversing her ways;	23 Come puoi dire: "Non mi sono contaminata; dietro ai Baal non sono andata"? Osserva la tua strada nella valle, riconosci ciò che hai fatto, giovane cammella leggera, vagante per le sue strade!
24 A wild ass used to the wilderness, that snuffeth up the wind at her pleasure; in her occasion who can turn her away? all they that seek her will not weary themselves; in her month they shall find her.	24 Asina selvatica addestrata al deserto! Nel calore dei suoi desideri aspira l'aria; le sue brame chi le farà calmare? Chiunque la cerca non s'affatica, nel suo mese sempre la troverà.
25 Withhold thy foot from being unshod, and thy throat from thirst: but thou saidst, There is no hope: no; for I have loved strangers, and after them will I go.	25 Evita che il tuo piede si scalzi e che la tua gola si inaridisca! Ma tu dici: "Impossibile! No! Ma io amo gli stranieri, dietro di essi voglio andare".
26 As the thief is ashamed when he is found, so is the house of Israel ashamed; they, their kings, their princes, and their priests, and their prophets,	26 Come si vergogna il ladro quando è sorpreso, così è svergognata la casa di Israele; essi, i loro re, i loro prìncipi, i loro sacerdoti e i loro profeti.
27 Saying to a stock, Thou art my father; and to a stone, Thou hast brought me forth: for they have turned their back unto me, and not their face: but in the time of their trouble they will say, Arise, and save us.	27 Essi dicono al legno: "Tu sei mio padre", e alla pietra: "Tu mi hai generato!". Sì, hanno voltato verso di me la schiena e non la faccia! Nel tempo, poi, della loro sventura, dicono: "Sorgi e salvaci!".
28 But where are thy gods that thou hast made thee? let them arise, if they can save thee in the time of thy trouble: for according to the number of thy cities are thy gods, O Judah.	28 Ma dove sono i tuoi dèi, quelli che ti sei costruito? Sorgano, se possono salvarti nel tempo della tua sventura! Infatti, numerosi come le tue città sono i tuoi dèi, o Giuda!
29 Wherefore will ye plead with me? ye all have transgressed against me, saith the LORD.	29 Perché polemizzate con me? Tutti voi vi siete ribellati contro di me. Oracolo del Signore.
30 In vain have I smitten your children; they received no correction: your own sword hath devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.	30 Invano ho colpito i vostri padri: non hanno accettato la correzione! La vostra spada ha divorato i vostri profeti come un leone distruttore.
31 O generation, see ye the word of the LORD. Have I been a wilderness unto Israel? a land of darkness? wherefore say my people, We are lords; we will come no more unto thee?	31 O generazione! Considerate la parola del Signore! Sono forse divenuto un deserto per Israele o un terreno desolato, perché il mio popolo dica: "Andiamocene, noi non torneremo più verso di te"?
32 Can a maid forget her ornaments, or a bride her attire? yet my people have forgotten me days without number.	32 Può forse dimenticare una vergine il suo ornamento, o una sposa la sua cintura? Il mio popolo, invece, ha dimenticato me da giorni innumerevoli.
33 Why trimmest thou thy way to seek love? therefore hast thou also taught the wicked ones thy ways.	33 Come aggiusti bene le tue vie per cercare amore! Perciò anche alle malvagie hai insegnato le tue vie!
34 Also in thy skirts is found the blood of the souls of the poor innocents: I have not found it by secret search, but upon all these.	34 Perfino tra i tuoi lembi si trova sangue di persone povere, innocenti, che non furono sorprese a scassinare. Tuttavia, per tutte queste cose...
35 Yet thou sayest, Because I am innocent, surely his anger shall turn from me. Behold, I will plead with thee, because thou sayest, I have not sinned.	35 E tu dici: "Sono innocente! Perfino la sua ira si è ritirata da me!". Eccomi: facciamo giudizio perché hai detto: "Non ho peccato!".
36 Why gaddest thou about so much to change thy way? thou also shalt be ashamed of Egypt, as thou wast ashamed of Assyria.	36 Quanto ti sei avvilita cambiando le tue vie! Anche per l'Egitto ti vergognerai come ti sei vergognata di Assur!
37 Yea, thou shalt go forth from him, and thine hands upon thine head: for the LORD hath rejected thy confidences, and thou shalt not prosper in them.	37 Anche da esso te ne uscirai con le mani sulla tua testa. Sì, il Signore ha rigettato le tue speranze e non avrai in esse successo!".
