Jeremiah 2

KING JAMES BIBLE	JERUSALEM
1 Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying,	1 La parole de Yahvé me fut adressée en ces termes:
2 Go and cry in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the LORD; I remember thee, the kindness of thy youth, the love of thine espousals, when thou wentest after me in the wilderness, in a land that was not sown.	2 Va crier ceci aux oreilles de Jérusalem. Ainsi parle Yahvé: Je me rappelle l'affection de ta jeunesse,l'amour de tes fiançailles, alors que tu marchais derrière moi au désert, dans une terre qui n'est pas ensemencée.
3 Israel was holiness unto the LORD, and the firstfruits of his increase: all that devour him shall offend; evil shall come upon them, saith the LORD.	3 Israël était une part sainte pour Yahvé, les prémices de sa récolte; tous ceux qui en mangeaientétaient coupables, le malheur fondait sur eux, oracle de Yahvé.
4 Hear ye the word of the LORD, O house of Jacob, and all the families of the house of Israel:	4 Ecoutez la parole de Yahvé, maison de Jacob et toutes les familles de la maison d'Israël.
5 Thus saith the LORD, What iniquity have your fathers found in me, that they are gone far from me, and have walked after vanity, and are become vain?	5 Ainsi parle Yahvé: En quoi vos pères m'ont-ils trouvé injuste pour s'être éloignés de moi, pourmarcher derrière la Vanité et devenir eux-mêmes vanité?
6 Neither said they, Where is the LORD that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, that led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of drought, and of the shadow of death, through a land that no man passed through, and where no man dwelt?	6 Ils n'ont pas dit: "Où est Yahvé qui nous fit monter du pays d'Egypte et nous fit marcher dans ledésert, dans une terre aride et ravinée, dans une terre desséchée et obscure, terre que personne ne parcourt, où nulhomme ne se fixe?"
7 And I brought you into a plentiful country, to eat the fruit thereof and the goodness thereof; but when ye entered, ye defiled my land, and made mine heritage an abomination.	7 Pourtant je vous ai conduits au pays du verger pour vous rassasier de ses fruits et de ses biens; vousêtes entrés et vous avez souillé mon pays, mon héritage, vous l'avez changé en abomination.
8 The priests said not, Where is the LORD? and they that handle the law knew me not: the pastors also transgressed against me, and the prophets prophesied by Baal, and walked after things that do not profit.	8 Les prêtres n'ont pas dit: "Où est Yahvé?" Les dépositaires de la Loi ne m'ont pas connu; lespasteurs se sont révoltés contre moi; les prophètes ont prophétisé par Baal, ils ont suivi des Impuissants.
9 Wherefore I will yet plead with you, saith the LORD, and with your children's children will I plead.	9 Aussi vais-je encore plaider contre vous - oracle de Yahvé - et plaider contre les fils de vos fils:
10 For pass over the isles of Chittim, and see; and send unto Kedar, and consider diligently, and see if there be such a thing.	10 Passez donc aux îles des Kittim et voyez, envoyez enquêter à Qédar et examinez bien, voyez sichose semblable s'est produite!
11 Hath a nation changed their gods, which are yet no gods? but my people have changed their glory for that which doth not profit.	11 Une nation change-t-elle de dieux? Or ce ne sont pas même des dieux! Et mon peuple a échangé saGloire contre l'Impuissance!
12 Be astonished, O ye heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid, be ye very desolate, saith the LORD.	12 Cieux, soyez-en étonnés, horrifiés, saisis d'une grande épouvante, oracle de Yahvé.
13 For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.	13 Car mon peuple a commis deux crimes: Ils m'ont abandonné, moi la source d'eau vive, pour secreuser des citernes, citernes lézardées qui ne tiennent pas l'eau.
14 Is Israel a servant? is he a homeborn slave? why is he spoiled?	14 Israël est-il un esclave? Est-il un domestique pour qu'on en fasse un butin?
15 The young lions roared upon him, and yelled, and they made his land waste: his cities are burned without inhabitant.	15 Contre lui des lions ont rugi, poussé leur hurlement. Ils ont réduit sa terre en solitude, ses villesincendiées n'ont plus d'habitants.
16 Also the children of Noph and Tahapanes have broken the crown of thy head.	16 Même ceux de Noph et de Tahpanhès t'ont rasé le crâne!
17 Hast thou not procured this unto thyself, in that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, when he led thee by the way?	17 N'as-tu pas provoqué cela pour avoir abandonné Yahvé ton Dieu, alors qu'il te guidait sur ta route?
18 And now what hast thou to do in the way of Egypt, to drink the waters of Sihor? or what hast thou to do in the way of Assyria, to drink the waters of the river?	18 Et maintenant, à quoi bon partir en Egypte pour boire l'eau du Nil? A quoi bon partir en Assyriepour boire l'eau du Fleuve?
19 Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, and that my fear is not in thee, saith the Lord GOD of hosts.	19 Que ta méchanceté te châtie et que tes infidélités te punissent! Comprends et vois comme il estmauvais et amer d'abandonner Yahvé ton Dieu et de ne plus trembler devant moi, oracle du Seigneur YahvéSabaot.
20 For of old time I have broken thy yoke, and burst thy bands; and thou saidst, I will not transgress; when upon every high hill and under every green tree thou wanderest, playing the harlot.	20 Oui, depuis longtemps tu as brisé ton joug, rompu tes liens, tu as dit: je ne servirai pas. Et pourtant,sur toute colline élevée et sous tout arbre vert, tu t'es couchée comme une prostituée.
21 Yet I had planted thee a noble vine, wholly a right seed: how then art thou turned into the degenerate plant of a strange vine unto me?	21 Moi, cependant, je t'avais plantée comme un cep de choix, tout entier d'excellente semence.Comment t'es-tu changée pour moi en sauvageons d'une vigne étrangère?
22 For though thou wash thee with nitre, and take thee much soap, yet thine iniquity is marked before me, saith the Lord GOD.	22 Quand tu te lessiverais à la potasse, en y mettant beaucoup de savon, ton iniquité resterait marquéedevant moi, oracle du Seigneur Yahvé.
23 How canst thou say, I am not polluted, I have not gone after Baalim? see thy way in the valley, know what thou hast done: thou art a swift dromedary traversing her ways;	23 Comment oses-tu dire: "Je ne suis pas souillée, après les Baals je n'ai pas couru?" Regarde testraces dans la Vallée, reconnais ce que tu as fait. Chamelle écervelée, courant en tout sens,
24 A wild ass used to the wilderness, that snuffeth up the wind at her pleasure; in her occasion who can turn her away? all they that seek her will not weary themselves; in her month they shall find her.	24 ânesse sauvage, habituée au désert, dans l'ardeur de son désir, elle aspire le vent; son rut, qui lefreinera? Quiconque veut la chercher n'a aucune peine: il la trouve en son mois.
25 Withhold thy foot from being unshod, and thy throat from thirst: but thou saidst, There is no hope: no; for I have loved strangers, and after them will I go.	25 Prends garde! Ton pied va se déchausser et ta gorge se dessécher. Mais tu dis: "Non! Inutile! carj'aime les Etrangers et je veux courir après eux."
26 As the thief is ashamed when he is found, so is the house of Israel ashamed; they, their kings, their princes, and their priests, and their prophets,	26 Tel un voleur honteux d'être pris, ainsi seront honteux les gens de la maison d'Israël: eux, leursrois, leurs princes, leurs prêtres et leurs prophètes,
27 Saying to a stock, Thou art my father; and to a stone, Thou hast brought me forth: for they have turned their back unto me, and not their face: but in the time of their trouble they will say, Arise, and save us.	27 qui disent au bois: "Tu es mon père!" et à la pierre: "Toi, tu m'as enfanté!" Car ils tournent versmoi leur dos et non leur face; mais au temps de leur malheur ils crient: "Lève-toi! Sauve-nous!"
28 But where are thy gods that thou hast made thee? let them arise, if they can save thee in the time of thy trouble: for according to the number of thy cities are thy gods, O Judah.	28 Où sont-ils, les dieux que tu t'es fabriqués? Qu'ils se lèvent s'ils peuvent te sauver au temps de tonmalheur! Car aussi nombreux que tes villes sont tes dieux, ô Juda!
29 Wherefore will ye plead with me? ye all have transgressed against me, saith the LORD.	29 Pourquoi me faites-vous un procès? Vous m'avez tous été infidèles, oracle de Yahvé.
30 In vain have I smitten your children; they received no correction: your own sword hath devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.	30 En vain j'ai frappé vos fils: ils n'ont pas accueilli la leçon; votre épée à dévoré vos prophètes,comme un lion destructeur.
31 O generation, see ye the word of the LORD. Have I been a wilderness unto Israel? a land of darkness? wherefore say my people, We are lords; we will come no more unto thee?	31 Et vous, de cette génération, voyez la parole de Yahvé: Ai-je été un désert pour Israël, ou une terreténébreuse? Pourquoi mon peuple dit-il: "Nous vagabondons, nous n'irons plus à toi?"
32 Can a maid forget her ornaments, or a bride her attire? yet my people have forgotten me days without number.	32 Une vierge oublie-t-elle ses parures, une fiancée sa ceinture? Mais mon peuple m'a oublié depuisdes jours sans nombre.
33 Why trimmest thou thy way to seek love? therefore hast thou also taught the wicked ones thy ways.	33 Ah! comme tu t'es tracé un bon chemin pour quêter l'amour! Aussi, même avec le crime tu asfamiliarisé tes voies.
34 Also in thy skirts is found the blood of the souls of the poor innocents: I have not found it by secret search, but upon all these.	34 Jusque sur les pans de ta robe on trouve le sang des pauvres, des innocents que tu n'as pas surpris àforcer des portes! Et malgré tout cela,
35 Yet thou sayest, Because I am innocent, surely his anger shall turn from me. Behold, I will plead with thee, because thou sayest, I have not sinned.	35 tu dis: "Je suis innocente, que sa colère se détourne de moi!" Me voici pour te juger puisque tu dis:"Je n'ai pas péché."
36 Why gaddest thou about so much to change thy way? thou also shalt be ashamed of Egypt, as thou wast ashamed of Assyria.	36 Que tu mets de légèreté à changer de voie! Pourtant tu auras honte de l'Egypte comme tu as euhonte de l'Assyrie.
37 Yea, thou shalt go forth from him, and thine hands upon thine head: for the LORD hath rejected thy confidences, and thou shalt not prosper in them.	37 De là aussi tu devras sortir les mains sur la tête, car Yahvé a rejeté ceux auxquels tu te fies, tun'auras pas de chance avec eux!
