1 Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying,	1 - E il Signore mi comunicò la sua parola dicendo:
2 Go and cry in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the LORD; I remember thee, the kindness of thy youth, the love of thine espousals, when thou wentest after me in the wilderness, in a land that was not sown.	2 «Va' e grida agli orecchi di Gerusalemme dicendo: - Così dice il Signore: "Mi sono ricordato di te nella compassione che ho avuto della tua giovinezza, coll'amore che ho dimostrato nel tuo sposalizio, quando sei venuta dietro di me nel deserto in quella terra incolta!
3 Israel was holiness unto the LORD, and the firstfruits of his increase: all that devour him shall offend; evil shall come upon them, saith the LORD.	3 Israele è sacro al Signore, è la primizia dei suoi frutti; tutti coloro che lo divorano commettono un delitto: incoglieranno loro mali" -» dice il Signore.
4 Hear ye the word of the LORD, O house of Jacob, and all the families of the house of Israel:	4 Udite la parola di Dio, casa di Giacobbe e tutte voi, o famiglie della casa d'Israele.
5 Thus saith the LORD, What iniquity have your fathers found in me, that they are gone far from me, and have walked after vanity, and are become vain?	5 Così dice il Signore: «Che cosa hanno trovato i vostri padri in me di cattivo, che si sono allontanati da me e andarono dietro a una cosa vana e diventarono vani?
6 Neither said they, Where is the LORD that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, that led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of drought, and of the shadow of death, through a land that no man passed through, and where no man dwelt?	6 E non dissero: - Dov'è il Signore che ci fece salire dalla terra di Egitto e ci condusse attraverso il deserto, per una terra inabitabile e impervia, per una terra riarsa di sete, immagine della morte, per una terra dove uomo non passa e non vi abita anima viva!-
7 And I brought you into a plentiful country, to eat the fruit thereof and the goodness thereof; but when ye entered, ye defiled my land, and made mine heritage an abomination.	7 Io vi introdussi in una terra che è un giardino, affinchè mangiate i suoi frutti e le sue squisitezze; e voi entrati avete profanato la mia terra e reso la mia eredità un'abominazione.
8 The priests said not, Where is the LORD? and they that handle the law knew me not: the pastors also transgressed against me, and the prophets prophesied by Baal, and walked after things that do not profit.	8 I sacerdoti non dissero: - Dov'è il Signore? - E quelli che hanno la legge in mano, mi hanno misconosciuto, i pastori hanno prevaricato contro di me, e i profeti hanno profetato in nome di Baal e si son fatti seguaci degl'idoli.
9 Wherefore I will yet plead with you, saith the LORD, and with your children's children will I plead.	9 Per questo, ancora contenderò in giudizio con voi, dice il Signore, e coi figli vostri farò querela.
10 For pass over the isles of Chittim, and see; and send unto Kedar, and consider diligently, and see if there be such a thing.	10 Passate alle isole dei Cetim e guardate; mandate in Cedar e considerate molto attentamente e vedete, se è avvenuto mai un fatto come questo:
11 Hath a nation changed their gods, which are yet no gods? but my people have changed their glory for that which doth not profit.	11 se qualche gente ha cambiato i suoi dèi, che pure è certo che non sono dèi: e il mio popolo ha cambiato la sua gloria in un idolo!
12 Be astonished, O ye heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid, be ye very desolate, saith the LORD.	12 Stupitevi, o cieli, di questo fatto; molto fortemente rattristatevene, o porte della sua terra! dice il Signore.
13 For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.	13 Due mali ha fatto il mio popolo; hanno abbandonato me, fonte d'acqua viva e si sono scavati delle cisterne, cisterne screpolate che non possono contenere l'acqua.
14 Is Israel a servant? is he a homeborn slave? why is he spoiled?	14 Israele è egli forse uno schiavo? o uno nato in servitù? Perchè dunque è diventato preda altrui?
15 The young lions roared upon him, and yelled, and they made his land waste: his cities are burned without inhabitant.	15 Sopra di lui ruggirono i leoni, alzarono la loro voce, hanno ridotto la sua terra a un deserto, furono incendiate le sue città e non v'è più nessuno che le abita.
16 Also the children of Noph and Tahapanes have broken the crown of thy head.	16 Anche i figli di Memfi e di Tafni ti hanno contaminato fin sopra il capo.
17 Hast thou not procured this unto thyself, in that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, when he led thee by the way?	17 E questo che ti è avvenuto, non è forse perchè hai abbandonato il Signore Dio tuo, mentre egli faceva di tutto per condurti per la buona via?
18 And now what hast thou to do in the way of Egypt, to drink the waters of Sihor? or what hast thou to do in the way of Assyria, to drink the waters of the river?	18 Ed ora che scopo ti conduce sulla via di Egitto, per bere acque torbide? Che cosa cerchi sulla via degli Assiri, per bere le acque del fiume?
19 Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, and that my fear is not in thee, saith the Lord GOD of hosts.	19 La tua malignità ti servirà di lezione e la tua infedeltà te lo insegnerà, t'accorgerai e proverai quanto trista e amara cosa è aver abbandonato il Signore Dio tuo e non conservare più alcun timore di me, dice il Signore Dio degli eserciti.
20 For of old time I have broken thy yoke, and burst thy bands; and thou saidst, I will not transgress; when upon every high hill and under every green tree thou wanderest, playing the harlot.	20 Già da antico hai spezzato il mio giogo e infranti i vincoli miei, e hai detto: - Non servirò! - Giacchè sopra tutti i prominenti colli e sotto tutte le frondose piante ti adagiasti meretrice!
21 Yet I had planted thee a noble vine, wholly a right seed: how then art thou turned into the degenerate plant of a strange vine unto me?	21 Ed io t'aveva piantata come una vigna scelta, tutta di qualità genuina: come dunque sei incattivita, vigna tralignata?
22 For though thou wash thee with nitre, and take thee much soap, yet thine iniquity is marked before me, saith the Lord GOD.	22 Quando anche ti lavassi col nitro e con la potassa più volte, sei sempre macchiata nella tua iniquità agli occhi miei, dice il Signore Dio.
23 How canst thou say, I am not polluted, I have not gone after Baalim? see thy way in the valley, know what thou hast done: thou art a swift dromedary traversing her ways;	23 Come osi dire: - Non mi sono contaminata, non sono andata dietro agli idoli di Baal? - Guarda il tuo procedimento là nella convalle, riconosci ciò che hai fatto, corritrice leggera che spieghi i passi tentando di accoppiarti.
24 A wild ass used to the wilderness, that snuffeth up the wind at her pleasure; in her occasion who can turn her away? all they that seek her will not weary themselves; in her month they shall find her.	24 Onagra assuefatta alla solitudine, nell'ardore delle sue voglie allarga il respiro al fiuto che brama; nessuno la potrà rattenere; tutti quelli che la cercano non avranno fatica, la troveranno nel suo mese.
25 Withhold thy foot from being unshod, and thy throat from thirst: but thou saidst, There is no hope: no; for I have loved strangers, and after them will I go.	25 Risparmia al tuo piede la scalzatura e alla tua gola la sete! E hai detto: - Son disperata, no, nol farò mai; ho amato gli stranieri e dietro a loro voglio andare! -
26 As the thief is ashamed when he is found, so is the house of Israel ashamed; they, their kings, their princes, and their priests, and their prophets,	26 Come resta confuso un ladro quando è sorpreso, così, sono rimasti confusi quelli della casa di Israele, essi e i loro re, i principi, e i sacerdoti e i profeti loro.
27 Saying to a stock, Thou art my father; and to a stone, Thou hast brought me forth: for they have turned their back unto me, and not their face: but in the time of their trouble they will say, Arise, and save us.	27 I quali dicevano ad un legno: - Tu sei il padre mio! - e ad una pietra: - Tu mi hai partorito! - Mi hanno voltato le spalle e non la faccia: e poi al momento della loro afflizione, diranno: - Sorgi e liberaci! -
28 But where are thy gods that thou hast made thee? let them arise, if they can save thee in the time of thy trouble: for according to the number of thy cities are thy gods, O Judah.	28 Dove sono gli dèi tuoi che ti sei fatti? Sorgano e ti liberino nel momento dell'afflizione tua, giacchè i tuoi dèi, o Giuda, sono numerosi e tanti quante sono le tue città.
29 Wherefore will ye plead with me? ye all have transgressed against me, saith the LORD.	29 Perchè volete pigliarvela con me? Se voi mi avete tutti abbandonato? dice il Signore.
30 In vain have I smitten your children; they received no correction: your own sword hath devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.	30 Ho percosso i vostri figli, ma indarno; non hanno accettato la lezione; divorò i vostri profeti la vostra spada come leone devastatore.
31 O generation, see ye the word of the LORD. Have I been a wilderness unto Israel? a land of darkness? wherefore say my people, We are lords; we will come no more unto thee?	31 O voi di questa generazione, udite la parola del Signore! Sarei io forse per Israele diventato una terra che non fa frutti, o una terra che se ne fa non ne matura? Perchè dunque il mio popolo ha detto: - Noi ci ritiriamo, noi non verremo più da te -?
32 Can a maid forget her ornaments, or a bride her attire? yet my people have forgotten me days without number.	32 Potrà mai una fanciulla dimenticarsi dei suoi ornamenti, o della sua fascia pettorale una sposa? Ma il mio popolo è vissuto dimentico di me per tanti giorni che non hanno numero!
33 Why trimmest thou thy way to seek love? therefore hast thou also taught the wicked ones thy ways.	33 A che ti sforzi di comporre il tuo portamento per cattivarti simpatia, e intanto informi il tuo procedere alla scuola delle malvagità?
34 Also in thy skirts is found the blood of the souls of the poor innocents: I have not found it by secret search, but upon all these.	34 Ma nelle falde delle tue vesti si sono trovate le macchie del sangue dei poveri e degli innocenti: li ho trovati uccisi e non nelle fosse. E dopo tutte queste cose che son venuto esponendoti,
35 Yet thou sayest, Because I am innocent, surely his anger shall turn from me. Behold, I will plead with thee, because thou sayest, I have not sinned.	35 ancora tu dici: - Io sono senza peccato e sono innocente si distolga dunque il tuo furore da me! - Ecco io ti chiamerò a giudizio giacchè hai detto: - Non ho peccato! -
36 Why gaddest thou about so much to change thy way? thou also shalt be ashamed of Egypt, as thou wast ashamed of Assyria.	36 Quanto avvilita ti sei, volendo tener il piede in due strade; anche dall'Egitto resterai confusa come fosti confusa da Assur.
37 Yea, thou shalt go forth from him, and thine hands upon thine head: for the LORD hath rejected thy confidences, and thou shalt not prosper in them.	37 Giacchè anche da quella regione uscirai colle mani sul capo, perchè il Signore ha distrutto la tua fiducia e da essa non ti potrai aspettare nulla di buono.
