1 Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying,	1 La parole de Dieu me fut adressée:
2 Go and cry in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the LORD; I remember thee, the kindness of thy youth, the love of thine espousals, when thou wentest after me in the wilderness, in a land that was not sown.	2 Va, crie ceci aux oreilles de Jérusalem: Voici ce que dit Yahvé: Je me rappelle ton affection quand tu étais jeune, ton amour lors de tes fiançailles, lorsque tu me suivais au désert, dans ces terres incultes.
3 Israel was holiness unto the LORD, and the firstfruits of his increase: all that devour him shall offend; evil shall come upon them, saith the LORD.	3 Israël était consacré à Yahvé, c’était le meilleur de sa récolte; ceux qui en mangeaient devaient le payer et le malheur tombait sur eux - parole de Yahvé.
4 Hear ye the word of the LORD, O house of Jacob, and all the families of the house of Israel:	4 Écoutez la parole de Yahvé, maison de Jacob, voici ce que dit Yahvé à toutes les familles de la maison d’Israël:
5 Thus saith the LORD, What iniquity have your fathers found in me, that they are gone far from me, and have walked after vanity, and are become vain?	5 Vos pères m’avaient-ils pris en tort lorsqu’ils se sont éloignés de moi? Ils ont voulu courir après du rien, et eux-mêmes ne sont plus que du rien.
6 Neither said they, Where is the LORD that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, that led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of drought, and of the shadow of death, through a land that no man passed through, and where no man dwelt?	6 Ils n’ont pas demandé: Où est Yahvé qui nous a fait monter du pays d’Égypte, qui nous a conduit par le désert, à travers ces lieux de steppes et de ravins, pays de la sécheresse et de l’ombre mortelle, pays que nul ne traverse, où nul n’a sa demeure?
7 And I brought you into a plentiful country, to eat the fruit thereof and the goodness thereof; but when ye entered, ye defiled my land, and made mine heritage an abomination.	7 Je vous ai fait entrer dans un pays de vergers pour en profiter, pour en manger les fruits. Mais à peine entrés vous avez souillé mon pays, vous avez fait de mon domaine un fumier.
8 The priests said not, Where is the LORD? and they that handle the law knew me not: the pastors also transgressed against me, and the prophets prophesied by Baal, and walked after things that do not profit.	8 Les prêtres n’ont pas dit: ‘Cherchons Yahvé’. Les maîtres de la Loi m’ont ignoré. Les bergers m’ont été infidèles, les prophètes ont prophétisé au nom de Baal, on s’est mis à la traîne de ce qui ne sert à rien.
9 Wherefore I will yet plead with you, saith the LORD, and with your children's children will I plead.	9 C’est pourquoi je maintiens mon procès contre vous et vos fils - parole de Yahvé.
10 For pass over the isles of Chittim, and see; and send unto Kedar, and consider diligently, and see if there be such a thing.	10 Passez aux îles de Kittim et regardez! Envoyez faire une enquête à Kédar et voyez s’il existe quelque chose de pareil:
11 Hath a nation changed their gods, which are yet no gods? but my people have changed their glory for that which doth not profit.	11 Une nation change-t-elle de Dieu? Et pourtant ils ne sont pas Dieu. Mais mon peuple a changé sa Gloire contre ce qui ne sert à rien.
12 Be astonished, O ye heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid, be ye very desolate, saith the LORD.	12 Cieux, soyez étonnés, tremblez d’horreur, soyez bouleversés - parole de Yahvé.
13 For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.	13 Car mon peuple a commis une double faute: ils m’ont abandonné, et j’étais la source d’eau vive; ils se sont creusé des citernes, et ce sont des citernes fissurées qui ne retiennent pas l’eau!
14 Is Israel a servant? is he a homeborn slave? why is he spoiled?	14 Israël est-il un esclave, un fils d’esclave? Pourquoi fait-il partie du butin?
15 The young lions roared upon him, and yelled, and they made his land waste: his cities are burned without inhabitant.	15 Des lions ont rugi contre lui, ils ont élevé la voix, ils ont réduit son pays en ruines et ses villes ont été livrées au feu: plus un habitant!
16 Also the children of Noph and Tahapanes have broken the crown of thy head.	16 Même les gens de Nof et de Tahpanhès t’ont rasé le crâne!
17 Hast thou not procured this unto thyself, in that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, when he led thee by the way?	17 Mais si tout cela t’est arrivé, n’est-ce pas parce que tu as abandonné Yahvé ton Dieu?
18 And now what hast thou to do in the way of Egypt, to drink the waters of Sihor? or what hast thou to do in the way of Assyria, to drink the waters of the river?	18 Pourquoi prends-tu maintenant la route de l’Égypte? Veux-tu boire l’eau du Nil? Si tu prends la route de l’Assyrie, te laissera-t-on boire l’eau du Fleuve?
19 Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, and that my fear is not in thee, saith the Lord GOD of hosts.	19 Non, ta méchanceté appelle le fouet, tes infidélités t’amèneront la punition. Il faut que tu voies et que tu saches combien il est dur et amer d’abandonner Yahvé ton Dieu, et de n’avoir plus de respect envers moi - parole de Yahvé Sabaot.
20 For of old time I have broken thy yoke, and burst thy bands; and thou saidst, I will not transgress; when upon every high hill and under every green tree thou wanderest, playing the harlot.	20 Depuis longtemps tu as brisé ton joug, tu as rompu tes liens, et tu as dis: Je ne te servirai plus! Et puis, comme une prostituée que tu es, tu t’es couchée sur les collines élevées sous tous les arbres verts!
21 Yet I had planted thee a noble vine, wholly a right seed: how then art thou turned into the degenerate plant of a strange vine unto me?	21 Je t’avais plantée comme une vigne excellente où tous les pieds sont de qualité. Comment es-tu devenue pour moi cette vigne de fortune au raisin dégénéré?
22 For though thou wash thee with nitre, and take thee much soap, yet thine iniquity is marked before me, saith the Lord GOD.	22 Même si tu te lavais à la soude, si tu te lessivais à la potasse, la saleté de ta faute resterait devant moi - parole de Yahvé.
23 How canst thou say, I am not polluted, I have not gone after Baalim? see thy way in the valley, know what thou hast done: thou art a swift dromedary traversing her ways;	23 Comment peux-tu dire: “Je ne me suis pas souillée, je n’ai pas couru derrière les Baals?” Regarde tes traces dans la vallée et reconnais ce que tu as fait! Comme une chamelle légère qui croise ses pas en tous sens,
24 A wild ass used to the wilderness, that snuffeth up the wind at her pleasure; in her occasion who can turn her away? all they that seek her will not weary themselves; in her month they shall find her.	24 comme une ânesse habituée au désert, elle respire le vent car sa passion la brûle: qui l’empêchera de satisfaire son désir? Ceux qui la recherchent n’ont pas à se fatiguer, ils la trouvent quand elle est en chaleur.
25 Withhold thy foot from being unshod, and thy throat from thirst: but thou saidst, There is no hope: no; for I have loved strangers, and after them will I go.	25 On te dit: “Tes chaussures vont lâcher, tu vas mourir de soif.” Et tu réponds: “Non, laissez-moi, j’aime les étrangers et je veux les retrouver.”
26 As the thief is ashamed when he is found, so is the house of Israel ashamed; they, their kings, their princes, and their priests, and their prophets,	26 Quelle honte quand on est pris sur le fait! Ce sera pareil pour les gens d’Israël, pour les rois et les chefs, les prêtres et les prophètes.
27 Saying to a stock, Thou art my father; and to a stone, Thou hast brought me forth: for they have turned their back unto me, and not their face: but in the time of their trouble they will say, Arise, and save us.	27 Ils disent au bois: “Tu es mon père”, et à la pierre: “C’est toi qui m’as mis au monde”. Ils m’ont tourné le dos et non pas leur visage, puis au jour du malheur ils crient vers moi: “Allons, délivre-nous!”
28 But where are thy gods that thou hast made thee? let them arise, if they can save thee in the time of thy trouble: for according to the number of thy cities are thy gods, O Judah.	28 Où sont-ils donc les dieux que tu te fabriquais? Qu’ils essayent de te délivrer au jour de ton malheur! Car tes dieux, Juda, sont aussi nombreux que tes villes.
29 Wherefore will ye plead with me? ye all have transgressed against me, saith the LORD.	29 Vous voudriez me faire un procès? Tous, vous m’avez été infidèles,- parole de Yahvé.
30 In vain have I smitten your children; they received no correction: your own sword hath devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.	30 Je n’ai rien gagné à frapper vos fils, vous n’avez pas compris la leçon; l’épée, comme un lion, a dévoré vos prophètes: mais vous n’avez pas pris garde.
31 O generation, see ye the word of the LORD. Have I been a wilderness unto Israel? a land of darkness? wherefore say my people, We are lords; we will come no more unto thee?	31 Écoutez cette parole de Yahvé: n’ai-je pas été pour Israël mieux qu’un désert ou une terre en friche? Pourquoi donc mon peuple dit-il: “Peu importe où nous irons, nous ne reviendrons pas vers toi”?
32 Can a maid forget her ornaments, or a bride her attire? yet my people have forgotten me days without number.	32 Une vierge n’oublie pas ses vêtements de fête, une fiancée n’oublie pas sa ceinture; mais voici bien longtemps que mon peuple m’oublie.
33 Why trimmest thou thy way to seek love? therefore hast thou also taught the wicked ones thy ways.	33 Tu sais tous les chemins de l’amour, tu as même appris le chemin du crime.
34 Also in thy skirts is found the blood of the souls of the poor innocents: I have not found it by secret search, but upon all these.	34 Jusque sur les pans de ta robe on retrouve le sang des innocents, tu ne les avais pas surpris en train de voler!
35 Yet thou sayest, Because I am innocent, surely his anger shall turn from me. Behold, I will plead with thee, because thou sayest, I have not sinned.	35 Mais tu fais l’innocente: “Va-t-il enfin détourner de moi sa colère?” Je te reprends si tu dis: “Je n’ai pas péché.”
36 Why gaddest thou about so much to change thy way? thou also shalt be ashamed of Egypt, as thou wast ashamed of Assyria.	36 Est-ce une solution de chercher ailleurs? L’Assyrie te décevra comme l’Égypte t’a déçue.
37 Yea, thou shalt go forth from him, and thine hands upon thine head: for the LORD hath rejected thy confidences, and thou shalt not prosper in them.	37 De là aussi tu sortiras les mains sur la tête. Car Yahvé ne veut pas de ceux en qui tu crois; et avec eux tu n’arriveras à rien!
