Isaiah 64

1 Oh that thou wouldest rend the heavens, that thou wouldest come down, that the mountains might flow down at thy presence,	1 wie Feuer Reisig in Brand setzt und Feuer das Wasser in Sieden versetzt –, um deinen Namen deinen Widersachern kundzutun, damit die Völker vor dir erzitterten,
2 As when the melting fire burneth, the fire causeth the waters to boil, to make thy name known to thine adversaries, that the nations may tremble at thy presence!	2 indem du furchtbare Taten vollführtest, die unsere Erwartung überstiegen! Ja, führest du herab, so daß die Berge vor dir ins Wanken gerieten!
3 When thou didst terrible things which we looked not for, thou camest down, the mountains flowed down at thy presence.	3 Hat man doch von alters her nicht gehört noch vernommen, hat doch kein Auge es je gesehen, daß ein Gott außer dir für einen auf ihn Harrenden Taten vollbringt.
4 For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him.	4 Du kommst dem entgegen, der Freude daran hat, Gerechtigkeit zu üben, denen, die auf deinen Wegen deiner gedenken. Doch ach, du bist in Zorn geraten, denn wir haben gesündigt durch unsere Untreue allezeit und unsern Abfall.
5 Thou meetest him that rejoiceth and worketh righteousness, those that remember thee in thy ways: behold, thou art wroth; for we have sinned: in those is continuance, and we shall be saved.	5 So sind wir denn allesamt einem Unreinen gleich geworden und alle unsere Gerechtigkeitserweise (oder: Tugenden) sind wie ein besudeltes Gewand; wir sind allesamt verwelkt (oder: abgefallen) wie Laub, und unsere Sünden haben uns mit sich fortgerissen wie der Wind;
6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.	6 und niemand ist da, der deinen Namen noch anruft, niemand, der sich aufrafft, um an dir festzuhalten; denn du hast dein Angesicht vor uns verborgen und läßt uns unter dem Druck unserer Sünden vergehen.
7 And there is none that calleth upon thy name, that stirreth up himself to take hold of thee: for thou hast hid thy face from us, and hast consumed us, because of our iniquities.	7 Nun aber, HERR – du bist ja unser Vater; wir sind der Ton, und du bist unser Bildner, und das Werk deiner Hände sind wir alle –:
8 But now, O LORD, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.	8 Zürne nicht unversöhnlich fort, o HERR, und gedenke nicht ewiglich unserer Schuld! Ach, blicke doch her: dein Volk sind wir alle!
9 Be not wroth very sore, O LORD, neither remember iniquity for ever: behold, see, we beseech thee, we are all thy people.	9 Deine heiligen Städte sind zur Wüste geworden: Zion ist zur Wüste geworden, Jerusalem zur Trümmerstätte!
10 Thy holy cities are a wilderness, Zion is a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation.	10 Unser heiliger und herrlicher Tempel, wo unsere Väter dir lobgesungen haben, ist in Flammen aufgegangen, und alle unsere Lieblingsstätten liegen in Trümmern!
11 Our holy and our beautiful house, where our fathers praised thee, is burned up with fire: and all our pleasant things are laid waste.	11 Willst du trotz alledem an dich halten, HERR? Willst du schweigen und uns erniedrigen bis zur Vernichtung?
12 Wilt thou refrain thyself for these things, O LORD? wilt thou hold thy peace, and afflict us very sore?
