Isaiah 10

1 Woe unto them that decree unrighteous decrees, and that write grievousness which they have prescribed;	1 Guai a coloro che fanno leggi inique, a coloro che firmano sentenze ingiuste,
2 To turn aside the needy from judgment, and to take away the right from the poor of my people, that widows may be their prey, and that they may rob the fatherless!	2 per opprimere in tribunale i poveri e togliere i diritti agli umili del mio popolo, per depredare le vedove e lasciar senza nulla gli orfani.
3 And what will ye do in the day of visitation, and in the desolation which shall come from far? to whom will ye flee for help? and where will ye leave your glory?	3 Che farete voi nel giorno della visita, della desolazione che da lontano già viene? A chi ricorrerete per aiuto? A chi affiderete il vostro onore,
4 Without me they shall bow down under the prisoners, and they shall fall under the slain. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.	4 per non star curvi tra gli schiavi e cadere tra i morti? E dopo tutto questo il suo furore non è cessato, e la sua mano resta stesa.
5 O Assyrian, the rod of mine anger, and the staff in their hand is mine indignation.	5 Guai ad Assur, verga della mia collera! Egli è un bastone, lo strumento dell'ira mia.
6 I will send him against an hypocritical nation, and against the people of my wrath will I give him a charge, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.	6 Io lo manderò contro una nazione finta, gli darò i miei ordini contro il popolo del mio sdegno, di predarlo, di saccheggiarlo, di ridurlo ad esser calpestato come il fango delle piazze.
7 Howbeit he meaneth not so, neither doth his heart think so; but it is in his heart to destroy and cut off nations not a few.	7 Ma egli non la penserà così, non cosi l'intenderà il suo cuore: egli non pensa che a distruggere, a sterminar nazioni e non poche;
8 For he saith, Are not my princes altogether kings?	8 e si metterà a dire: « I miei principi non son tutti re?
9 Is not Calno as Carchemish? is not Hamath as Arpad? is not Samaria as Damascus?	9 Non ho fatto a Calano come a Carcamis, a Emat come a Arfad, a Samaria come a Damasco?
10 As my hand hath found the kingdoms of the idols, and whose graven images did excel them of Jerusalem and of Samaria;	10 Come ho preso i regni degli idoli, cosi i simulacri di quei di Gerusalemme e di Samaria.
11 Shall I not, as I have done unto Samaria and her idols, so do to Jerusalem and her idols?	11 Come ho fatto a Samaria e ai suoi idoli non potrò farlo a Gerusalemme e ai suoi simulacri? »
12 Wherefore it shall come to pass, that when the Lord hath performed his whole work upon mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will punish the fruit of the stout heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his high looks.	12 Ma ecco quanto avverrà: Quando il Signore avrà compita tutta l'opera sua sul monte di Sion e a Gerusalemme, visiterò i frutti del superbo cuore del re di Assiria e l'arroganza dei suoi occhi altieri.
13 For he saith, By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom; for I am prudent: and I have removed the bounds of the people, and have robbed their treasures, and I have put down the inhabitants like a valiant man:	13 Egli infatti ha detto: « Ho fatto colla forza della mia mano, colla mia sapienza ho compreso: ho cangiati i confini dei popoli, ho spogliati i loro principi, e, come potente, ho deposti gli assisi sul trono.
14 And my hand hath found as a nest the riches of the people: and as one gathereth eggs that are left, have I gathered all the earth; and there was none that moved the wing, or opened the mouth, or peeped.	14 E la mia mano ha trovato, come un nido, la possanza dei popoli, e, come si raccolgono le uova abbandonate, così io ho riunita tutta quanta la terra, senza che nessuno movesse penna o aprisse bocca a garrire ».
15 Shall the axe boast itself against him that heweth therewith? or shall the saw magnify itself against him that shaketh it? as if the rod should shake itself against them that lift it up, or as if the staff should lift up itself, as if it were no wood.	15 Forse si potrà gloriare la scure contro chi l'usa per tagliare? O insuperbirà la sega contro chi la muove? Sarebbe come se la verga s'insuperbisse contro chi l'alza e montasse in superbia il bastone, che non è che legno.
16 Therefore shall the Lord, the Lord of hosts, send among his fat ones leanness; and under his glory he shall kindle a burning like the burning of a fire.	16 Per questo il Dominatore, il Signore degli eserciti, manderà il deperimento ai suoi pingui, e sotto la sua gloria divamperà un fuoco, come le fiamme di un incendio.
17 And the light of Israel shall be for a fire, and his Holy One for a flame: and it shall burn and devour his thorns and his briers in one day;	17 E la luce d'Israele sarà in quel fuoco, il Santo d'Israele in quelle fiamme, e divamperà, e divorerà le spine (di Assur) e gli sterpi in un sol giorno.
18 And shall consume the glory of his forest, and of his fruitful field, both soul and body: and they shall be as when a standardbearer fainteth.	18 E la gloria della sua foresta e del suo Carmelo sarà consumata dall'anima al corpo, ed egli fuggirà spaventato.
19 And the rest of the trees of his forest shall be few, that a child may write them.	19 E le piante restate nella sua foresta, essendo poche, saran contate, e un fanciullo le potrà registrare.
20 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the remnant of Israel, and such as are escaped of the house of Jacob, shall no more again stay upon him that smote them; but shall stay upon the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, in truth.	20 E in quel giorno avverrà che il resto d'Israele e gli scampati della casa di Giacobbe non continueranno ad appoggiarsi sopra chi li percuote, ma si appoggeranno al Signore, al Santo d'Israele, con sincerità.
21 The remnant shall return, even the remnant of Jacob, unto the mighty God.	21 Gli avanzi, gli avanzi, dico, di Giacobbe, si convertiranno al Dio forte.
22 For though thy people Israel be as the sand of the sea, yet a remnant of them shall return: the consumption decreed shall overflow with righteousness.	22 Ed anche quando il tuo popolo, o Israele, fosse come la rena del mare, i suoi avanzi si convertiranno, lo sterminio decretato farà inondare la giustizia.
23 For the Lord GOD of hosts shall make a consumption, even determined, in the midst of all the land.	23 Or lo sterminio decretato il Signore Dio degli eserciti lo compirà in tutta la terra.
24 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD of hosts, O my people that dwellest in Zion, be not afraid of the Assyrian: he shall smite thee with a rod, and shall lift up his staff against thee, after the manner of Egypt.	24 Per questo, ecco quanto dice il Signore Dio degli eserciti: « Non aver paura di Assur, popolo mio che abiti in Sion: egli ti percuoterà colla verga, alzerà sopra di te il suo bastone come l'Egitto.
25 For yet a very little while, and the indignation shall cease, and mine anger in their destruction.	25 Ma ancora un poco, un momento, e cesserà lo sdegno, e il mio furore si scaricherà contro le loro scelleratezze ».
26 And the LORD of hosts shall stir up a scourge for him according to the slaughter of Midian at the rock of Oreb: and as his rod was upon the sea, so shall he lift it up after the manner of Egypt.	26 E il Signore degli eserciti alzerà contro l'Assiro il flagello, come quando flagellò Madian al masso di Oreb, come alzò la sua verga sopra il mare, l'alzerà sull'esempio dell'Egitto.
27 And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.	27 E in quel giorno sarà tolto dalle tue spalle il peso di Assur, il suo giogo dal tuo collo, e il giogo marcirà per il grasso.
28 He is come to Aiath, he is passed to Migron; at Michmash he hath laid up his carriages:	28 Egli andrà ad Aiat, passerà a Magron, lascerà i suoi bagagli a Macmas.
29 They are gone over the passage: they have taken up their lodging at Geba; Ramah is afraid; Gibeah of Saul is fled.	29 Passaron di corsa Gabaa nostra stazione; Rama ne fu spaventata, Gabaa di Saul si diede alla fuga.
30 Lift up thy voice, O daughter of Gallim: cause it to be heard unto Laish, O poor Anathoth.	30 Alza le strida, o figlia di Gallim, stai attenta, o Laisa. Povera Anatot!
31 Madmenah is removed; the inhabitants of Gebim gather themselves to flee.	31 Medemena è andata; abitanti di Gabin, fatevi coraggio:
32 As yet shall he remain at Nob that day: he shall shake his hand against the mount of the daughter of Zion, the hill of Jerusalem.	32 è ancora giorno per riposare a Nobe. Egli agiterà la sua mano contro la montagna della figlia di Sion, contro la collina di Gerusalemme.
33 Behold, the Lord, the LORD of hosts, shall lop the bough with terror: and the high ones of stature shall be hewn down, and the haughty shall be humbled.	33 Ma ecco che il Dominatore, il Signore degli eserciti, spezzerà con tenibile colpo il vaso di terra: le cime più alte saran tagliate, i grandi saranno umiliati;
34 And he shall cut down the thickets of the forest with iron, and Lebanon shall fall by a mighty one.	34 il folto della foresta sarà abbattuto col ferro, e il Libano cadrà eoi suoi alti (cedri).
