Isaiah 10

1 Woe unto them that decree unrighteous decrees, and that write grievousness which they have prescribed;	1 - Guai a coloro che pronunciano sentenze inique, e scrivono scritture ingiuste.
2 To turn aside the needy from judgment, and to take away the right from the poor of my people, that widows may be their prey, and that they may rob the fatherless!	2 opprimendo in giudizio i deboli, violando il diritto dei poveri del mio popolo, affinchè siano le vedove loro preda, e per spogliare i pupilli.
3 And what will ye do in the day of visitation, and in the desolation which shall come from far? to whom will ye flee for help? and where will ye leave your glory?	3 Che farete nel giorno della visita e della calamità che verrà di lontano? A chi vi rifuggerete per aiuto, e dove abbandonerete la vostra gloria,
4 Without me they shall bow down under the prisoners, and they shall fall under the slain. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.	4 per non piegare sotto la catena e soccombere tra gli uccisi? Per tutto questo non s'è rimesso dall'ira sua, ma la sua mano è ancora stesa.
5 O Assyrian, the rod of mine anger, and the staff in their hand is mine indignation.	5 Guai ad Assur! egli è la verga del mio furore, egli è il bastone; in mano loro la mia collera.
6 I will send him against an hypocritical nation, and against the people of my wrath will I give him a charge, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.	6 Io lo manderò alla nazione perfida e contro il popolo della mia indignazione; e gli ordinerò di saccheggiare e di depredare e di calpestarlo come il fango delle piazze.
7 Howbeit he meaneth not so, neither doth his heart think so; but it is in his heart to destroy and cut off nations not a few.	7 Ma egli non ragionerà così e il suo cuore non penserà a questo modo; anzi avrà in cuore di distruggere e di sterminare non poche nazioni.
8 For he saith, Are not my princes altogether kings?	8 Infatti egli dirà:
9 Is not Calno as Carchemish? is not Hamath as Arpad? is not Samaria as Damascus?	9 «I miei principi non sono essi altrettanti re? Non è stato di Calano come di Carchemis, e come di Arfad, così di Emat? Quel che toccò a Damasco non toccò a Samaria?
10 As my hand hath found the kingdoms of the idols, and whose graven images did excel them of Jerusalem and of Samaria;	10 Come la mia mano ha conquistato i regni dell'idolatria, così sarà anche dei simulacri di quei di Gerusalemme e di Samaria.
11 Shall I not, as I have done unto Samaria and her idols, so do to Jerusalem and her idols?	11 Come ho fatto a Samaria e ai suoi idoli, non farò io a Gerusalemme e ai suoi simulacri?».
12 Wherefore it shall come to pass, that when the Lord hath performed his whole work upon mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will punish the fruit of the stout heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his high looks.	12 Ma avverrà che quando il Signore avrà compiuto interamente l'opera sua nel monte Sion e in Gerusalemme, allora [dice egli] farò la mia visita sul frutto dell'altiero cuore del re di Assur, e sulla gloria altezzosa de' suoi occhi.
13 For he saith, By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom; for I am prudent: and I have removed the bounds of the people, and have robbed their treasures, and I have put down the inhabitants like a valiant man:	13 Perchè ha detto: «Io ho operato in forza della mia mano e colla sapienza mia ho avuto accorgimento, e ho rimosso le frontiere dei popoli, ho spodestato i loro principi, e come un despota, ho deposto coloro che sedevano in alto.
14 And my hand hath found as a nest the riches of the people: and as one gathereth eggs that are left, have I gathered all the earth; and there was none that moved the wing, or opened the mouth, or peeped.	14 E la mia mano, come farebbe d'un nido, ha ritrovato la potenza dei popoli, e come si raccolgono le uova abbandonate, io ho raccolto tutta la terra, e non fu chi battesse ala, o aprisse bocca, o pigolasse.
15 Shall the axe boast itself against him that heweth therewith? or shall the saw magnify itself against him that shaketh it? as if the rod should shake itself against them that lift it up, or as if the staff should lift up itself, as if it were no wood.	15 Come si glorierà la scure contro colui che con essa taglia? O si leverà la sega contro colui che la tira? Come se il bastone si alzasse contro colui che lo alza; e alzandosi il bastone, esso non fosse pur sempre legno».
16 Therefore shall the Lord, the Lord of hosts, send among his fat ones leanness; and under his glory he shall kindle a burning like the burning of a fire.	16 Per questo il dominatore, il Signore degli eserciti, manderà nelle sue impinguate carni l'estenuazione, e sotto alla sua gloria s'accenderà un incendio, come un incendio di fuoco.
17 And the light of Israel shall be for a fire, and his Holy One for a flame: and it shall burn and devour his thorns and his briers in one day;	17 E il lume d'Israele sarà fuoco, e il suo Santo sarà fiamma, e bruceranno e si consumeranno le sue spine e i suoi pruni in un sol giorno.
18 And shall consume the glory of his forest, and of his fruitful field, both soul and body: and they shall be as when a standardbearer fainteth.	18 E la magnificenza del suo bosco e del suo giardino sarà consumata dallo spirito fino alla carne, ed egli andrà esterrefatto e fuggiasco.
19 And the rest of the trees of his forest shall be few, that a child may write them.	19 E il rimanente delle piante del suo bosco saranno in numero così esiguo, che le potrà scrivere un fanciullo.
20 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the remnant of Israel, and such as are escaped of the house of Jacob, shall no more again stay upon him that smote them; but shall stay upon the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, in truth.	20 E avverrà in quel giorno, che un resto d'Israele e la parte della casa di Giacobbe scampata non continueranno più ad appoggiarsi su colui che li percuote, ma si appoggeranno sul Signore, sul Santo d'Israele sinceramente.
21 The remnant shall return, even the remnant of Jacob, unto the mighty God.	21 Un resto si convertirà; un resto, dico, di Giacobbe all'Iddio forte.
22 For though thy people Israel be as the sand of the sea, yet a remnant of them shall return: the consumption decreed shall overflow with righteousness.	22 Perchè se anche il tuo popolo, o Israele, fosse come le sabbie del mare, avanzi di esso si convertiranno: una definitiva recisione farà rifluire la giustizia.
23 For the Lord GOD of hosts shall make a consumption, even determined, in the midst of all the land.	23 Sì, una recisione che sarà definitiva farà il Signore Dio degli eserciti in mezzo alla terra.
24 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD of hosts, O my people that dwellest in Zion, be not afraid of the Assyrian: he shall smite thee with a rod, and shall lift up his staff against thee, after the manner of Egypt.	24 Per questo così dice il Signore Dio degli eserciti: «Non temere di Assur, o mio popolo, che abiti in Sion; ti percuoterà colla verga e alzerà il bastone su di te sull'esempio dell'Egitto.
25 For yet a very little while, and the indignation shall cease, and mine anger in their destruction.	25 Perchè tra poco e tra breve, si compirà l'opera della mia indignazione e della mia collera sopra le loro scelleraggini».
26 And the LORD of hosts shall stir up a scourge for him according to the slaughter of Midian at the rock of Oreb: and as his rod was upon the sea, so shall he lift it up after the manner of Egypt.	26 E il Signore degli eserciti scuoterà su di lui la sferza come nella piaga di Madian alla pietra Horeb, e la sua verga sopra il mare, e l'alzerà sull'esempio dell'Egitto.
27 And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.	27 E avverrà in quel giorno che sarà tolto il peso di lui dalle tue spalle, e il suo giogo dal tuo collo, e il giogo diventerà morbido come per la presenza dell'olio.
28 He is come to Aiath, he is passed to Migron; at Michmash he hath laid up his carriages:	28 Verrà in Aiat, passerà in Magron, presso Macmas, porrà la riserva dei suoi bagagli.
29 They are gone over the passage: they have taken up their lodging at Geba; Ramah is afraid; Gibeah of Saul is fled.	29 Passarono di corsa Gabaa nostra stazione; Rama è sbigottita, Gabaa di Saul è fuggita.
30 Lift up thy voice, O daughter of Gallim: cause it to be heard unto Laish, O poor Anathoth.	30 Stridi colla tua voce, o figlia di Gallim! sta' in ascolto, o Laisa; poveretta te, o Anatot!
31 Madmenah is removed; the inhabitants of Gebim gather themselves to flee.	31 Mademena è scappata, mettetevi al sicuro, o abitanti di Gabim.
32 As yet shall he remain at Nob that day: he shall shake his hand against the mount of the daughter of Zion, the hill of Jerusalem.	32 È giorno ancora per fermarsi in Nobe: scuoterà la sua mano contro la figlia di Sion, contro il colle di Gerusalemme.
33 Behold, the Lord, the LORD of hosts, shall lop the bough with terror: and the high ones of stature shall be hewn down, and the haughty shall be humbled.	33 Ecco il dominatore, il Signore degli eserciti, spezzerà con tremendo fragore il vaso; e gli alti fusti saranno tagliati, e gli elevati saranno atterrati.
34 And he shall cut down the thickets of the forest with iron, and Lebanon shall fall by a mighty one.	34 E il folto del bosco sarà messo a soqquadro col ferro, e il Libano coi suoi sublimi cedri cadrà.
