1 Woe unto them that decree unrighteous decrees, and that write grievousness which they have prescribed;	1 Malheur à ceux qui font des lois injustes et n’écrivent que pour instituer l’oppression.
2 To turn aside the needy from judgment, and to take away the right from the poor of my people, that widows may be their prey, and that they may rob the fatherless!	2 Ils privent les malheureux de leur dû et jouent avec les droits des pauvres de mon peuple. Les veuves deviennent leur proie, ils dépouillent l’orphelin.
3 And what will ye do in the day of visitation, and in the desolation which shall come from far? to whom will ye flee for help? and where will ye leave your glory?	3 Que ferez-vous au jour du règlement de comptes? Où fuirez-vous pour chercher du secours lorsque viendra la ruine imprévue? Où déposerez-vous vos trésors?
4 Without me they shall bow down under the prisoners, and they shall fall under the slain. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.	4 Rien à faire! Vous serez chargés de chaînes, ou vous tomberez parmi les morts. Car la colère de Yahvé n’est toujours pas satisfaite, sa main menace encore!
5 O Assyrian, the rod of mine anger, and the staff in their hand is mine indignation.	5 Malheur à l’Assyrie, le fouet de ma colère, le bâton que je lève dans ma fureur,
6 I will send him against an hypocritical nation, and against the people of my wrath will I give him a charge, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.	6 que je dresse contre une nation hypocrite, que j’envoie contre le peuple qui me met en colère pour en ramasser les dépouilles et emporter tout le butin, pour le piétiner comme on piétine la terre des rues.
7 Howbeit he meaneth not so, neither doth his heart think so; but it is in his heart to destroy and cut off nations not a few.	7 Mais le roi d’Assyrie n’entre pas dans ce projet, il ne voit pas ainsi les choses, Lui n’a qu’une idée en tête: détruire, supprimer de nombreuses nations.
8 For he saith, Are not my princes altogether kings?	8 Il se dit: “Tous mes chefs ne valent-ils pas des rois?
9 Is not Calno as Carchemish? is not Hamath as Arpad? is not Samaria as Damascus?	9 N’ai-je pas eu Kalno après Karkémich, Samarie après Damas, Hamat après Arpad?
10 As my hand hath found the kingdoms of the idols, and whose graven images did excel them of Jerusalem and of Samaria;	10 J’ai bien su frapper les royaumes des idoles, plus riches en statues que Jérusalem et Samarie.
11 Shall I not, as I have done unto Samaria and her idols, so do to Jerusalem and her idols?	11 Ce que j’ai fait à Samarie et ses idoles, je le ferai pour Jérusalem et ses objets sacrés.”
12 Wherefore it shall come to pass, that when the Lord hath performed his whole work upon mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will punish the fruit of the stout heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his high looks.	12 Mais voilà, quand le Seigneur aura terminé son œuvre sur la montagne de Sion, à Jérusalem, il s’en prendra à l’insolence du roi d’Assyrie qui est si fier de ses exploits:
13 For he saith, By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom; for I am prudent: and I have removed the bounds of the people, and have robbed their treasures, and I have put down the inhabitants like a valiant man:	13 “Tout cela, dit-il, je l’ai fait parce que je suis fort, parce que je suis sage et intelligent! J’ai déplacé les frontières des peuples, j’ai pillé leurs richesses, j’ai ruiné des villes habitées.
14 And my hand hath found as a nest the riches of the people: and as one gathereth eggs that are left, have I gathered all the earth; and there was none that moved the wing, or opened the mouth, or peeped.	14 De ma main j’ai pris les trésors des peuples, comme on ramasse dans un nid des œufs abandonnés, et pas un n’a battu de l’aile, aucun n’a ouvert le bec ou poussé un cri.”
15 Shall the axe boast itself against him that heweth therewith? or shall the saw magnify itself against him that shaketh it? as if the rod should shake itself against them that lift it up, or as if the staff should lift up itself, as if it were no wood.	15 Qui doit se vanter, la hache ou celui qui s’en sert? Qui doit être fier, la scie ou celui qui travaille avec? Est-ce le fouet qui met en mouvement celui qui le lève? Entre le bâton et celui qui n’est pas de bois, qui soulève l’autre?
16 Therefore shall the Lord, the Lord of hosts, send among his fat ones leanness; and under his glory he shall kindle a burning like the burning of a fire.	16 Aussi le Seigneur, Yahvé Sabaot, est près de frapper et de consumer les puissants d’Assyrie. Le feu va prendre sous leur faste, et ce sera un brasier.
17 And the light of Israel shall be for a fire, and his Holy One for a flame: and it shall burn and devour his thorns and his briers in one day;	17 Oui, la Lumière d’Israël sera un feu, et son Saint, une flamme. En un seul jour elle va brûler et dévorer, ses ronces et ses épines.
18 And shall consume the glory of his forest, and of his fruitful field, both soul and body: and they shall be as when a standardbearer fainteth.	18 La gloire de sa forêt et ses arbres fruitiers se défait, disparaît, corps et âme; elle perd le souffle et meurt.
19 And the rest of the trees of his forest shall be few, that a child may write them.	19 Il reste si peu d’arbres dans la forêt qu’un enfant pourrait les compter.
20 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the remnant of Israel, and such as are escaped of the house of Jacob, shall no more again stay upon him that smote them; but shall stay upon the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, in truth.	20 En ces jours-là le reste d’Israël, les survivants de la maison de Jacob, cesseront de s’appuyer sur celui qui les bat; ils seront fidèles et ils s’appuieront sur Yahvé, le Saint d’Israël.
21 The remnant shall return, even the remnant of Jacob, unto the mighty God.	21 Un reste reviendra vers le Dieu fort, le reste de Jacob.
22 For though thy people Israel be as the sand of the sea, yet a remnant of them shall return: the consumption decreed shall overflow with righteousness.	22 Oui, Israël! Même si ton peuple était nombreux comme le sable du bord des mers, seul un reste reviendrait. La ruine est décidée, justice entière sera faite.
23 For the Lord GOD of hosts shall make a consumption, even determined, in the midst of all the land.	23 Le Seigneur fera dans tout le pays extermination et nettoyage.
24 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD of hosts, O my people that dwellest in Zion, be not afraid of the Assyrian: he shall smite thee with a rod, and shall lift up his staff against thee, after the manner of Egypt.	24 C’est pourquoi, voici ce que dit le Seigneur, Yahvé Sabaot: “Ô mon peuple, toi qui habites en Sion, ne tremble pas devant l’Assyrie qui te frappe de son bâton et use avec toi de la trique, comme faisaient les Égyptiens.
25 For yet a very little while, and the indignation shall cease, and mine anger in their destruction.	25 Car dans bien peu de temps ma colère s’apaisera et c’est lui que ma fureur détruira.
26 And the LORD of hosts shall stir up a scourge for him according to the slaughter of Midian at the rock of Oreb: and as his rod was upon the sea, so shall he lift it up after the manner of Egypt.	26 Yahvé Sabaot lèvera le fouet contre lui comme il a frappé Madian au Rocher d’Oreb, comme il a frappé l’Égypte avec le bâton qu’il tenait levé sur la mer.
27 And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.	27 Alors, en ce jour-là, le fardeau tombera de ton épaule, son joug tombera de ton cou, et l’abondance remplacera l’oppression.
28 He is come to Aiath, he is passed to Migron; at Michmash he hath laid up his carriages:	28 L’Assyrien est monté contre Ayat, il est passé à Migron, il a laissé ses bagages à Mikmas.
29 They are gone over the passage: they have taken up their lodging at Geba; Ramah is afraid; Gibeah of Saul is fled.	29 Il a traversé le défilé, puis il a dit: “Guéba sera le point d’étape.” Rama a tremblé, Guibéa de Saül s’est enfuie.
30 Lift up thy voice, O daughter of Gallim: cause it to be heard unto Laish, O poor Anathoth.	30 Fais-toi entendre Bat-Gallim! Fais attention Laïcha! Réponds-lui Anatot!
31 Madmenah is removed; the inhabitants of Gebim gather themselves to flee.	31 Madména s’est enfuie; les habitants de Guébim se sont cachés.
32 As yet shall he remain at Nob that day: he shall shake his hand against the mount of the daughter of Zion, the hill of Jerusalem.	32 Aujourd’hui il fera halte à Nob et déjà il tend la main vers la montagne de la fille de Sion, vers la colline de Jérusalem.
33 Behold, the Lord, the LORD of hosts, shall lop the bough with terror: and the high ones of stature shall be hewn down, and the haughty shall be humbled.	33 Mais voici que le Seigneur, Yahvé Sabaot, a pris la hache, il abat les branches; ceux qui se dressent haut sont coupés, les orgueilleux sont rabaissés.
34 And he shall cut down the thickets of the forest with iron, and Lebanon shall fall by a mighty one.	34 Sa lame tranche les taillis de la forêt et le Liban s’affaisse avec sa gloire.
