1 Blessed is the man that hath a virtuous wife, for the number of his days shall be double.	1 Heureux le mari d’une bonne épouse: le nombre de ses jours en sera doublé!
2 A virtuous woman rejoiceth her husband, and he shall fulfil the years of his life in peace.	2 Une femme vaillante fait la joie de son mari, il connaîtra la paix tous les jours de sa vie.
3 A good wife is a good portion, which shall be given in the portion of them that fear the Lord.	3 Une bonne épouse est le gros lot, elle reviendra à celui qui craint le Seigneur.
4 Whether a man be rich or poor, if he have a good heart toward the Lord, he shall at all times rejoice with a cheerful countenance.	4 Riche ou pauvre, il aura le cœur content; à tout moment l’on verra son bonheur sur son visage.
5 There be three things that mine heart feareth; and for the fourth I was sore afraid: the slander of a city, the gathering together of an unruly multitude, and a false accusation: all these are worse than death.	5 Il y a trois choses que je redoute, et une quatrième qui m’effraie: une calomnie répandue dans l’entourage, une foule en révolte et une accusation fausse; tout cela est pire que la mort.
6 But a grief of heart and sorrow is a woman that is jealous over another woman, and a scourge of the tongue which communicateth with all.	6 Mais la femme jalouse d’une autre, c’est un deuil, une douleur intime; sa langue est un fouet qui n’épargne personne.
7 An evil wife is a yoke shaken to and fro: he that hath hold of her is as though he held a scorpion.	7 La femme méchante est un joug à bœufs mal amarré: y mettre la main est aussi risqué que saisir un scorpion.
8 A drunken woman and a gadder abroad causeth great anger, and she will not cover her own shame.	8 C’est un grand scandale qu’une femme qui boit, elle ne pourra pas remédier à son discrédit.
9 The whoredom of a woman may be known in her haughty looks and eyelids.	9 Une femme sans pudeur se reconnaît à ses coups d’œil, à ses regards effrontés.
10 If thy daughter be shameless, keep her in straitly, lest she abuse herself through overmuch liberty.	10 Tiens en laisse une fille hardie, elle profiterait de ta complaisance.
11 Watch over an impudent eye: and marvel not if she trespass against thee.	11 Garde-toi de suivre la femme séduisante; ne te fais pas d’illusions: elle veut t’avoir.
12 She will open her mouth, as a thirsty traveller when he hath found a fountain, and drink of every water near her: by every hedge will she sit down, and open her quiver against every arrow.	12 Le voyageur assoiffé ouvre la bouche à toute eau qui se présente: elle aussi s’assied face à n’importe quel piquet, à toute flèche elle ouvre son carquois.
13 The grace of a wife delighteth her husband, and her discretion will fatten his bones.	13 La grâce d’une femme réjouit son mari, mais son savoir faire le réconforte jusqu’à la moelle des os.
14 A silent and loving woman is a gift of the Lord; and there is nothing so much worth as a mind well instructed.	14 Une femme qui sait se taire est un don du Seigneur, rien n’est comparable à celle qui est bien éduquée.
15 A shamefaced and faithful woman is a double grace, and her continent mind cannot be valued.	15 La femme pudique est doublement charmante, celle qui est chaste est un trésor inestimable.
16 As the sun when it ariseth in the high heaven; so is the beauty of a good wife in the ordering of her house.	16 Comme le soleil levant sur les montagnes du Seigneur, tel est le charme d’une bonne épouse dans une maison bien tenue.
17 As the clear light is upon the holy candlestick; so is the beauty of the face in ripe age.	17 Comme la lampe qui brille sur le lampadaire sacré, tel est un beau visage sur un corps harmonieux.
18 As the golden pillars are upon the sockets of silver; so are the fair feet with a constant heart.	18 Comme des colonnes d’or sur un socle d’argent, telles sont de belles jambes sur des talons bien plantés.
19 My son, keep the flower of thine age sound; and give not thy strength to strangers.	19 NO TEXT
20 When thou hast gotten a fruitful possession through all the field, sow it with thine own seed, trusting in the goodness of thy stock.	20 NO TEXT
21 So thy race which thou leavest shall be magnified, having the confidence of their good descent.	21 NO TEXT
22 An harlot shall be accounted as spittle; but a married woman is a tower against death to her husband.	22 NO TEXT
23 A wicked woman is given as a portion to a wicked man: but a godly woman is given to him that feareth the Lord.	23 NO TEXT
24 A dishonest woman contemneth shame: but an honest woman will reverence her husband.	24 NO TEXT
25 A shameless woman shall be counted as a dog; but she that is shamefaced will fear the Lord.	25 NO TEXT
26 A woman that honoureth her husband shall be judged wise of all; but she that dishonoureth him in her pride shall be counted ungodly of all.	26 NO TEXT
27 A loud crying woman and a scold shall be sought out to drive away the enemies.	27 NO TEXT
28 There be two things that grieve my heart; and the third maketh me angry: a man of war that suffereth poverty; and men of understanding that are not set by; and one that returneth from righteousness to sin; the Lord prepareth such an one for the sword.	28 Pour deux choses je m’afflige, pour une troisième la colère me prend: un homme de guerre réduit à la misère, des gens sensés que l’on méprise, celui enfin qui passe d’une vie droite au péché; le Seigneur le destine à périr par l’épée.
29 A merchant shall hardly keep himself from doing wrong; and an huckster shall not be freed from sin.	29 Il est difficile à un marchand de ne pas chercher à avoir les autres; un commerçant ne se préservera pas du péché.
