KING JAMES BIBLELe Sainte Bible Vigouroux
And the LORD said unto Moses, Depart, and go up hence, thou and the people which thou hast brought up out of the land of Egypt, unto the land which I sware unto Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, Unto thy seed will I give it:1 Le Seigneur parla ensuite à Moïse, et lui dit : Va, sors (monte) de ce lieu, toi et ton peuple que tu as tiré de l'Egypte, et va en la terre que j'ai promise avec serment à Abraham, à Isaac et à Jacob, en disant : Je donnerai cette terre à ta race (postérité) ;
And I will send an angel before thee; and I will drive out the Canaanite, the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite:2 et j'enverrai un ange pour te servir de précurseur, afin que j'en chasse les Chananéens, les Amorrhéens, les Héthéens, les Phérézéens, les Hévéens et les Jébuséens,
Unto a land flowing with milk and honey: for I will not go up in the midst of thee; for thou art a stiffnecked people: lest I consume thee in the way.3 et que tu entres dans un pays où coulent le lait et le miel.
And when the people heard these evil tidings, they mourned: and no man did put on him his ornaments.4 (Or) Le peuple, entendant ces paroles si fâcheuses se mit à pleurer, et nul d'entre eux ne prit ses ornements accoutumés.
For the LORD had said unto Moses, Say unto the children of Israel, Ye are a stiffnecked people: I will come up into the midst of thee in a moment, and consume thee: therefore now put off thy ornaments from thee, that I may know what to do unto thee.5 (Ainsi) Le Seigneur dit à Moïse : Dis aux enfants d'Israël : Tu es un peuple d'une tête dure (cou roide).
And the children of Israel stripped themselves of their ornaments by the mount Horeb.6 Les enfants d'Israël quittèrent donc leur ornement au pied de la montagne d'Horeb.
And Moses took the tabernacle, and pitched it without the camp, afar off from the camp, and called it the Tabernacle of the congregation. And it came to pass, that every one which sought the LORD went out unto the tabernacle of the congregation, which was without the camp.7 Moïse aussi, prenant sa tente (le tabernacle), la (le) dressa bien loin hors du camp, et l'appela le tabernacle de l'alliance.
And it came to pass, when Moses went out unto the tabernacle, that all the people rose up, and stood every man at his tent door, and looked after Moses, until he was gone into the tabernacle.8 (Et) Lorsque Moïse sortait pour aller au tabernacle, tout le peuple se levait, et chacun se tenait à l'entrée de sa tente (son pavillon) et regardait Moïse par derrière, jusqu'à ce qu'il fût entré dans le tabernacle.
And it came to pass, as Moses entered into the tabernacle, the cloudy pillar descended, and stood at the door of the tabernacle, and the LORD talked with Moses.9 Quand Moïse était entré dans le tabernacle de l'alliance, la colonne de nuée descendait et se tenait à la porte, et le Seigneur parlait avec Moïse.
And all the people saw the cloudy pillar stand at the tabernacle door: and all the people rose up and worshipped, every man in his tent door.10 Tous les enfants d'Israël, voyant que la colonne de nuée se tenait à l'entrée du tabernacle, se tenaient eux-mêmes debout à l'entrée de leurs tentes et y adoraient le Seigneur.
And the LORD spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend. And he turned again into the camp: but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the tabernacle.11 Or le Seigneur parlait à Moïse face à face, comme un homme a coutume de parler à son ami.
And Moses said unto the LORD, See, thou sayest unto me, Bring up this people: and thou hast not let me know whom thou wilt send with me. Yet thou hast said, I know thee by name, and thou hast also found grace in my sight.12 Or Moïse dit au Seigneur : Vous me commandez d'emmener ce peuple, et vous ne me dites pas qui vous devez envoyer avec moi, quoique vous m'ayez dit : Je te connais par ton nom, et tu as trouvé grâce devant moi.
Now therefore, I pray thee, if I have found grace in thy sight, shew me now thy way, that I may know thee, that I may find grace in thy sight: and consider that this nation is thy people.13 Si j'ai donc trouvé grâce devant vous, faites-moi voir votre visage, afin que je vous connaisse et que je trouve grâce devant vos yeux.
And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest.14 Le Seigneur lui dit : Je marcherai en personne devant toi, et je te procurerai le repos.
And he said unto him, If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence.15 Moïse lui dit : Si vous ne marchez vous-même devant nous, ne nous faites point sortir de ce lieu.
For wherein shall it be known here that I and thy people have found grace in thy sight? is it not in that thou goest with us? so shall we be separated, I and thy people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth.16 Car comment pourrons-nous savoir, moi et votre peuple, que nous avons trouvé grâce devant vous, si vous ne marchez avec nous, afin que nous soyons en honneur et en gloire parmi tous les peuples qui habitent sur la terre ?
And the LORD said unto Moses, I will do this thing also that thou hast spoken: for thou hast found grace in my sight, and I know thee by name.17 Le Seigneur dit à Moïse : Je ferai tout ce que tu viens de me demander, car tu as trouvé grâce devant moi, et je te connais par ton nom.
And he said, I beseech thee, shew me thy glory.18 Moïse lui dit : Faites-moi voir votre gloire.
And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy.19 Le Seigneur lui répondit : Je te ferai voir toute sorte de biens, et je prononcerai devant toi le nom du Seigneur.
And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live.20 Dieu (Il) dit encore : Tu ne pourras voir mon visage, car nul homme ne me verra sans mourir.
And the LORD said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock:21 Il ajouta : Il y a un endroit auprès de moi, où tu te tiendras sur la pierre ;
And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by:22 et lorsque ma gloire passera, je te mettrai dans l'ouverture de la pierre, et je te couvrirai de ma main (droite) jusqu'à ce que je sois passé.
And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen.23 J'ôterai ensuite ma main, et tu me verras par derrière ; mais tu ne pourras voir mon visage.
