1 And all the congregation of the children of Israel journeyed from the wilderness of Sin, after their journeys, according to the commandment of the LORD, and pitched in Rephidim: and there was no water for the people to drink.	1 Poi tutta la moltitudine dei figli d'Israele parti dal deserto di Sin, e, marciando a tappe, secondo gli ordini del Signore, si accampò a Rafidim, dove non c'era acqua da bere per il popolo,
2 Wherefore the people did chide with Moses, and said, Give us water that we may drink. And Moses said unto them, Why chide ye with me? wherefore do ye tempt the LORD?	2 il quale mormorando contro Mosè, disse.« Dacci l'acqua per bere ». Ai quali Mosè rispose: « Perche ve la prendete con me? Perchè tentate il Signore? »
3 And the people thirsted there for water; and the people murmured against Moses, and said, Wherefore is this that thou hast brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our cattle with thirst?	3 Ma il popolo, siccome lì mancava l'acqua ed egli aveva sete, seguitò a mormorare contro Mosè, dicendo: « Perchè ci hai fatti uscire dall'Egitto, per farci morir di sete coi nostri figli e coi nostri bestiami? »
4 And Moses cried unto the LORD, saying, What shall I do unto this people? they be almost ready to stone me.	4 E Mosè gridò al Signore, dicendo: « Che devo fare a questo popolo? Tra poco mi lapiderà! »
5 And the LORD said unto Moses, Go on before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel; and thy rod, wherewith thou smotest the river, take in thine hand, and go.	5 E il Signore disse a Mosè: « Passa davanti al popolo, e prendi teco degli anziani d'Israele, prendi in mano la verga con cui percuotesti il fiume, e parti.
6 Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.	6 Ecco io starò là dinanzi a te sopra la roccia di Oreb: tu percuoterai la roccia, e ne uscirà l'acqua per dissetare il popolo ». Mosè fece così alla presenza degli anziani d'Israele.
7 And he called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the chiding of the children of Israel, and because they tempted the LORD, saying, Is the LORD among us, or not?	7 E chiamò quel luogo col nome di Tentazione, per via della mormorazione dei figli d'Israele, e perchè essi avevan tentato il Signore, dicendo: « È o non è il Signore con noi? »
8 Then came Amalek, and fought with Israel in Rephidim.	8 Or Amalec venne a combattere contro Israele a Rafidim.
9 And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek: to morrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in mine hand.	9 E Mosè disse a Giosuè: « Fa scelta d'uomini, e va a combattere contro Amalec: domani io starò sul monte colla verga di Dio in mano ».
10 So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, and fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.	10 Giosuè fece come vi osé aveva ordinato, e combattè contro Amalec, mentre Mosè, Aronne ed Hur stavano sulla vetta del monte.
11 And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.	11 E quando Mosè teneva in alto le mani, Israele vinceva; se invece le abbassava un poco, aveva il sopravvento Amalec.
12 But Moses' hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.	12 Ma siccome le braccia di Mosè s'erano stancate, presa una pietra, gliela misero sotto, e ce lo fecero sedere, e Aronne ed Hur, uno da una parte e uno dall'altra, gli sostenevan le braccia in modo che esse ressero fino al tramonto del sole.
13 And Joshua discomfited Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.	13 E così Giosuè mise in fuga Amalec e la sua gente, passandoli a fil di spada.
14 And the LORD said unto Moses, Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: for I will utterly put out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.	14 E il Signore disse a Mosè: « Questo fatto, perchè sia ricordato, scrivilo nel libro, e dichiaralo bene a Giosuè che io cancellerò di sotto al cielo la memoria di Amalec.
15 And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it Jehovah-nissi:	15 Allora Mosè eres se un altare a cui pose nome: il Signore è il mio segno alzato, e disse:
16 For he said, Because the LORD hath sworn that the LORD will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.	16 « La mano del soglio del Signore e la guerra del Signore saranno contro Amalec per tutte le generazioni ».
