1 And all the congregation of the children of Israel journeyed from the wilderness of Sin, after their journeys, according to the commandment of the LORD, and pitched in Rephidim: and there was no water for the people to drink.	1 Partì di poi tutta la moltitudine de' figliuoli d'Israele dal deserto di Sin, e fatte le loro fermate secondo gli ordini del Signore, posero gli alloggiamenti a Raphidim, dove non ebbe il popolo acqua da bere.
2 Wherefore the people did chide with Moses, and said, Give us water that we may drink. And Moses said unto them, Why chide ye with me? wherefore do ye tempt the LORD?	2 E levatosi a romore contro Mosè, disse: Dacci acqua da bere. Rispose loro Mosè: Perché mormorate contro di me? Perché tentate voi il Signore?
3 And the people thirsted there for water; and the people murmured against Moses, and said, Wherefore is this that thou hast brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our cattle with thirst?	3 Pativa adunque in quel luogo il popolo per la sete mancando l'acqua, e mormorrò contro Mosè, dicendo: Perché ci hai tu fatti uscire dall'Egitto a far perire di sete noi, e i nostri figliuoli, e i giumenti?
4 And Moses cried unto the LORD, saying, What shall I do unto this people? they be almost ready to stone me.	4 Ma Mosè alzò la voce al Signore, dicendo: Che farò io di questo popolo? non andrà molto, che ei mi lapiderà.
5 And the LORD said unto Moses, Go on before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel; and thy rod, wherewith thou smotest the river, take in thine hand, and go.	5 E il Signore disse a Mosè: Fatti incontro al popolo, e prendi teco de' seniori d'Israele: e prendi nella tua mano la verga, con cui percuotesti il fiume, e va'.
6 Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.	6 Ecco che starò ivi dinanzi a te sopra la pietra di Horeb: e tu percuoterai la pietra, e ne scaturirà l'acqua, affinché il popolo beva. Così fece Mosè in presenza de' seniori d'Israele:
7 And he called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the chiding of the children of Israel, and because they tempted the LORD, saying, Is the LORD among us, or not?	7 E pose a quel luogo il nome di Tentazione a causa della mormorazione de' figliuoli d'Israele, e perché eglino tentaron il Signore, dicendo: È egli con noi il Signore, o non è?
8 Then came Amalek, and fought with Israel in Rephidim.	8 Ma gli Amaleciti vennero a dar battaglia ad Israele in Raphidim.
9 And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek: to morrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in mine hand.	9 E disse Mosè a Giosuè: Fa' una scelta di uomini, e va' a combattere contro gli Amaleciti: domane io starò sulla cima del monte, tenendo la verga di Dio nella mia mano.
10 So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, and fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.	10 Fece Giosuè quello che Mosè avea detto, e attaccò la zuffa con Amalec: e Mosè, ed Aronne, ed Hur salirono sulla vetta del monte.
11 And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.	11 E quando Mosè alzava le mani, Israele vinceva: ma se egli alcun poco abbassava le mani, Amalec era vincente.
12 But Moses' hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.	12 E Mosè avea stanche le braccia: presa adunque una pietra gliela poser sotto, ed ei vi si mise a sedere: e Aronne e Hur sostenevano a lui le braccia dall'una e dall'altra parte. Donde avvenne, che le sue braccia ressero immote fino al tramontar del sole.
13 And Joshua discomfited Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.	13 E Giosuè sbaragliò Amalec, e mise a fil di spada il suo esercito.
14 And the LORD said unto Moses, Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: for I will utterly put out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.	14 E il Signore disse a Mosè: Scrivi questa cosa per memoria in un libro, e falla sapere a Giosuè; perocché io cancellerò sotto del cielo la memoria di Amalec.
15 And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it Jehovah-nissi:	15 E Mosè edificò un altare, a cui impose questo nome: Il Signore mia esaltazione, e disse:
16 For he said, Because the LORD hath sworn that the LORD will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.	16 La mano del Signore dal soglio di lui sarà stesa, e farà guerra contro Amalec per tutte le generazioni.
