1 And all the congregation of the children of Israel journeyed from the wilderness of Sin, after their journeys, according to the commandment of the LORD, and pitched in Rephidim: and there was no water for the people to drink.	1 Die ganze Gemeinde der Israeliten zog von der Wüste Sin weiter, von einem Rastplatz zum andern, wie es der Herr jeweils bestimmte. In Refidim schlugen sie ihr Lager auf. Weil das Volk kein Wasser zu trinken hatte,
2 Wherefore the people did chide with Moses, and said, Give us water that we may drink. And Moses said unto them, Why chide ye with me? wherefore do ye tempt the LORD?	2 geriet es mit Mose in Streit und sagte: Gebt uns Wasser zu trinken! Mose aber antwortete: Was streitet ihr mit mir? Warum stellt ihr den Herrn auf die Probe?
3 And the people thirsted there for water; and the people murmured against Moses, and said, Wherefore is this that thou hast brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our cattle with thirst?	3 Das Volk dürstete dort nach Wasser und murrte gegen Mose. Sie sagten: Warum hast du uns überhaupt aus Ägypten hierher geführt? Um uns, unsere Söhne und unser Vieh verdursten zu lassen?
4 And Moses cried unto the LORD, saying, What shall I do unto this people? they be almost ready to stone me.	4 Mose schrie zum Herrn: Was soll ich mit diesem Volk anfangen? Es fehlt nur wenig und sie steinigen mich.
5 And the LORD said unto Moses, Go on before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel; and thy rod, wherewith thou smotest the river, take in thine hand, and go.	5 Der Herr antwortete Mose: Geh am Volk vorbei und nimm einige von den Ältesten Israels mit; nimm auch den Stab in die Hand, mit dem du auf den Nil geschlagen hast, und geh!
6 Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.	6 Dort drüben auf dem Felsen am Horeb werde ich vor dir stehen. Dann schlag an den Felsen! Es wird Wasser herauskommen und das Volk kann trinken. Das tat Mose vor den Augen der Ältesten Israels.
7 And he called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the chiding of the children of Israel, and because they tempted the LORD, saying, Is the LORD among us, or not?	7 Den Ort nannte er Massa und Meriba (Probe und Streit), weil die Israeliten Streit begonnen und den Herrn auf die Probe gestellt hatten, indem sie sagten: Ist der Herr in unserer Mitte oder nicht?
8 Then came Amalek, and fought with Israel in Rephidim.	8 Als Amalek kam und in Refidim den Kampf mit Israel suchte,
9 And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek: to morrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in mine hand.	9 sagte Mose zu Josua: Wähl uns Männer aus und zieh in den Kampf gegen Amalek! Ich selbst werde mich morgen auf den Gipfel des Hügels stellen und den Gottesstab mitnehmen.
10 So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, and fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.	10 Josua tat, was ihm Mose aufgetragen hatte, und kämpfte gegen Amalek, während Mose, Aaron und Hur auf den Gipfel des Hügels stiegen.
11 And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.	11 Solange Mose seine Hand erhoben hielt, war Israel stärker; sooft er aber die Hand sinken ließ, war Amalek stärker.
12 But Moses' hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.	12 Als dem Mose die Hände schwer wurden, holten sie einen Steinbrocken, schoben ihn unter Mose und er setzte sich darauf. Aaron und Hur stützten seine Arme, der eine rechts, der andere links, sodass seine Hände erhoben blieben, bis die Sonne unterging.
13 And Joshua discomfited Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.	13 So besiegte Josua mit scharfem Schwert Amalek und sein Heer.
14 And the LORD said unto Moses, Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: for I will utterly put out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.	14 Danach sprach der Herr zu Mose: Halte das zur Erinnerung in einer Urkunde fest und präg es Josua ein! Denn ich will die Erinnerung an Amalek unter dem Himmel austilgen.
15 And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it Jehovah-nissi:	15 Mose baute einen Altar und gab ihm den Namen «Jahwe mein Feldzeichen».
16 For he said, Because the LORD hath sworn that the LORD will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.	16 Er sagte: Die Hand an Jahwes Feldzeichen! Krieg ist zwischen Jahwe und Amalek von Generation zu Generation.
