1 And all the congregation of the children of Israel journeyed from the wilderness of Sin, after their journeys, according to the commandment of the LORD, and pitched in Rephidim: and there was no water for the people to drink.	1 Toda la comunidad de los israelitas partió del desierto de Sin y siguió avanzando por etapas, conforme a la orden del Señor. Cuando acamparon en Refidim, el pueblo no tenía agua para beber.
2 Wherefore the people did chide with Moses, and said, Give us water that we may drink. And Moses said unto them, Why chide ye with me? wherefore do ye tempt the LORD?	2 Entonces acusaron a Moisés y le dijeron: «Danos agua para que podamos beber». Moisés les respondió: «¿Por qué me acusan? ¿Por qué provocan al Señor?».
3 And the people thirsted there for water; and the people murmured against Moses, and said, Wherefore is this that thou hast brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our cattle with thirst?	3 Pero el pueblo, torturado por la sed, protestó contra Moisés diciendo: «¿Para qué nos hiciste salir de Egipto? ¿Sólo para hacernos morir de sed, junto con nuestros hijos y nuestro ganado?».
4 And Moses cried unto the LORD, saying, What shall I do unto this people? they be almost ready to stone me.	4 Moisés pidió auxilio al Señor, diciendo: «¿Cómo tengo que comportarme con este pueblo, si falta poco para que me maten a pedradas?».
5 And the LORD said unto Moses, Go on before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel; and thy rod, wherewith thou smotest the river, take in thine hand, and go.	5 El Señor respondió a Moisés: «Pasa delante del pueblo, acompañado de algunos ancianos de Israel, y lleva en tu mano el bastón con que golpeaste las aguas del Nilo. Ve,
6 Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.	6 porque yo estaré delante de ti, allá sobre la roca, en Horeb. Tú golpearás la roca, y de ella brotará agua para que beba el pueblo». Así lo hizo Moisés, a la vista de los ancianos de Israel.
7 And he called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the chiding of the children of Israel, and because they tempted the LORD, saying, Is the LORD among us, or not?	7 Aquel lugar recibió el nombre de Masá –que significa «Provocación»– y de Meribá –que significa «Querella»– a causa de la acusación de los israelitas, y porque ellos provocaron al Señor, diciendo: «¿El Señor está realmente entre nosotros, o no?».
8 Then came Amalek, and fought with Israel in Rephidim.	8 Después vinieron los amalecitas y atacaron a Israel en Refidim.
9 And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek: to morrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in mine hand.	9 Moisés dijo a Josué: «Elige a algunos de nuestros hombres y ve mañana a combatir contra Amalec. Yo estaré de pie sobre la cima del monte, teniendo en mi mano el bastón de Dios».
10 So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, and fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.	10 Josué hizo lo que le había dicho Moisés, y fue a combatir contra los amalecitas. Entretanto, Moisés, Aarón y Jur habían subido a la cima del monte.
11 And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.	11 Y mientras Moisés tenía los brazos levantados, vencía Israel; pero cuando los dejaba caer, prevalecía Amalec.
12 But Moses' hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.	12 Como Moisés tenía los brazos muy cansados, ellos tomaron una piedra y la pusieron donde él estaba. Moisés se sentó sobre la piedra, mientras Aarón y Jur le sostenían los brazos, uno a cada lado. Así sus brazos se mantuvieron firmes hasta la puesta del sol.
13 And Joshua discomfited Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.	13 De esa manera, Josué derrotó a Amalec y a sus tropas al fino de la espada.
14 And the LORD said unto Moses, Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: for I will utterly put out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.	14 El Señor dijo a Moisés: «Escribe esto en un documento como memorial y grábalo en los oídos de Josué: «Yo borraré debajo del cielo el recuerdo de Amalec».
15 And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it Jehovah-nissi:	15 Luego Moisés edificó un altar, al que llamó «El Señor es mi estandarte».
16 For he said, Because the LORD hath sworn that the LORD will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.	16 y exclamó: «Porque una mano se alzó contra el trono del Señor, el Señor está en guerra contra Amalec de generación en generación».
