1 Now in the twelfth month, that is, the month Adar, on the thirteenth day of the same, when the king's commandment and his decree drew near to be put in execution, in the day that the enemies of the Jews hoped to have power over them, (though it was turned to the contrary, that the Jews had rule over them that hated them;)	1 - Pertanto, ai tredici del dodicesimo mese che già abbiam detto essere chiamato Adar proprio quando era stata preparata la strage di tutti i Giudei, ed i loro nemici anelavano al loro sangue, cambiate invece le sorti, i Giudei si trovarono superiori, e da potersi vendicare degli avversari.
2 The Jews gathered themselves together in their cities throughout all the provinces of the king Ahasuerus, to lay hand on such as sought their hurt: and no man could withstand them; for the fear of them fell upon all people.	2 Si radunarono dunque in ogni città, luogo e castello, per assalire i loro nemici e persecutori; nè alcuno osò loro resistere, perchè in tutti i popoli era entrato il timore della loro potenza.
3 And all the rulers of the provinces, and the lieutenants, and the deputies, and officers of the king, helped the Jews; because the fear of Mordecai fell upon them.	3 Poichè anche i giudici e capi e governatori delle province, e tutti quelli che avevano autorità sui singoli luoghi e lavori, sostenevano i Giudei, per timore di Mardocheo
4 For Mordecai was great in the king's house, and his fame went out throughout all the provinces: for this man Mordecai waxed greater and greater.	4 il quale sapevano essere primo a corte, e molto potente. La fama del nome suo cresceva ogni giorno, ed era sulle bocche di tutti.
5 Thus the Jews smote all their enemies with the stroke of the sword, and slaughter, and destruction, and did what they would unto those that hated them.	5 Fecero dunque i Giudei grande strage de' loro nemici, uccidendoli, e rendendo ad essi quel che s'erano apparecchiati a far loro;
6 And in Shushan the palace the Jews slew and destroyed five hundred men.	6 così che anche in Susa uccisero cinquecento uomini, oltre i dieci figli di Aman l'Agageo nemico de' Giudei, che avevano nome
7 And Parshandatha, and Dalphon, and Aspatha,	7 Farsandata, Delfon, Esfata,
8 And Poratha, and Adalia, and Aridatha,	8 Forata, Adalia, Aridata,
9 And Parmashta, and Arisai, and Aridai, and Vajezatha,	9 Fermesta, Arisai, Aridai e Jezata.
10 The ten sons of Haman the son of Hammedatha, the enemy of the Jews, slew they; but on the spoil laid they not their hand.	10 Ma dopo averli uccisi, non vollero toccare nè predare le loro sostanze.
11 On that day the number of those that were slain in Shushan the palace was brought before the king.	11 Subito fu riferito al re il numero degli uccisi in Susa.
12 And the king said unto Esther the queen, The Jews have slain and destroyed five hundred men in Shushan the palace, and the ten sons of Haman; what have they done in the rest of the king's provinces? now what is thy petition? and it shall be granted thee: or what is thy request further? and it shall be done.	12 Disse egli alla regina: «I Giudei hanno ucciso in Susa cinquecento uomini, ed altri dieci, figli di Aman. Quale strage credi tu che faranno in tutte le province? Che cosa chiedi ancora e che cosa vuoi ch'io dia ordine si faccia?».
13 Then said Esther, If it please the king, let it be granted to the Jews which are in Shushan to do tomorrow also according unto this day's decree, and let Haman's ten sons be hanged upon the gallows.	13 Essa rispose: «Se piace al re, si dia facoltà ai Giudei di fare anche domani in Susa come hanno fatto oggi; ed i [corpi dei] dieci figli di Aman siano appesi alle forche».
14 And the king commanded it so to be done: and the decree was given at Shushan; and they hanged Haman's ten sons.	14 Il re comandò che così fosse fatto, e subito ne fu affisso in Susa l'editto, ed i dieci figli d'Aman furono appiccati.
15 For the Jews that were in Shushan gathered themselves together on the fourteenth day also of the month Adar, and slew three hundred men at Shushan; but on the prey they laid not their hand.	15 Radunatisi pertanto i Giudei il giorno quattordici del mese di Adar, uccisero in Susa altri trecento uomini; ma nulla presero delle loro sostanze.
16 But the other Jews that were in the king's provinces gathered themselves together, and stood for their lives, and had rest from their enemies, and slew of their foes seventy and five thousand, but they laid not their hands on the prey,	16 Così pure, in tutte le province soggette all'impero del re, i Giudei difesero la propria vita uccidendo i propri nemici e persecutori, così che s'arrivò al numero di settantacinquemila uccisi; ma nessuno prese nulla de' loro averi.
17 On the thirteenth day of the month Adar; and on the fourteenth day of the same rested they, and made it a day of feasting and gladness.	17 Il giorno tredici del mese di Adar fu dunque per tutti il primo della strage, ed il giorno quattordici cessarono dall'uccisione. Stabilirono pertanto che questo fosse un giorno solenne, e che d'allora in poi sempre l'avrebbero celebrato con banchetti, feste e conviti.
18 But the Jews that were at Shushan assembled together on the thirteenth day thereof; and on the fourteenth thereof; and on the fifteenth day of the same they rested, and made it a day of feasting and gladness.	18 Quelli invece che avevano preso le armi in Susa, nei giorni tredici e quattordici di quel mese le usarono uccidendo, ed il giorno quindici le posarono. Perciò stabilirono questo per giorno solenne di banchetti e di feste.
19 Therefore the Jews of the villages, that dwelt in the unwalled towns, made the fourteenth day of the month Adar a day of gladness and feasting, and a good day, and of sending portions one to another.	19 Gli altri Giudei, che dimoravano in città non murate e villaggi, presero il giorno quattordici del mese di Adar per fare festa e convito ed in quello fanno allegria, e si mandano scambievolmente doni di vivande e di cibi.
20 And Mordecai wrote these things, and sent letters unto all the Jews that were in all the provinces of the king Ahasuerus, both nigh and far,	20 Mardocheo dunque scrisse tutte queste cose, e fattane una lettera la mandò ai Giudei che dimoravano in tutte le province del re, tanto vicine quanto lontane,
21 To stablish this among them, that they should keep the fourteenth day of the month Adar, and the fifteenth day of the same, yearly,	21 acciò annoverassero tra i giorni di festa il quattordici ed il quindici del mese di Adar, ed al tornare d'ogni anno li celebrassero solennemente;
22 As the days wherein the Jews rested from their enemies, and the month which was turned unto them from sorrow to joy, and from mourning into a good day: that they should make them days of feasting and joy, and of sending portions one to another, and gifts to the poor.	22 perchè in quei giorni i Giudei presero la rivincita sui loro nemici, e la tristezza ed il lutto si cambiarono in allegrezza e tripudio. Fossero dunque questi giorni di banchetti e di feste, e tutti si mandassero vicendevolmente doni di cibi, e facessero regali ai poveri.
23 And the Jews undertook to do as they had begun, and as Mordecai had written unto them;	23 Ed i Giudei adottarono per rito solenne tutto quello che allora avevano cominciato a fare, e che Mardocheo per lettera aveva ordinato.
24 Because Haman the son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, the enemy of all the Jews, had devised against the Jews to destroy them, and had cast Pur, that is, the lot, to consume them, and to destroy them;	24 Poichè Aman figlio d'Amadati, della stirpe di Agag, nemico e persecutore dei Giudei, aveva ai loro danni fatto il proposito d'ucciderli e sterminarli; ed aveva gettato il Pur, che nella nostra lingua [ebraica] significa Sorte.
25 But when Esther came before the king, he commanded by letters that his wicked device, which he devised against the Jews, should return upon his own head, and that he and his sons should be hanged on the gallows.	25 Ma poi Ester si presentò al re, supplicando che quelle macchinazioni fossero sventate da una lettera reale, e che il male di Aman preparato contro i Giudei ricadesse sul capo di lui. Ed infine, egli ed i suoi figliuoli erano stati appiccati ad un patibolo.
26 Wherefore they called these days Purim after the name of Pur. Therefore for all the words of this letter, and of that which they had seen concerning this matter, and which had come unto them,	26 Perciò, da allora in poi, quei giorni furono chiamati Purim, cioè delle Sorti, perchè era stato gettato nell'urna, il Pur, cioè la Sorte. E tutto quel che avvenne trovasi descritto in quella lettera e nel presente libro.
27 The Jews ordained, and took upon them, and upon their seed, and upon all such as joined themselves unto them, so as it should not fail, that they would keep these two days according to their writing, and according to their appointed time every year;	27 Ora, per quello che ebbero allora a soffrire, e per quello in che poi gli eventi si cambiarono, i Giudei obbligarono sè, i loro discendenti, e tutti quelli che volessero abbracciare la loro religione, di guisa che a nessuno sia lecito passare senza solennità questi due giorni; di ciò fa fede questo scritto e ne torna a suo tempo la memoria al succedersi d'un anno all'altro.
28 And that these days should be remembered and kept throughout every generation, every family, every province, and every city; and that these days of Purim should not fail from among the Jews, nor the memorial of them perish from their seed.	28 Questi son giorni, che mai potranno passare in dimenticanza, e di generazione in generazione verranno celebrati in ogni provincia su tutta la terra; nè v'è città, nella quale i giorni di Purim, cioè delle Sorti, non siano festeggiati da' Giudei e dalla loro stirpe, obbligata com'è a queste osservanze.
29 Then Esther the queen, the daughter of Abihail, and Mordecai the Jew, wrote with all authority, to confirm this second letter of Purim.	29 La regina Ester figlia di Abiail, e Mardocheo giudeo, scrissero ancora una seconda lettera, acciò con tutta esattezza s'osservasse anche in avvenire questa solennità.
30 And he sent the letters unto all the Jews, to the hundred twenty and seven provinces of the kingdom of Ahasuerus, with words of peace and truth,	30 E la mandarono a tutti i Giudei che dimoravano nelle centoventisette province del re Assuero, acciò godessero la pace, e ritenessero la verità,
31 To confirm these days of Purim in their times appointed, according as Mordecai the Jew and Esther the queen had enjoined them, and as they had decreed for themselves and for their seed, the matters of the fastings and their cry.	31 osservando i giorni delle Sorti, e celebrandoli al tempo dovuto con allegrezza. E come Mardocheo ed Ester avevano stabilito, così essi per sè e pei loro figli presero ad osservare i digiuni, le grida, i giorni delle Sorti, Ester 9:32 e tutto quello che è contenuto nella storia di questo libro detto di Ester.
32 And the decree of Esther confirmed these matters of Purim; and it was written in the book.
