1 Now in the twelfth month, that is, the month Adar, on the thirteenth day of the same, when the king's commandment and his decree drew near to be put in execution, in the day that the enemies of the Jews hoped to have power over them, (though it was turned to the contrary, that the Jews had rule over them that hated them;)	1 El trece del duodécimo mes –que es el mes de Adar– día en que se debía ejecutar la orden del rey y su decreto, cuando los enemigos de los judíos esperaban dominarlos, se produjo un cambio de situación: de hecho, fueron los judíos los que se impusieron sobre sus enemigos.
2 The Jews gathered themselves together in their cities throughout all the provinces of the king Ahasuerus, to lay hand on such as sought their hurt: and no man could withstand them; for the fear of them fell upon all people.	2 Ellos se reunieron en sus respectivas ciudades, en todas las provincias del rey Asuero, para atacar a los que buscaban su ruina. Nadie les opuso resistencia, porque el temor a los judíos se había apoderado de todos los pueblos.
3 And all the rulers of the provinces, and the lieutenants, and the deputies, and officers of the king, helped the Jews; because the fear of Mordecai fell upon them.	3 Todos los jefes de las provincias, los prefectos, los gobernadores y los funcionarios del rey les prestaron su apoyo, porque el temor a Mardoqueo se había apoderado de ellos,
4 For Mordecai was great in the king's house, and his fame went out throughout all the provinces: for this man Mordecai waxed greater and greater.	4 ya que este ocupaba un alto cargo en el palacio real y su fama se extendía por todas las provincias: Mardoqueo, en efecto, se engrandecía cada vez más.
5 Thus the Jews smote all their enemies with the stroke of the sword, and slaughter, and destruction, and did what they would unto those that hated them.	5 Los judíos pasaron al filo de la espada a todos sus enemigos: fue una verdadera masacre, un exterminio. Trataron como quisieron a los que los odiaban,
6 And in Shushan the palace the Jews slew and destroyed five hundred men.	6 y en la ciudadela de Susa mataron y exterminaron a quinientos hombres,
7 And Parshandatha, and Dalphon, and Aspatha,	7 dando muerte, especialmente, a Parsandata, Dalfón, Aspata,
8 And Poratha, and Adalia, and Aridatha,	8 Porata, Adalías, Aridata,
9 And Parmashta, and Arisai, and Aridai, and Vajezatha,	9 Parmasta, Arisai, Aridai y Vaisata,
10 The ten sons of Haman the son of Hammedatha, the enemy of the Jews, slew they; but on the spoil laid they not their hand.	10 los diez hijos de Amán, hijo de Hamdatá, el opresor de los judíos. Los mataron, pero no recogieron ningún botín.
11 On that day the number of those that were slain in Shushan the palace was brought before the king.	11 Ese mismo día, llegó a conocimiento de rey el número de los que habían sido matados en la Ciudadela de Susa.
12 And the king said unto Esther the queen, The Jews have slain and destroyed five hundred men in Shushan the palace, and the ten sons of Haman; what have they done in the rest of the king's provinces? now what is thy petition? and it shall be granted thee: or what is thy request further? and it shall be done.	12 El rey dijo entonces a la reina Ester: «En la ciudadela de Susa, los judíos mataron y exterminaron a quinientos hombres y a los diez hijos de Amán. ¡Qué no habrán hecho en el resto de las provincias reales! Pero ¿qué es lo que pides? Lo que sea, te será concedido. ¿Qué otra cosa deseas? Se hará lo que tú digas».
13 Then said Esther, If it please the king, let it be granted to the Jews which are in Shushan to do tomorrow also according unto this day's decree, and let Haman's ten sons be hanged upon the gallows.	13 Ester respondió: «Si al rey le parece bien, que a los judíos de Susa les sea permitido actual también mañana conforme al decreto válido para hoy, y que los hijos de Amán sean colgados del patíbulo».
14 And the king commanded it so to be done: and the decree was given at Shushan; and they hanged Haman's ten sons.	14 El rey ordenó que así se hiciera: en Susa se promulgó un decreto y los diez hijos de Amán fueron colgados.
15 For the Jews that were in Shushan gathered themselves together on the fourteenth day also of the month Adar, and slew three hundred men at Shushan; but on the prey they laid not their hand.	15 Así, los judíos de Susa se reunieron una vez más el día catorce del mes de Adar y mataron allí a trescientos hombres, pero no recogieron ningún botín.
16 But the other Jews that were in the king's provinces gathered themselves together, and stood for their lives, and had rest from their enemies, and slew of their foes seventy and five thousand, but they laid not their hands on the prey,	16 En cuanto a los demás judíos de las provincias reales, también se reunieron para defender sus vidas y así se libraron de los ataques de sus adversarios: ellos mataron a setenta y cinco mil entre sus enemigos, pero no recogieron ningún botín.
17 On the thirteenth day of the month Adar; and on the fourteenth day of the same rested they, and made it a day of feasting and gladness.	17 Esto sucedió el día trece del mes de Adar; el catorce descansaron y celebraron ese día con banquetes y alegría.
18 But the Jews that were at Shushan assembled together on the thirteenth day thereof; and on the fourteenth thereof; and on the fifteenth day of the same they rested, and made it a day of feasting and gladness.	18 Pero los judíos de Susa, que se habían concentrado el trece y el catorce, descansaron el día quince y lo festejaron con banquetes y alegría.
19 Therefore the Jews of the villages, that dwelt in the unwalled towns, made the fourteenth day of the month Adar a day of gladness and feasting, and a good day, and of sending portions one to another.	19 Por eso los judíos de las zonas rurales celebran el día catorce del mes de Adar como un día de alegría, de banquetes y fiesta, y en él se envían regalos unos a otros.
20 And Mordecai wrote these things, and sent letters unto all the Jews that were in all the provinces of the king Ahasuerus, both nigh and far,	20 Mardoqueo consignó estas cosas por escrito y envió cartas a todos los judíos de todas las provincias del rey Asuero, tanto a los que estaban cerca como a los más alejados.
21 To stablish this among them, that they should keep the fourteenth day of the month Adar, and the fifteenth day of the same, yearly,	21 En ellas disponía que celebraran cada año el catorce y el quince del mes de Adar,
22 As the days wherein the Jews rested from their enemies, and the month which was turned unto them from sorrow to joy, and from mourning into a good day: that they should make them days of feasting and joy, and of sending portions one to another, and gifts to the poor.	22 por ser esos los días en que los judíos habían quedando libres de sus enemigos, y por ser ese el mes en que la aflicción se les había cambiado en alegría y el duelo en un día de fiesta. Por eso debían festejarlos como días de banquetes y alegría, enviarse regalos unos a otros y ofrecer donativos a los pobres.
23 And the Jews undertook to do as they had begun, and as Mordecai had written unto them;	23 Los judíos hicieron una tradición de lo que habían comenzado a festejar y de lo que les había ordenado Mardoqueo.
24 Because Haman the son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, the enemy of all the Jews, had devised against the Jews to destroy them, and had cast Pur, that is, the lot, to consume them, and to destroy them;	24 Porque Amán, hijo de Hamdatá, el agaguita, el opresor de todos los judíos, había proyectado eliminar a los judíos y había echado el «Pur» –es decir, la suerte– con el fin de confundirlos y eliminarlos.
25 But when Esther came before the king, he commanded by letters that his wicked device, which he devised against the Jews, should return upon his own head, and that he and his sons should be hanged on the gallows.	25 Pero, cuando se presentó ante el rey, este ordenó por escrito que recayera sobre la cabeza de Amán el plan perverso que había concebido contra los judíos, y lo colgaron del patíbulo, a él y a sus hijos.
26 Wherefore they called these days Purim after the name of Pur. Therefore for all the words of this letter, and of that which they had seen concerning this matter, and which had come unto them,	26 Por eso a aquellos días se los llamó «Purím» de la palabra «Pur». De acuerdo con el contenido de aquella carta, y por lo que habían visto y les había sucedido,
27 The Jews ordained, and took upon them, and upon their seed, and upon all such as joined themselves unto them, so as it should not fail, that they would keep these two days according to their writing, and according to their appointed time every year;	27 los judíos instituyeron para ellos mismos, para sus descendientes y para todos sus adeptos, la tradición irrevocable de celebrar anualmente esos dos días, según lo dispuesto en aquel escrito y en la fecha fijada.
28 And that these days should be remembered and kept throughout every generation, every family, every province, and every city; and that these days of Purim should not fail from among the Jews, nor the memorial of them perish from their seed.	28 Estos días son conmemorados y celebrados de generación en generación, en cada familia, en cada provincia y en cada ciudad. Y estos días de «Purím» nunca dejarán de ser festejados entre los judíos, ni se borrará su recuerdo entre sus descendientes.
29 Then Esther the queen, the daughter of Abihail, and Mordecai the Jew, wrote with all authority, to confirm this second letter of Purim.	29 La reina Ester, hija de Abijáil, y Mardoqueo, el judío, escribieron urgiendo el cumplimiento de esta segunda carta relativa a los «Purím».
30 And he sent the letters unto all the Jews, to the hundred twenty and seven provinces of the kingdom of Ahasuerus, with words of peace and truth,	30 Se mandaron cartas a todos los judíos de las ciento veintisiete provincias del rey Asuero, con saludos y expresiones de lealtad,
31 To confirm these days of Purim in their times appointed, according as Mordecai the Jew and Esther the queen had enjoined them, and as they had decreed for themselves and for their seed, the matters of the fastings and their cry.	31 para instituir estos días de los «Purím», en las fechas fijadas, como lo habían ordenado Mardoqueo, el judío, y la reina Ester, y como lo habían establecido para sí mismos y para sus descendientes, con algunas cláusulas sobre ayunos y lamentaciones.
32 And the decree of Esther confirmed these matters of Purim; and it was written in the book.	32 Así, la orden de Ester confirmó la institución de los «Purím», y esto quedó consignado por escrito.
