1 Now in the twelfth month, that is, the month Adar, on the thirteenth day of the same, when the king's commandment and his decree drew near to be put in execution, in the day that the enemies of the Jews hoped to have power over them, (though it was turned to the contrary, that the Jews had rule over them that hated them;)	1 Le treizième jour du douzième mois (le mois d’Adar), la situation se retourna. Ce jour même où l’on devait exécuter l’ordre du roi et son décret, ce jour où les ennemis des Juifs avaient pensé les exterminer, les Juifs triomphèrent de ceux qui les détestaient.
2 The Jews gathered themselves together in their cities throughout all the provinces of the king Ahasuerus, to lay hand on such as sought their hurt: and no man could withstand them; for the fear of them fell upon all people.	2 Dans toutes les provinces du royaume d’Assuérus, les Juifs se réunirent dans leurs villes pour frapper ceux qui leur voulaient du mal; personne ne put leur résister, car tous les peuples avaient peur des Juifs.
3 And all the rulers of the provinces, and the lieutenants, and the deputies, and officers of the king, helped the Jews; because the fear of Mordecai fell upon them.	3 Tous les gouverneurs de province, les chefs, les responsables et les fonctionnaires du roi, aidaient les Juifs par peur de Mardochée.
4 For Mordecai was great in the king's house, and his fame went out throughout all the provinces: for this man Mordecai waxed greater and greater.	4 Car Mardochée était un personnage important dans le palais royal, sa renommée s’était répandue dans toutes les provinces et cet homme, Mardochée, devenait de plus en plus puissant.
5 Thus the Jews smote all their enemies with the stroke of the sword, and slaughter, and destruction, and did what they would unto those that hated them.	5 Les Juifs frappèrent à coups d’épée tous leurs ennemis; ce fut une tuerie, un massacre! Ils traitèrent comme ils le voulaient tous ceux qui les détestaient.
6 And in Shushan the palace the Jews slew and destroyed five hundred men.	6 Dans la forteresse de Suse, les Juifs tuèrent et massacrèrent 500 hommes.
7 And Parshandatha, and Dalphon, and Aspatha,	7 Parchandata, Dalfon, Aspata,
8 And Poratha, and Adalia, and Aridatha,	8 Porata, Adalya, Aridata,
9 And Parmashta, and Arisai, and Aridai, and Vajezatha,	9 Parmachta, Arisaï, Aridaï et Yézada,
10 The ten sons of Haman the son of Hammedatha, the enemy of the Jews, slew they; but on the spoil laid they not their hand.	10 les 10 fils d’Aman, fils de Hamdata, l’ennemi des Juifs, furent mis à mort; cependant les Juifs ne se livrèrent pas au pillage.
11 On that day the number of those that were slain in Shushan the palace was brought before the king.	11 Ce jour-là, on apprit au roi le nombre de ceux qui avaient été mis à mort dans la forteresse de Suse.
12 And the king said unto Esther the queen, The Jews have slain and destroyed five hundred men in Shushan the palace, and the ten sons of Haman; what have they done in the rest of the king's provinces? now what is thy petition? and it shall be granted thee: or what is thy request further? and it shall be done.	12 Le roi dit alors à la reine Esther: "Rien que dans la forteresse de Suse, les Juifs ont tué et massacré 500 hommes et les 10 fils d’Aman; que n’auront-ils fait dans les autres provinces! Mais dis-moi ce que tu veux, cela te sera accordé. As-tu une demande? Cela sera fait.”
13 Then said Esther, If it please the king, let it be granted to the Jews which are in Shushan to do tomorrow also according unto this day's decree, and let Haman's ten sons be hanged upon the gallows.	13 Esther lui dit: "Si le roi le veut bien, qu’il accorde aux Juifs de Suse de continuer demain comme ils ont fait aujourd’hui, selon le décret du roi, et qu’on pende à la potence les 10 fils d’Aman.”
14 And the king commanded it so to be done: and the decree was given at Shushan; and they hanged Haman's ten sons.	14 Le roi décida que l’on ferait ainsi. On publia un décret dans Suse, et l’on pendit les 10 fils d’Aman.
15 For the Jews that were in Shushan gathered themselves together on the fourteenth day also of the month Adar, and slew three hundred men at Shushan; but on the prey they laid not their hand.	15 Les Juifs de Suse se rassemblèrent le quatorzième jour du mois d’Adar et tuèrent encore dans Suse, 300 hommes, mais ils ne se livrèrent pas au pillage.
16 But the other Jews that were in the king's provinces gathered themselves together, and stood for their lives, and had rest from their enemies, and slew of their foes seventy and five thousand, but they laid not their hands on the prey,	16 Les autres Juifs qui étaient dans les provinces du royaume, se réunirent aussi pour défendre leurs vies; ils firent le nécessaire pour être tranquilles du côté de ceux qui les détestaient, et tuèrent 75 000 de leurs ennemis; mais ils ne se livrèrent pas au pillage.
17 On the thirteenth day of the month Adar; and on the fourteenth day of the same rested they, and made it a day of feasting and gladness.	17 Ils firent cela le treizième jour du mois d’Adar, et ils firent du quatorzième jour un jour de repos, de banquets et de fête.
18 But the Jews that were at Shushan assembled together on the thirteenth day thereof; and on the fourteenth thereof; and on the fifteenth day of the same they rested, and made it a day of feasting and gladness.	18 Les Juifs qui étaient à Suse se réunirent le 13 et le 14 du mois, et ils firent du quinzième jour du mois un jour de repos, de banquets et de fête.
19 Therefore the Jews of the villages, that dwelt in the unwalled towns, made the fourteenth day of the month Adar a day of gladness and feasting, and a good day, and of sending portions one to another.	19 C’est pour cela que les Juifs qui habitent la campagne ou les villes non fortifiées, font du quatorzième jour du mois d’Adar, un jour de réjouissance, de banquets et de fête; chacun envoie à cette occasion, des cadeaux à son prochain.
20 And Mordecai wrote these things, and sent letters unto all the Jews that were in all the provinces of the king Ahasuerus, both nigh and far,	20 Mardochée mit tout cela par écrit et envoya des lettres à tous les Juifs des différentes provinces d’Assuérus, aux plus proches comme aux plus lointains.
21 To stablish this among them, that they should keep the fourteenth day of the month Adar, and the fifteenth day of the same, yearly,	21 Il leur ordonnait de célébrer chaque année le quatorzième et le quinzième jour du mois d’Adar.
22 As the days wherein the Jews rested from their enemies, and the month which was turned unto them from sorrow to joy, and from mourning into a good day: that they should make them days of feasting and joy, and of sending portions one to another, and gifts to the poor.	22 Car en ces jours les Juifs s’étaient enfin débarrassés de leurs ennemis; en ce mois les larmes avaient fait place à la joie et le deuil à la fête. Ils devaient en ces jours organiser des banquets et des réjouissances, s’envoyer des cadeaux les uns aux autres et faire des offrandes pour les pauvres.
23 And the Jews undertook to do as they had begun, and as Mordecai had written unto them;	23 Les Juifs firent passer dans la coutume ce qu’ils avaient fait ces jours-là, comme Mardochée le leur avait ordonné.
24 Because Haman the son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, the enemy of all the Jews, had devised against the Jews to destroy them, and had cast Pur, that is, the lot, to consume them, and to destroy them;	24 Aman, fils de Hamdata, de la race d’Agag, l’ennemi des Juifs, avait fait le projet de les exterminer; il avait jeté le Pour, c’est-à-dire le sort, pour les détruire et les massacrer,
25 But when Esther came before the king, he commanded by letters that his wicked device, which he devised against the Jews, should return upon his own head, and that he and his sons should be hanged on the gallows.	25 mais lorsque le roi l’apprit, il ordonna par un décret de faire retomber sur la tête du coupable son mauvais dessein contre les Juifs, et de le pendre avec ses fils à la potence.
26 Wherefore they called these days Purim after the name of Pur. Therefore for all the words of this letter, and of that which they had seen concerning this matter, and which had come unto them,	26 À cause du mot Pour, on appelle ces jours, les Pourim. C’est pourquoi à la suite de la lettre du roi, de ce qu’ils avaient vu et de ce qui leur était arrivé,
27 The Jews ordained, and took upon them, and upon their seed, and upon all such as joined themselves unto them, so as it should not fail, that they would keep these two days according to their writing, and according to their appointed time every year;	27 les Juifs établirent cette règle pour eux, pour leurs descendants et pour tous ceux qui se joindraient à eux: ils célébreraient chaque année à la date fixée, sans y manquer, ces deux jours, selon la règle prescrite.
28 And that these days should be remembered and kept throughout every generation, every family, every province, and every city; and that these days of Purim should not fail from among the Jews, nor the memorial of them perish from their seed.	28 Chaque génération, chaque clan, chaque province, chaque ville, devait rappeler et célébrer ces deux jours, pour que les Juifs ne les oublient jamais, pour que leur souvenir ne soit jamais effacé.
29 Then Esther the queen, the daughter of Abihail, and Mordecai the Jew, wrote with all authority, to confirm this second letter of Purim.	29 La reine Esther, fille d’Abihayil, et le Juif Mardochée, apportèrent l’appui de leur autorité à cette seconde lettre concernant les Pourim.
30 And he sent the letters unto all the Jews, to the hundred twenty and seven provinces of the kingdom of Ahasuerus, with words of peace and truth,	30 On envoya des lettres à tous les Juifs des 127 provinces du royaume d’Assuérus, avec des paroles de paix et d’amitié,
31 To confirm these days of Purim in their times appointed, according as Mordecai the Jew and Esther the queen had enjoined them, and as they had decreed for themselves and for their seed, the matters of the fastings and their cry.	31 pour confirmer ces jours des Pourim, pour en rappeler la date fixée par Mardochée, le Juif, et la reine Esther, les règles établies pour eux et pour leurs descendants, ainsi que tout ce qui concerne les jeûnes et les lamentations.
32 And the decree of Esther confirmed these matters of Purim; and it was written in the book.	32 Le décret d’Esther qui confirmait l’institution des Pourim fut noté dans un livre.
