1 Now after this it came to pass, that David smote the Philistines, and subdued them, and took Gath and her towns out of the hand of the Philistines.	1 Ezek után az történt, hogy Dávid megverte a filiszteusokat és megalázta őket s elvette Gátot és leányvárosait a filiszteusok kezéből.
2 And he smote Moab; and the Moabites became David's servants, and brought gifts.	2 Aztán megverte a moabitákat, és a moabiták Dávid adófizető szolgáivá lettek.
3 And David smote Hadarezer king of Zobah unto Hamath, as he went to stablish his dominion by the river Euphrates.	3 Ugyanabban az időben megverte Dávid Adarézert, a Hemát vidékén levő Szóba királyát is, amikor az elindult, hogy kiterjessze hatalmát az Eufrátesz folyóig.
4 And David took from him a thousand chariots, and seven thousand horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen: David also houghed all the chariot horses, but reserved of them an hundred chariots.	4 Ezer harciszekerét, hétezer lovasát s húszezer gyalogos emberét fogta el Dávid, de valamennyi szekeres ló inát elvágatta, kivéve száz szekérbe valót, amelyet magának tartott meg.
5 And when the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadarezer king of Zobah, David slew of the Syrians two and twenty thousand men.	5 Amikor aztán odajöttek a damaszkuszi szírek, hogy segítséget nyújtsanak Adarézernek, Szóba királyának, közülük is levágott Dávid huszonkétezer embert,
6 Then David put garrisons in Syria-damascus; and the Syrians became David's servants, and brought gifts. Thus the LORD preserved David whithersoever he went.	6 aztán vitézeket helyezett Damaszkuszba, hogy Szíria is szolgáljon és adót fizessen neki. Így segítette őt az Úr mindenütt, ahova ment.
7 And David took the shields of gold that were on the servants of Hadarezer, and brought them to Jerusalem.	7 Ugyanekkor elvette Dávid azokat az arany tegzeket is, amelyek Adarézer szolgáinál voltak és elvitte Jeruzsálembe.
8 Likewise from Tibhath, and from Chun, cities of Hadarezer, brought David very much brass, wherewith Solomon made the brasen sea, and the pillars, and the vessels of brass.	8 Tebátból és Kúnból, Adarézer városaiból pedig igen sok rezet szerzett. Ebből csináltatta Salamon a rézmedencét, az oszlopokat és a réztárgyakat.
9 Now when Tou king of Hamath heard how David had smitten all the host of Hadarezer king of Zobah;	9 Amikor ezt Tóu, Hemát királya meghallotta, azt tudniillik, hogy Dávid megverte Adarézernek, Szóba királyának egész hadseregét,
10 He sent Hadoram his son to king David, to inquire of his welfare, and to congratulate him, because he had fought against Hadarezer, and smitten him; (for Hadarezer had war with Tou;) and with him all manner of vessels of gold and silver and brass.	10 elküldte fiát, Adorámot Dávid királyhoz, hogy békét kérjen tőle és üdvözölje őt abból az alkalomból, hogy megverte és legyőzte Adarézert – Tóu ugyanis ellensége volt Adarézernek.
11 Them also king David dedicated unto the LORD, with the silver and the gold that he brought from all these nations; from Edom, and from Moab, and from the children of Ammon, and from the Philistines, and from Amalek.	11 Dávid király azonban az összes arany-, ezüst- és réztárgyat az Úrnak szentelte, azzal az ezüsttel és arannyal együtt, amelyet a különböző nemzetektől, az edomitáktól, a moabitáktól, Ammon fiaitól, valamint a filiszteusoktól s az amalekitáktól zsákmányolt.
12 Moreover Abishai the son of Zeruiah slew of the Edomites in the valley of salt eighteen thousand.	12 Abizáj, Száruja fia pedig megvert a Sóaknás-völgyben tizennyolcezer edomitát
13 And he put garrisons in Edom; and all the Edomites became David's servants. Thus the LORD preserved David whithersoever he went.	13 és helyőrséget rendelt Edomba, hogy Edom Dávidnak szolgáljon. Így segítette az Úr Dávidot mindenütt, ahova ment.
14 So David reigned over all Israel, and executed judgment and justice among all his people.	14 Dávid volt tehát egész Izrael királya s ő szolgáltatott törvényt és igazságot egész népének.
15 And Joab the son Zeruiah was over the host; and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud, recorder.	15 Joáb, Száruja fia volt a sereg fővezére, Jozafát, Áhilud fia a jegyző,
16 And Zadok the son of Ahitub, and Abimelech the son of Abiathar, were the priests; and Shavsha was scribe;	16 Szádok, Ahitób fia és Ahimelek, Abjatár fia a papok, Súsa az íródeák,
17 And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and the sons of David were chief about the king.	17 Benája, Jojáda fia a keretiek és feletiek légióinak vezére, Dávid fiai pedig az elsők voltak a király keze körül.
