1 After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.	1 Passate che furono queste cose, il Signore parlò in visione ad Abramo, dicendo: Non temere, o Abramo: io sono il tuo protettore, e tua ricompensa grande oltremodo.
2 And Abram said, Lord GOD, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus?	2 E Abramo disse: Signore Dio, che mi darai tu? io me n'andrò senza figliuoli: e il figliuolo del mio maestro di casa, questo Eliezer di Damasco.
3 And Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir.	3 E soggiunse Abramo: Ma a me tu non hai dato figliuolo: ed ecco che questo schiavo nato in mia casa sarà mio erede.
4 And, behold, the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir.	4 E tosto il Signore gli parlò, e disse: Questi non sarà tuo erede; ma quello che da' lombi tuoi uscirà, lui avrai tuo erede.
5 And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.	5 E lo condusse fuora, e gli disse: Mira il cielo, e conta, se puoi, le stelle. E così (dissegli) sarà la tua discendenza.
6 And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness.	6 Abramo credette a Dio, e fugli imputato a giustizia.
7 And he said unto him, I am the LORD that brought thee out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give thee this land to inherit it.	7 E il Signore gli disse: Io sono il Signore che ti trassi da Ur de' Chaldei, per dare a te questo paese, e perché tu lo possegga.
8 And he said, Lord GOD, whereby shall I know that I shall inherit it?	8 Ma quegli disse: Signore Dio, donde posso io conoscere, ch'io sia per possederlo?
9 And he said unto him, Take me an heifer of three years old, and a she goat of three years old, and a ram of three years old, and a turtledove, and a young pigeon.	9 E il Signore rispose: Prendimi una vacca di tre anni, e una capra di tre anni, e un ariete di tre anni, e una tortora, e una colomba.
10 And he took unto him all these, and divided them in the midst, and laid each piece one against another: but the birds divided he not.	10 Ed egli prese tutte queste cose, le divise per mezzo, e le parti pose l'una dirimpetto all'altra; ma non divise i volatili.
11 And when the fowls came down upon the carcases, Abram drove them away.	11 E calavano uccelli sopra le bestie morte, e Abramo li cacciava.
12 And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and, lo, an horror of great darkness fell upon him.	12 E sul tramontare del sole, Abramo fu preso da profondo sonno, e lo invase un orror grande, e oscurità.
13 And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;	13 E fugli detto: Tu dèi fin d'adesso sapere, che la tua stirpe sarà pellegrina in una terra non sua, e li porranno in ischiavitù, e gli strazieranno per quattrocent'anni.
14 And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance.	14 Ma io farò giudizio della nazione, di cui saranno stati servi: e dipoi se ne partiranno con grandi ricchezze.
15 And thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age.	15 Ma tu andrai a trovare i padri tuoi, sepolto in pace in prospera vecchiezza.
16 But in the fourth generation they shall come hither again: for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.	16 E alla quarta generazione (i tuoi) torneranno qua: imperocché fino al tempo presente non sono ancora compiute le iniquità degli Amorrhei.
17 And it came to pass, that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold a smoking furnace, and a burning lamp that passed between those pieces.	17 Tramontato poi che fu il sole, si fece una caligine tenebrosa, e apparve una fornace fumante, e una lampana ardente, che passava per mezzo agli animali divisi.
18 In the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates:	18 In quel giorno il Signore fermò l'alleanza con Abramo, dicendo: Al tuo seme darò io questa terra dal fiume d'Egitto sino al gran fiume Eufrate.
19 The Kenites, and the Kenizzites, and the Kadmonites,	19 I Cinei, e i Cenezei, e i Cedmonei,
20 And the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Rephaims,	20 E gli Hethei, e i Pherezei, e anche i Raphaimi,
21 And the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.	21 E gli Amorrhei, e i Chananei e i Gergesei, e i Jebusei.
