1 And David said in his heart: I shall gone day or other fall into the hands of Saul: is it not better for me to flee, and to be saved in the land of the Philistines, that Saul may despair of me, and cease to seek me in all the coasts of Israel? I will flee then out of his hands.	1 David disse nel suo cuore: «Ormai io verrò tolto di mezzo, un giorno o l’altro, per mano di Saul. Non mi resta altro che fuggire nella terra dei Filistei, così che Saul si perda d’animo e cessi di cercarmi più oltre per tutti i confini di Israele: così gli sfuggirò d mano».
2 And David arose and went away, both he and the six hundred men that were with him, to Achis the son of Maoch, king of Geth.	2 David dunque si alzò e passò, lui e i seicento uomini che eran con lui, ad Achish figlio di Maoch, re di Gat.
3 And David dwelt with Achis at Geth, he and his men: every man with his household, and David with his two wives, Achinoam the Jezrahelitess, and Abigail the wife of Nabal of Carmel.	3 David dimorò con Achish a Gat, lui e i suoi uomini, ciascuno con la famiglia, David con le due mogli Akhinoam la Jizreelita e Abigail moglie di Nabal, la Charmelita.
4 And it was told Saul that David was fled to Geth, and he sought no more after him.	4 Quando Saul fu informato che David era fuggito a Gat, cessò di inseguirlo.
5 And David said to Achis: If I have found favour in thy sight, let a place be given me in one of the cities of this country, that I may dwell there: for why should thy servant dwell in the royal city with thee?	5 Ma David disse ad Achish: «Se ho trovato grazia ai tuoi occhi, mi si assegni un posto in una delle città di campagna, perché vorrei insediarmi là; infatti, perché il tuo servitore deve abitare nella capitale del regno con te?»
6 Then Achis gave him Siceleg that day: for which reason Siceleg belongeth to the kings of Juda unto this day.	6 Achish allora quello stesso giorno gli assegnò Ziklag; perciò Ziklag è stata dei re di Giuda fino a oggi.
7 And the time that David dwelt in the country of the Philistines, was four months.	7 Il numero dei giorni in cui David dimorò nella campagna dei Filistei fu un anno e quattro mesi.
8 And David and his men went up, and pillaged Gessuri, and Gerzi, and the Amalecites: for these were of old the inhabitants of the countries, as men go to Sur, even to the land of Egypt.	8 David saliva con i suoi uomini e faceva razzie tra i Gesurei, i Girziti e gli Amaleciti: appunto quelle popolazioni abitavano il territorio che da Telam va fino presso Shur e alla terra d’Egitto.
9 And David wasted all the land, and left neither man nor woman alive: and took away the sheep and the oxen, and the asses, and the camels, and the apparel, and returned and came to Achis.	9 David dunque batteva continuamente quella regione e non lasciava vivere né uomini né donne: prendeva bestiame minuto e grosso, asini, cammelli e vesti che, al ritorno, portava ad Achish.
10 And Achis said to him: Whom hast thou gone against to day? David answered: Against the south of Juda, and against the south of Jerameel, and against the south of Ceni.	10 Ad Achish poi che chiedeva: «Da chi siete andati a fare razzia oggi?», David rispondeva: «Al Negheb di Giuda, al Negheb degli Jerakhmeeliti, al Negheb dei Keniti».
11 And David saved neither man nor woman, neither brought he any of them to Geth, saying: Lest they should speak against us. So did David, and such was his proceeding all the days that he dwelt in the country of the Philistines.	11 David non lasciava vivi da portare a Gat né uomini né donne, perché diceva: «Non avessero a riferire contro di noi!» Così agì David e questa fu la sua condotta durante tutto il tempo che passò nella campagna dei Filistei.
12 And Achis believed David, saying: He hath done much harm to his people Israel: therefore he shall be my servant for ever.	12 Achish pose in David molta fiducia, pensando: «Certo si è attirato l’odio di Israele suo popolo; perciò dovrà essere per sempre mio servitore!»
