DOUAI-RHEIMSNEW JERUSALEM
Amen, amen I say to you: He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up another way, the same is a thief and a robber.1 'In al truth I tel you, anyone who does not enter the sheepfold through the gate, but climbs in someother way, is a thief and a bandit.
But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.2 He who enters through the gate is the shepherd of the flock;
To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.3 the gatekeeper lets him in, the sheep hear his voice, one by one he calls his own sheep and leadsthem out.
And when he hath let out his own sheep, he goeth before them: and the sheep follow him, because they know his voice.4 When he has brought out al those that are his, he goes ahead of them, and the sheep fol ow becausethey know his voice.
But a stranger they follow not, but fly from him, because they know not the voice of strangers.5 They wil never fol ow a stranger, but wil run away from him because they do not recognise the voiceof strangers.'
This proverb Jesus spoke to them. But they understood not what he spoke to them.6 Jesus told them this parable but they failed to understand what he was saying to them.
Jesus therefore said to them again: Amen, amen I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.7 So Jesus spoke to them again: In all truth I tell you, I am the gate of the sheepfold.
All others, as many as have come, are thieves and robbers: and the sheep heard them not.8 Al who have come before me are thieves and bandits, but the sheep took no notice of them.
I am the door. By me, if any man enter in, he shall be saved: and he shall go in, and go out, and shall find pastures.9 I am the gate. Anyone who enters through me will be safe: such a one will go in and out and wil findpasture.
The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I am come that they may have life, and may have it more abundantly.10 The thief comes only to steal and kil and destroy. I have come so that they may have life and have itto the full.
I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd giveth his life for his sheep.11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd lays down his life for his sheep.
But the hireling, and he that is not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and flieth: and the wolf catcheth, and scattereth the sheep:12 The hired man, since he is not the shepherd and the sheep do not belong to him, abandons thesheep as soon as he sees a wolf coming, and runs away, and then the wolf attacks and scatters the sheep;
And the hireling flieth, because he is a hireling: and he hath no care for the sheep.13 he runs away because he is only a hired man and has no concern for the sheep.
I am the good shepherd; and I know mine, and mine know me.14 I am the good shepherd; I know my own and my own know me,
As the Father knoweth me, and I know the Father: and I lay down my life for my sheep.15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for my sheep.
And other sheep I have, that are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice, and there shall be one fold and one shepherd.16 And there are other sheep I have that are not of this fold, and I must lead these too. They too willlisten to my voice, and there wil be only one flock, one shepherd.
Therefore doth the Father love me: because I lay down my life, that I may take it again.17 The Father loves me, because I lay down my life in order to take it up again.
No man taketh it away from me: but I lay it down of myself, and I have power to lay it down: and I have power to take it up again. This commandment have I received of my Father.18 No one takes it from me; I lay it down of my own free wil , and as I have power to lay it down, so Ihave power to take it up again; and this is the command I have received from my Father.
A dissension rose again among the Jews for these words.19 These words caused a fresh division among the Jews.
And many of them said: He hath a devil, and is mad: why hear you him?20 Many said, 'He is possessed, he is raving; why do you listen to him?'
Others said: These are not the words of one that hath a devil: Can a devil open the eyes of the blind?21 Others said, 'These are not the words of a man possessed by a devil: could a devil open the eyes ofthe blind?'
And it was the feast of the dedication at Jerusalem: and it was winter.22 It was the time of the feast of Dedication in Jerusalem. It was winter,
And Jesus walked in the temple, in Solomon's porch.23 and Jesus was in the Temple walking up and down in the Portico of Solomon.
The Jews therefore came round about him, and said to him: How long dost thou hold our souls in suspense? If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly.24 The Jews gathered round him and said, 'How much longer are you going to keep us in suspense? Ifyou are the Christ, tel us openly.'
Jesus answered them: I speak to you, and you believe not: the works that I do in the name of my Father, they give testimony of me.25 Jesus replied: I have told you, but you do not believe. The works I do in my Father's name are mywitness;
But you do not believe, because you are not of my sheep.26 but you do not believe, because you are no sheep of mine.
My sheep hear my voice: and I know them, and they follow me.27 The sheep that belong to me listen to my voice; I know them and they follow me.
And I give them life everlasting; and they shall not perish for ever, and no man shall pluck them out of my hand.28 I give them eternal life; they will never be lost and no one wil ever steal them from my hand.
That which my Father hath given me, is greater than all: and no one can snatch them out of the hand of my Father.29 The Father, for what he has given me, is greater than anyone, and no one can steal anything fromthe Father's hand.
I and the Father are one.30 The Father and I are one.
The Jews then took up stones to stone him.31 The Jews fetched stones to stone him,
Jesus answered them: Many good works I have shewed you from my Father; for which of these works do you stone me?32 so Jesus said to them, 'I have shown you many good works from my Father; for which of these areyou stoning me?'
The Jews answered him: For a good work we stone thee not, but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, maketh thyself God.33 The Jews answered him, 'We are stoning you, not for doing a good work, but for blasphemy; thoughyou are only a man, you claim to be God.'
Jesus answered them: Is it not written in your law: I said you are gods?34 Jesus answered: Is it not written in your Law: I said, you are gods?
If he called them gods, to whom to word of God was spoken, and the scripture cannot be broken;35 So it uses the word 'gods' of those people to whom the word of God was addressed -- and scripturecannot be set aside.
Do you say of him whom the Father hath sanctified and sent into the world: Thou blasphemest, because I said, I am the Son of God?36 Yet to someone whom the Father has consecrated and sent into the world you say, 'You areblaspheming' because I said, 'I am Son of God.'
If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not.37 If I am not doing my Father's work, there is no need to believe me;
But if I do, though you will not believe me, believe the works: that you may know and believe that the Father is in me, and I in the Father.38 but if I am doing it, then even if you refuse to believe in me, at least believe in the work I do; then youwil know for certain that the Father is in me and I am in the Father.
They sought therefore to take him; and he escaped out of their hands.39 They again wanted to arrest him then, but he eluded their clutches.
And he went again beyond the Jordan, into that place where John was baptizing first; and there he abode.40 He went back again to the far side of the Jordan to the district where John had been baptising at firstand he stayed there.
And many resorted to him, and they said: John indeed did no sign.41 Many people who came to him said, 'John gave no signs, but all he said about this man was true';
But all things whatsoever John said of this man, were true. And many believed in him.42 and many of them believed in him.
