Isaiah 6

In the year that king Ozias died, I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne high and elevated: and his train filled the temple.1 Im Todesjahr des Königs Ussia sah ich den Herrn. Er saß auf einem hohen und erhabenen Throne, seines Gewandes Schleppen füllten den Tempel.
Upon it stood the seraphims: the one had six wings, and the other had six wings: with two they covered his face, and with two they covered his feet, and with two they hew.2 Über ihm schwebten Seraphim; sechs Flügel hatte ein jeder; mit zweien verhüllte er sein Angesicht, mit zweien bedeckte er seine Füße, und mit zweien flog er.
And they cried one to another, and said: Holy, holy, holy, the Lord God of hosts, all the earth is full of his glory.3 Einer rief dem andern zu und sprach: "Heilig, heilig, heilig ist der Herr der Heerscharen, die Fülle der ganzen Erde ist seine Herrlichkeit."
And the lintels of the doors were moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke.4 Vor der Stimme des Rufenden erbebten die Pfosten der Türschwellen, und der Tempelraum füllte sich mit Rauch.
And I said: Woe is me, because I have held my peace; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people that hath unclean lips, and I have seen with my eyes the King the Lord of hosts.5 Da sprach ich: "Wehe mir, ich bin verloren; denn ein Mann mit unreinen Lippen bin ich und wohne unter einem Volke mit unreinen Lippen! Denn den König, den Herrn der Heerscharen, haben meine Augen gesehen."
And one of the seraphims flew to me, and in his hand was a live coal, which he had taken with the tongs off the altar.6 Da flog zu mir einer der Seraphim heran, in seiner Hand einen glühenden Stein, den er mit einer Zange vom Altar genommen hatte.
And he touched my mouth, and said: Behold this hath touched thy lips, and thy iniquities shall be taken away, and thy sin shall be cleansed.7 Mit ihm berührte er meinen Mund und sprach: "Siehe, dies hat deine Lippen berührt, gewichen ist deine Schuld, deine Sünde gesühnt."
And I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: Whom shall I send? and who shall go for us? And I said: Lo, here am I, send me.8 Und ich hörte die Stimme des Herrn, der da sprach: "Wen soll ich senden, wer wird für uns gehen?" Und ich erwiderte: "Hier bin ich, sende mich!"
And he said: Go, and thou shalt say to this people: Hearing, hear, and understand not: and see the vision, and know it not.9 Und er sprach: "Geh und rede zu diesem Volke da: Höret, höret, aber versteht es nicht; sehet, sehet, aber erkennt es nicht!
Blind the heart of this people, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes: lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and be converted and I heal them.10 Mache das Herz dieses Volkes verstockt, seine Ohren verhärtet und seine Augen verblendet, daß es mit seinen Augen nicht sehe und mit seinen Ohren nicht höre, sein Herz nicht zur Einsicht komme und es wieder Heilung finde!"
And I said: How long, O Lord? And he said: Until the cities be wasted without inhabitant, and the houses without man, and the land shall be left desolate.11 Ich erwiderte: "Wie lange, o Herr?" Er sprach: "Bis daß die Städte verödet sind, ohne Bewohner, die Häuser menschenleer, und das Ackerland öde liegt als Wüste.
And the Lord shall remove men far away, and she shall be multiplied that was left in the midst of the earth.12 Der Herr wird die Menschen entfernen; groß wird die Verlassenheit sein inmitten des Landes.
And there shall be still a tithing therein, and she shall turn, and shall be made a show as a turpentine tree, and as an oak that spreadeth its branches: that which shall stand therein, shall be a holy seed.13 Und bleibt darin noch ein Zehntel übrig, so verfällt auch dies wieder der Vertilgung, einer Eiche und Terebinthe gleich, von denen beim Fällen nur ein Stumpf bleibt. Heiliger Same ist sein Stumpf."
