¹ Speak not any thing rashly, and let not thy heart be hasty to utter a word before God. For God is in heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few.	¹ Não te apresses em abrir a boca, nem o teu coração não se apresse em proferir palavras diante de Deus, porque Deus está no céu, e tu na terra. Por isso, sejam pouco numerosas as tuas palavras!
² Dreams follow many cares: and in many words shall be found folly.	² Porque muitas ocupações geram sonhos, e a torrente de palavras faz nascer resoluções insensatas.
³ If thou hast vowed any thing to God, defer not to pay it: for an unfaithful and foolish promise displeaseth him: but whatsoever thou hast vowed, pay it.	³ Quando fizeres um voto a Deus, realiza-o sem delonga, porque aos insensatos Deus não é favorável. Portanto, cumpre teu voto!
⁴ And it is much better not to vow, than after a vow not to perform the things promised.	⁴ Mais vale não fazer voto, que prometer e não ser fiel à promessa.
⁵ Give not thy mouth to cause thy flesh to sin: and say not before the angel: There is no providence: lest God be angry at thy words, and destroy all the works of thy hands.	⁵ Não permitas à tua boca fazer pecar a tua carne, nem digas ao sacerdote que isso foi apenas uma inadvertência, para não suceder que Deus se irrite com essas palavras e reduza a nada tua empresa.
⁶ Where there are many dreams, there are many vanities, and words without number: but do thou fear God.	⁶ Porque muitos cuidados geram sonhos, e a torrente de palavras, despropósitos. Assim, pois, teme a Deus!
⁷ If thou shalt see the oppressions of the poor, and violent judgments, and justice perverted in the province, wonder not at this matter: for he that is high hath another higher, and there are others still higher than these:	⁷ Se vires, na província, a opressão do pobre e a violação do direito e da justiça, não te admires, porque o que é grande é observado por outro maior e ambos por maiores ainda.
⁸ Moreover there is the king that reigneth over all the land subject to him.	⁸ Sob todos os pontos de vista, uma vantagem para uma nação é se o rei se ocupa com a terra cultivada.
⁹ A covetous man shall not be satisfied with money: and he that loveth riches shall reap no fruit from them: so this also is vanity.	⁹ Quem ama o dinheiro nunca se fartará. Quem ama a riqueza não tira dela proveito. Também isso é fugalidade.
¹⁰ Where there are great riches, there are also many to eat them. And what doth it profit the owner, but that he seeth the riches with his eyes?	¹⁰ Quando abundam os bens, numerosos são aqueles que comem. Que vantagem há para os seus possuidores, senão ver como se comportam?
¹¹ Sleep is sweet to a labouring man, whether he eat lttle or much: but the fulness of the rich will not suffer him to sleep.	¹¹ Doce é o sono do trabalhador, tenha ele pouco ou muito para comer; mas a abundância do rico o impede de dormir.
¹² There is also another grievous evil, which I have seen under the sun: riches kept to the hurt of the owner.	¹² Vi uma dolorosa miséria debaixo do sol: as riquezas que um possuidor guarda para sua própria desgraça.
¹³ For they are lost with very great affliction: he hath begotten a son, who shall be in extremity of want.	¹³ Caso essas riquezas venham a se perder em consequência de algum desagradável acontecimento, se ele tiver um filho, nada lhe restará na sua mão.
¹⁴ As he came forth naked from his mother's womb, so shall he return, and shall take nothing away with him of his labour.	¹⁴ Nu saiu ele do ventre de sua mãe, assim nu voltará. De seu trabalho nada receberá que possa levar em suas mãos.
¹⁵ A most deplorable evil: as he came, so shall he return. What then doth it profit him that he hath laboured for the wind?	¹⁵ Sim, é uma dolorosa miséria que ele se vá assim como veio. Que vantagem terá ele por ter trabalhado para o vento?
¹⁶ All the days of his life he eateth in darkness, and in many cares, and in misery, and sorrow.	¹⁶ Todos os seus dias foram consumidos numa sombria dor, em extrema amargura, no sofrimento e na irritação.
¹⁷ This therefore hath seemed good to me, that a man should eat and drink, and enjoy the fruit of his labour, wherewith he hath laboured under the sun, all the days of his life, which God hath given him: and this is his portion.	¹⁷ Eis o que reconheci ser bom: que é conveniente ao homem comer, beber, gozar de bem-estar em todo o trabalho ao qual ele se dedica debaixo do sol, durante todos os dias de vida que Deus lhe der. Esta é a sua parte.
¹⁸ And every man to whom God hath given riches, and substance, and hath given him power to eat thereof, and to enjoy his portion, and to rejoice of his labour: this is the gift of God.	¹⁸ Se Deus dá ao homem bens e riquezas, e lhe concede delas comer e delas tomar sua parte, e se alegrar no seu trabalho, isso é um dom de Deus.
¹⁹ For he shall not much remember the days of his life, because God entertaineth his heart with delight,	¹⁹ Ele não pensa no número dos dias de sua vida, quando Deus derrama em seu coração a alegria.
