1 Speak not any thing rashly, and let not thy heart be hasty to utter a word before God. For God is in heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few.	1 Não te apresses em abrir a boca, nem o teu coração não se apresse em proferir palavras diante de Deus, porque Deus está no céu, e tu na terra. Por isso, sejam pouco numerosas as tuas palavras!
2 Dreams follow many cares: and in many words shall be found folly.	2 Porque muitas ocupações geram sonhos, e a torrente de palavras faz nascer resoluções insensatas.
3 If thou hast vowed any thing to God, defer not to pay it: for an unfaithful and foolish promise displeaseth him: but whatsoever thou hast vowed, pay it.	3 Quando fizeres um voto a Deus, rea­liza-o sem delonga, porque aos insensatos Deus não é favorável. Portanto, cumpre teu voto!
4 And it is much better not to vow, than after a vow not to perform the things promised.	4 Mais vale não fazer voto, que prometer e não ser fiel à promessa.
5 Give not thy mouth to cause thy flesh to sin: and say not before the angel: There is no providence: lest God be angry at thy words, and destroy all the works of thy hands.	5 Não permitas à tua boca fazer pecar a tua carne, nem digas ao sacerdote que isso foi apenas uma inadvertência, para não suceder que Deus se irrite com essas palavras e reduza a nada tua empresa.
6 Where there are many dreams, there are many vanities, and words without number: but do thou fear God.	6 Porque muitos cuidados geram sonhos, e a torrente de palavras, despropósitos. Assim, pois, teme a Deus!
7 If thou shalt see the oppressions of the poor, and violent judgments, and justice perverted in the province, wonder not at this matter: for he that is high hath another higher, and there are others still higher than these:	7 Se vires, na província, a opressão do pobre e a violação do direito e da justiça, não te admires, porque o que é grande é observado por outro maior e ambos por maiores ainda.
8 Moreover there is the king that reigneth over all the land subject to him.	8 Sob todos os pontos de vista, uma vantagem para uma nação é se o rei se ocupa com a terra cultivada.
9 A covetous man shall not be satisfied with money: and he that loveth riches shall reap no fruit from them: so this also is vanity.	9 Quem ama o dinheiro nunca se fartará. Quem ama a riqueza não tira dela proveito. Também isso é fugalidade.
10 Where there are great riches, there are also many to eat them. And what doth it profit the owner, but that he seeth the riches with his eyes?	10 Quando abundam os bens, numerosos são aqueles que comem. Que vantagem há para os seus possuidores, senão ver como se comportam?
11 Sleep is sweet to a labouring man, whether he eat lttle or much: but the fulness of the rich will not suffer him to sleep.	11 Doce é o sono do trabalhador, tenha ele pouco ou muito para comer; mas a abundância do rico o impede de dormir.
12 There is also another grievous evil, which I have seen under the sun: riches kept to the hurt of the owner.	12 Vi uma dolorosa miséria debaixo do sol: as riquezas que um possuidor guarda para sua própria desgraça.
13 For they are lost with very great affliction: he hath begotten a son, who shall be in extremity of want.	13 Caso essas riquezas venham a se perder em consequência de algum desagradável acontecimento, se ele tiver um filho, nada lhe restará na sua mão.
14 As he came forth naked from his mother's womb, so shall he return, and shall take nothing away with him of his labour.	14 Nu saiu ele do ventre de sua mãe, assim nu voltará. De seu trabalho nada receberá que possa levar em suas mãos.
15 A most deplorable evil: as he came, so shall he return. What then doth it profit him that he hath laboured for the wind?	15 Sim, é uma dolorosa miséria que ele se vá assim como veio. Que vantagem terá ele por ter trabalhado para o vento?
16 All the days of his life he eateth in darkness, and in many cares, and in misery, and sorrow.	16 Todos os seus dias foram consumidos numa sombria dor, em extrema amargura, no sofrimento e na irritação.
17 This therefore hath seemed good to me, that a man should eat and drink, and enjoy the fruit of his labour, wherewith he hath laboured under the sun, all the days of his life, which God hath given him: and this is his portion.	17 Eis o que reconheci ser bom: que é conveniente ao homem comer, beber, gozar de bem-estar em todo o trabalho ao qual ele se dedica debaixo do sol, durante todos os dias de vida que Deus lhe der. Esta é a sua parte.
18 And every man to whom God hath given riches, and substance, and hath given him power to eat thereof, and to enjoy his portion, and to rejoice of his labour: this is the gift of God.	18 Se Deus dá ao homem bens e riquezas, e lhe concede delas comer e delas tomar sua parte, e se alegrar no seu trabalho, isso é um dom de Deus.
19 For he shall not much remember the days of his life, because God entertaineth his heart with delight,	19 Ele não pensa no número dos dias de sua vida, quando Deus derrama em seu coração a alegria.
