¹ Job also added, taking up his parable, and said:	¹ І повів Іов далі свою мову і сказав:
² Who will grant me, that I might be according to the months past, according to the days in which God kept me?	² «О, коли б я був такий, як за місяців колишніх, \| як за тих днів, коли Бог мене хоронив був,
³ When his lamp shined over my head, and I walked by his light in darkness?	³ коли над головою в мене сяяв його світич, \| коли при його світлі я ходив у пітьмі!
⁴ As I was in the days of my youth, when God was secretly in my tabernacle?	⁴ Такий, як за днів осени моєї, \| коли Бог вітав над моїм наметом,
⁵ When the Almighty was with me: and my servants round about me?	⁵ коли Всевишній був іще зо мною \| і круг мене були мої діти;
⁶ When I washed my feet with butter, and the rock poured me out rivers of oil?	⁶ коли у молоці купались мої ноги, \| і скеля точила потоками олію!
⁷ When I went out to the gate of the city, and in the street they prepared me a chair?	⁷ Як я, було, виходив до брами в місті, \| встановлював мій ослін на майдані,
⁸ The young men saw me, and hid themselves: and the old men rose up and stood.	⁸ хлопці, зобачивши мене, ніяковіли, \| старі ж уставали — і залишалися стояти.
⁹ The princes ceased to speak, and laid the finger on their mouth.	⁹ Вельможі стримувались від розмови, \| на уста клали собі руку.
¹⁰ The rulers held their peace, and their tongue cleaved to their throat.	¹⁰ І голос старшин тихнув, \| язик їхній прилипав до піднебіння.
¹¹ The ear that heard me blessed me, and the eye that saw me gave witness to me:	¹¹ Вухо, що мене чуло, мене хвалило; \| око, що мене бачило, свідчило про мене.
¹² Because I had delivered the poor man that cried out; and the fatherless that had no helper.	¹² Я бо рятував убогого, що кликав, \| і сироту, й того, кому ніхто не допомагає.
¹³ The blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon me, and I comforted the heart of the widow.	¹³ Хто гинув, того благословення сходило на мене, \| і серцю вдовиці я давав відраду.
¹⁴ I was clad with justice: and I clothed myself with my judgment, as with a robe and a diadem.	¹⁴ Я одягавсь у справедливість, і вона вдягалась у мене; \| право моє було, мов мантія і корона.
¹⁵ I was an eye to the blind, and a foot to the lame.	¹⁵ Я був сліпому оком, \| кульгавому я був ногами!
¹⁶ I was the father of the poor: and the cause which I knew not, I searched out most diligently.	¹⁶ Я батьком був для вбогих, \| я розглядав невідомого справу.
¹⁷ I broke the jaws of the wicked man, and out of his teeth I took away the prey.	¹⁷ Я торощив щелепи злому, \| з зубів у нього виривав здобич.
¹⁸ And I said: I shall die in my nest, and as a palm tree shall multiply my days.	¹⁸ Я думав собі: Умру старим! \| Днів моїх, як піску, буде багато.
¹⁹ My root is opened beside the waters, and dew shall continue in my harvest.	¹⁹ Мій корінь буде при воді відкритий, \| роса у мене на галуззі заночує.
²⁰ My glory shall always be renewed, and my bow in my hand shall be repaired.	²⁰ Слава моя завжди буде відновлятись, \| лук мій зміцніє в руці у мене.
²¹ They that heard me, waited for my sentence, and being attentive held their peace at my counsel.	²¹ Вони мене слухали уважно \| — замовкали, коли я їм радив.
²² To my words they durst add nothing, and my speech dropped upon them.	²² По моїй мові не говорили більше, \| — крапля по краплі спадало на них моє слово.
²³ They waited for me as for rain, and they opened their mouth as for a latter shower.	²³ Вони, мов на дощ, на мене чекали, \| і розтуляли рот свій, мов на дощ пізній.
²⁴ If at any time I laughed on them, they believed not, and the light of my countenance fell not on earth.	²⁴ Усміхнусь, було, до них, коли вони зневіряться, \| — веселости з мого обличчя не проганяли.
²⁵ If I had a mind to go to them, I sat first, and when I sat as a king, with his army standing about him, yet I was a comforter of them that mourned.	²⁵ Я призначав дорогу їм, я був їм головою. \| Я жив, неначе цар при війську; \| куди б я їх тільки вів, — ішли за мною.»
