1 Después de esto, Jesús recorría la Galilea; no quería transitar por Judea porque los judíos intentaban matarlo.	1 Then, after these things, Jesus was walking in Galilee. For he was not willing to walk in Judea, because the Jews were seeking to kill him.
2 Se acercaba la fiesta judía de las Chozas,	2 Now the feast day of the Jews, the Feast of Tabernacles, was near.
3 y sus hermanos le dijeron: «No te quedes aquí; ve a Judea, para que también tus discípulos de allí vean las obras que haces.	3 And his brothers said to him: “Move away from here and go into Judea, so that your disciples there may also see your works that you do.
4 Cuando uno quiere hacerse conocer, no actúa en secreto; ya que tú haces estas cosas, manifiéstate al mundo».	4 Of course, no one does anything in secret, but he himself seeks to be in the public view. Since you do these things, manifest yourself to the world.”
5 Efectivamente, ni sus propios hermanos creían en él.	5 For neither did his brothers believe in him.
6 Jesús les dijo: «Mi tiempo no ha llegado todavía, mientras que para ustedes cualquier tiempo es bueno.	6 Therefore, Jesus said to them: “My time has not yet come; but your time is always at hand.
7 El mundo no tiene por qué odiarlos a ustedes; me odia a mí, porque atestiguo contra él que sus obras son malas.	7 The world cannot hate you. But it hates me, because I offer testimony about it, that its works are evil.
8 Suban ustedes para la fiesta. Yo no subo a esa fiesta, porque mi tiempo no se ha cumplido todavía».	8 You may go up to this feast day. But I am not going up to this feast day, because my time has not yet been fulfilled.”
9 Después de decirles esto, permaneció en Galilea.	9 When he had said these things, he himself remained in Galilee.
10 Sin embargo, cuando sus hermanos subieron para la fiesta, también él subió, pero en secreto, sin hacerse ver.	10 But after his brothers went up, then he also went up to the feast day, not openly, but as if in secret.
11 Los judíos lo buscaban durante la fiesta y decían: «¿Dónde está ese?».	11 Therefore, the Jews were seeking him on the feast day, and they were saying, “Where is he?”
12 Jesús era el comentario de la multitud. Unos opinaban: «Es un hombre de bien». Otros, en cambio, decían: «No, engaña al pueblo».	12 And there was much murmuring in the crowd concerning him. For certain ones were saying, “He is good.” But others were saying, “No, for he seduces the crowds.”
13 Sin embargo, nadie hablaba de él abiertamente, por temor a los judíos.	13 Yet no one was speaking openly about him, out of fear of the Jews.
14 Promediaba ya la celebración de la fiesta, cuando Jesús subió al Templo y comenzó a enseñar.	14 Then, about the middle of the feast, Jesus ascended into the temple, and he was teaching.
15 Los judíos, admirados, decían: «¿Cómo conoce las Escrituras sin haber estudiado?».	15 And the Jews wondered, saying: “How does this one know letters, though he has not been taught?”
16 Jesús les respondió: «Mi enseñanza no es mía sino de aquel que me envió.	16 Jesus responded to them and said: “My doctrine is not of me, but of him who sent me.
17 El que quiere hacer la voluntad de Dios conocerá si esta enseñanza es de Dios o si yo hablo por mi cuenta.	17 If anyone has chosen to do his will, then he will realize, about the doctrine, whether it is from God, or whether I am speaking from myself.
18 El que habla por su cuenta busca su propia gloria, pero el que busca la gloria de aquel que lo envió, ese dice la verdad y no hay nada de falso en él.	18 Whoever speaks from himself seeks his own glory. But whoever seeks the glory of him who sent him, this one is true, and injustice is not in him.
19 ¿Acaso Moisés no les dio la Ley? Pero ninguno de ustedes la cumple. ¿Por qué quieren matarme?».	19 Did not Moses give you the law? And yet not one among you keeps the law!
20 La multitud respondió: «Estás poseído por el demonio: ¿quién quiere matarte?».	20 Why are you seeking to kill me?” The crowd responded and said: “You must have a demon. Who is seeking to kill you?”
21 Jesús continuó: «Por una sola obra que realicé, ustedes están maravillados.	21 Jesus responded and said to them: “One work have I done, and you all wonder.
22 Moisés les dio la circuncisión –aunque ella no viene de Moisés, sino de los patriarcas– y ustedes la practican también en sábado.	22 For Moses gave you circumcision, (not that it is of Moses, but of the fathers) and on the Sabbath you circumcise a man.
23 Si se circuncida a un hombre en sábado para no quebrantar la Ley de Moisés, ¿cómo ustedes se enojan conmigo porque he curado completamente a un hombre en sábado?	23 If a man can receive circumcision on the Sabbath, so that the law of Moses may not be broken, why are you indignant toward me, because I have made a man whole on the Sabbath?
24 No juzguen según las apariencias, sino conforme a la justicia».	24 Do not judge according to appearances, but instead judge a just judgment.”
25 Algunos de Jerusalén decían: «¿No es este aquel a quien querían matar?	25 Therefore, some of those from Jerusalem said: “Is he not the one whom they are seeking to kill?
26 ¡Y miren como habla abiertamente y nadie le dice nada! ¿Habrán reconocido las autoridades que es verdaderamente el Mesías?	26 And behold, he is speaking openly, and they say nothing to him. Could the leaders have decided that it is true this one is the Christ?
27 Pero nosotros sabemos de dónde es este; en cambio, cuando venga el Mesías, nadie sabrá de dónde es».	27 But we know him and where he is from. And when the Christ has arrived, no one will know where he is from.”
28 Entonces Jesús, que enseñaba en el Templo, exclamó: «¿Así que ustedes me conocen y saben de dónde soy? Sin embargo, yo no vine por mi propia cuenta; pero el que me envió dice la verdad, y ustedes no lo conocen.	28 Therefore, Jesus cried out in the temple, teaching and saying: “You know me, and you also know where I am from. And I have not arrived of myself, but he who sent me is true, and him you do not know.
29 Yo sí lo conozco, porque vengo de él y es él el que me envió».	29 I know him. For I am from him, and he has sent me.”
30 Entonces quisieron detenerlo, pero nadie puso las manos sobre él, porque todavía no había llegado su hora.	30 Therefore, they were seeking to apprehend him, and yet no one laid hands on him, because his hour had not yet come.
31 Muchos de la multitud creyeron en él y decían: «Cuando venga el Mesías, ¿podrá hacer más signos de los que hace este hombre?».	31 But many among the crowd believed in him, and they were saying, “When the Christ arrives, will he perform more signs than this man does?”
32 Llegó a oídos de los fariseos lo que la gente comentaba de él, y enviaron guardias para detenerlo.	32 The Pharisees heard the crowd murmuring these things about him. And the leaders and the Pharisees sent attendants to apprehend him.
33 Después Jesús dijo: «Poco tiempo estaré aún con ustedes y me iré a aquel que me envió	33 Therefore, Jesus said to them: “For a brief time, I am still with you, and then I am going to him who sent me.
34 Me buscarán y no me encontrarán, porque allí donde yo estoy ustedes no pueden venir».	34 You shall seek me, and you will not find me. And where I am, you are not able to go.”
35 Los judíos comentaban entre ellos: «¿A dónde irá, para que no podamos encontrarlo? ¿Acaso irá a reunirse con los judíos dispersos entre los paganos, para enseñar a los paganos?	35 And so the Jews said among themselves: “Where is this place to which he will go, such that we will not find him? Will he go to those dispersed among the Gentiles and teach the Gentiles?
36 ¿Qué quiso decir con estas palabras: «Me buscarán y no me encontrarán, y allí donde yo estoy ustedes no pueden venir»?.	36 What is this word that he spoke, ‘You will seek me and you will not find me; and where I am, you are not able to go?’ ”
37 El último día, el más solemne de la fiesta, Jesús, poniéndose de pie, exclamó: «El que tenga sed, venga a mí; y beba	37 Then, on the last great day of the feast, Jesus was standing and crying out, saying: “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink:
38 el que cree en mí». Como dice la Escritura: "De su seno brotarán manantiales de agua viva".	38 whoever believes in me, just as Scripture says, ‘From his chest shall flow rivers of living water.’ ”
39 El se refería al Espíritu que debían recibir los que creyeran en él. Porque el Espíritu no había sido dado todavía, ya que Jesús aún no había sido glorificado.	39 Now he said this about the Spirit, which those who believe in him would soon be receiving. For the Spirit had not yet been given, because Jesus had not yet been glorified.
40 Algunos de la multitud que lo habían oído, opinaban: «Este es verdaderamente el Profeta».	40 Therefore, some from that crowd, when they had heard these words of his, were saying, “This one truly is the Prophet.”
41 Otros decían: «Este es el Mesías». Pero otros preguntaban: «¿Acaso el Mesías vendrá de Galilea?	41 Others were saying, “He is the Christ.” Yet certain ones were saying: “Does the Christ come from Galilee?
42 ¿No dice la Escritura que el Mesías vendrá del linaje de David y de Belén, el pueblo de donde era David?».	42 Does Scripture not say that the Christ comes from the offspring of David and from Bethlehem, the town where David was?”
43 Y por causa de él, se produjo una división entre la gente.	43 And so there arose a dissension among the multitude because of him.
44 Algunos querían detenerlo, pero nadie puso las manos sobre él.	44 Now certain ones among them wanted to apprehended him, but no one laid hands upon him.
45 Los guardias fueron a ver a los sumos sacerdotes y a los fariseos, y estos les preguntaron: «¿Por qué no lo trajeron?».	45 Therefore, the attendants went to the high priests and the Pharisees. And they said to them, “Why have you not brought him?”
46 Ellos respondieron: «Nadie habló jamás como este hombre».	46 The attendants responded, “Never has a man spoken like this man.”
47 Los fariseos respondieron: «¿También ustedes se dejaron engañar?	47 And so the Pharisees answered them: “Have you also been seduced?
48 ¿Acaso alguno de los jefes o de los fariseos ha creído en él?	48 Have any of the leaders believed in him, or any of the Pharisees?
49 En cambio, esa gente que no conoce la Ley está maldita».	49 But this crowd, which does not know the law, they are accursed.”
50 Nicodemo, uno de ellos, que había ido a ver a Jesús, les dijo:	50 Nicodemus, the one who came to him by night and who was one of them, said to them,
51 «¿Acaso nuestra Ley permite juzgar a un hombre sin escucharlo antes para saber lo que hizo?».	51 “Does our law judge a man, unless it has first heard him and has known what he has done?”
52 Le respondieron: «¿Tú también eres galileo? Examina las Escrituras y verás que de Galilea no surge ningún profeta».	52 They responded and said to him: “Are you also a Galilean? Study the Scriptures, and see that a prophet does not arise from Galilee.”
53 Y cada uno regresó a su casa.	53 And each one returned to his own house.
