1 Frères, parlons de cette venue du Seigneur Jésus Christ et de notre rassemblement autour de lui.	1 Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,
2 Nous vous supplions de ne pas perdre la tête si facilement et de ne pas vous affoler pour quelque manifestation de l’Esprit ou à cause d’une parole ou d’une lettre qu’on dit venir de nous, comme si le jour du Seigneur était imminent.	2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.
3 Ne vous laissez pas égarer, de quelque façon que ce soit. Il faudrait d’abord que se produise l’apostasie et que se manifeste celui qui refuse Dieu, l’instrument du mal,	3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
4 celui qui contredit et qui se met au-dessus de tout ce qu’on considère comme divin et sacré. Et il ira s’asseoir dans le Temple de Dieu pour montrer que Dieu, c’est lui.	4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
5 Ne vous rappelez-vous pas que je vous le disais quand j’étais avec vous?	5 Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?
6 Et maintenant vous savez ce qui le retient jusqu’au moment où il doit se faire connaître.	6 And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.
7 Ce soulèvement antireligieux travaille déjà en secret, mais il faut que disparaisse celui qui le retient.	7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.
8 Alors se fera connaître l’adversaire de la religion, que le Seigneur doit balayer de son souffle. Et il le jettera à terre quand lui aussi viendra et se montrera.	8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:
9 L’autre doit se présenter avec la puissance de Satan; il fera des miracles, des signes, et des prodiges de mensonge	9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,
10 pour égarer et pervertir ceux qui vont à leur perte, tous ceux chez qui l’amour de la vérité n’a pas trouvé place - et ils auraient été sauvés!	10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
11 C’est bien pourquoi Dieu leur adresse ces forces de mensonge, et ils croiront au mensonge.	11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
12 Ainsi seront punis ceux qui n’ont pas cru à la vérité parce que le mal leur plaisait.	12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
13 Mais pour vous, nous devons rendre sans cesse à Dieu des actions de grâces. Oui, frères bien-aimés du Seigneur, Dieu vous a choisis pour être les prémices de ceux qu’il sauve grâce à la vraie foi et à l’Esprit qui sanctifie.	13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:
14 Aussi vous a-t-il appelés par le moyen de notre Évangile pour que la gloire de Jésus Christ, notre Seigneur, devienne vôtre.	14 Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
15 Alors, frères, tenez bon et gardez fermement les traditions que nous vous avons enseignées de vive voix ou par lettre.	15 Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.
16 Et puis je fais appel à Jésus Christ notre Seigneur, et à Dieu notre Père qui nous a aimés et qui nous a donné le réconfort sans fin avec l’espérance qui ne trompe pas:	16 Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace,
17 il vous soutiendra avec bonté pour que vous restiez fermes dans le bien, dans vos paroles et dans vos actes.	17 Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.
