1 Écoutez la parole de Yahvé, fils d’Israël, car Yahvé est en procès avec les habitants du pays: il n’y a ni fidélité, ni bonté, ni connaissance de Dieu dans le pays.	1 Hear the word of the LORD, O people of Israel, for the LORD has a grievance against the inhabitants of the land: There is no fidelity, no mercy, no knowledge of God in the land.
2 On se parjure, on ment, on assassine et on vole, on commet l’adultère et on se livre à la violence; partout c’est le sang versé.	2 False swearing, lying, murder, stealing and adultery! in their lawlessness, bloodshed follows bloodshed.
3 Voilà pourquoi le pays est en deuil et tous ses habitants sont malades, jusqu’aux bêtes des champs et aux oiseaux du ciel, même les poissons de la mer disparaissent.	3 Therefore the land mourns, and everything that dwells in it languishes: The beasts of the field, the birds of the air, and even the fish of the sea perish.
4 Cependant, que personne ne se plaigne, que personne ne fasse de reproches, car c’est après toi, prêtre, que j’en ai.	4 But let no one protest, let no one complain; with you is my grievance, O priests!
5 Tu trébucheras en plein jour, le prophète aussi trébuchera avec toi dans la nuit, et je réduirai au silence tes oracles.	5 You shall stumble in the day, and the prophets shall stumble with you at night; I will destroy your mother.
6 Mon peuple dépérit par faute de connaissance. Puisque tu as laissé se perdre la connaissance, je te ferai perdre mon sacerdoce; si toi tu as oublié l’enseignement de ton Dieu, moi j’oublierai tes fils.	6 My people perish for want of knowledge! Since you have rejected knowledge, I will reject you from my priesthood; Since you have ignored the law of your God, I will also ignore your sons.
7 Tous, ils ont péché contre moi, ils ont échangé leur gloire contre la honte.	7 One and all they sin against me, exchanging their glory for shame.
8 Ils se nourrissent des sacrifices pour le péché de mon peuple: certainement ce péché ne leur déplaît pas.	8 They feed on the sin of my people, and are greedy for their guilt.
9 Il en ira du prêtre comme du peuple, je le corrigerai pour sa conduite et lui ferai payer ce qu’il a fait.	9 The priests shall fare no better than the people: I will punish them for their ways, and repay them for their deeds.
10 Ils mangeront mais ils auront encore faim, ils se prostitueront mais ils n’y gagneront rien, car ils ont cessé d’obéir à Yahvé.	10 They shall eat but not be satisfied, they shall play the harlot but not increase, Because they have abandoned the LORD
11 La prostitution, le vin et l’alcool leur ont fait perdre la tête.	11 to practice harlotry. Old wine and new deprive my people of understanding.
12 Mon peuple consulte un poteau de bois; c’est son bâton qui lui donne des conseils. Un esprit de prostitution les égare, ils se conduisent en adultères avec leur Dieu.	12 They consult their piece of wood, and their wand makes pronouncements for them, For the spirit of harlotry has led them astray; they commit harlotry, forsaking their God.
13 Ils offrent des sacrifices sur le sommet des montagnes et font fumer l’encens sur les collines, sous un chêne, un peuplier ou un térébinthe, car leur ombrage est bon. C’est pourquoi, si vos filles se prostituent, si vos belles-filles commettent l’adultère,	13 On the mountaintops they offer sacrifice and on the hills they burn incense, Beneath oak and poplar and terebinth, because of their pleasant shade. That is why your daughters play the harlot, and your daughters-in-law are adulteresses.
14 je ne punirai pas vos filles pour leurs prostitutions ou vos belles-filles pour leurs adultères, car vous-mêmes allez à l’écart avec les prostituées, vous offrez des sacrifices avec les prostitués sacrés. Ce peuple sans intelligence court à sa perte.	14 Am I then to punish your daughters for their harlotry, your daughters-in-law for their adultery? You yourselves consort with harlots, and with prostitutes you offer sacrifice! So must a people without understanding come to ruin.
15 (Si toi, Israël, tu te prostitues, ce n’est pas une raison pour que Juda se rende coupable. N’allez pas à Guilgal, ne montez pas à Beth-Aven, ne jurez pas “Par la vie de Yahvé”.)	15 Though you play the harlot, O Israel, let not Judah become guilty! Come not to Gilgal, nor up to Beth-aven, to swear, "As the Lord lives!"
16 Israël est pire qu’une vache obstinée: voudrait-on que Yahvé le fasse paître comme un agneau dans un pâturage?	16 For Israel is as stubborn as a heifer; will the LORD now give them broad pastures as though they were lambs?
17 Éphraïm est le complice des idoles, laissez-le!	17 Ephraim is an associate of idols, let him alone!
18 À peine ont-ils fini de boire qu’ils se prostituent, ils préfèrent à leur Gloire la honteuse idole.	18 When their carousing is over, they give themselves to harlotry; in their arrogance they love shame.
19 Le vent l’emportera sur ses ailes et ils n’auront rien gagné avec leurs sacrifices.	19 The wind has bound them up in its pinions; they shall have only shame from their altars.
