1 Heureux celui qui n’a pas péché en paroles et qui ne porte pas le regret de ses fautes!	1 Blessed is the man that hath not slipped by a word out of his mouth, and is not pricked with the remorse of sin.
2 Heureux celui que sa conscience ne condamne pas et qui n’a pas renoncé à son idéal!	2 Happy is he that hath had no sadness of his mind, and who is not fallen from his hope.
3 La richesse ne convient pas à l’homme mesquin: pourquoi donneriez-vous de grands biens à un avare?	3 Riches are not comely for a covetous man and a niggard, and what should an envious man do with gold?
4 Celui qui amasse en se privant de tout, amasse pour autrui: d’autres jouiront de ses biens.	4 He that gathereth together by wronging his own soul, gathereth for others, and another will squander away his goods in rioting.
5 Si quelqu’un est mauvais pour lui-même, pour qui sera-t-il bon? Il ne jouit même pas de ce qu’il a.	5 He that is evil to himself, to whom will he be good? and he shall not take pleasure in his goods.
6 Il n’y a pas pire que celui qui est mauvais avec lui-même: sa méchanceté se retourne contre lui.	6 There is none worse than he that envieth himself, and this is the reward of his wickedness:
7 S’il fait le bien, ce sera un hasard, mais à la fin sa méchanceté ressortira.	7 And if he do good, he doth it ignorantly, and unwillingly: and at the last he discovereth his wickedness.
8 L’homme qui toujours convoite est un mauvais; les personnes ne l’intéressent pas, il méprise les autres.	8 The eye of the envious is wicked: and he turneth away his face, and despiseth his own soul.
9 L’homme insatiable n’est jamais satisfait de ce qu’il a, la cupidité lui dessèche le cœur.	9 The eye of the covetous man is insatiable in his portion of iniquity: he will not be satisfied till he consume his own soul, drying it up.
10 L’envieux convoite la nourriture de son prochain: misère et famine seront à sa table.	10 An evil eye is towards evil things: and he shall not have his fill of bread, but shall be needy and pensive at his own table.
11 Mon enfant, fais bon usage de tout ce que tu as, et présente au Seigneur des offrandes généreuses.	11 My son, if thou have any thing, do good to thyself, and offer to God worthy offerings.
12 Souviens-toi que la mort ne tardera pas, et que ton heure ne t’a pas encore été révélée.	12 Remember that death is not slow, and that the covenant of hell hath been shewn to thee: for the covenant of this world shall surely die.
13 Avant de mourir fais du bien à ton ami, sois généreux selon tes moyens.	13 Do good to thy friend before thou die, and according to thy ability, stretching out thy hand give to the poor.
14 Jouis de la vie et ne rejette pas un plaisir légitime s’il se présente sur ton chemin.	14 Defraud not thyself of the good day, and let not the part of a good gift overpass thee.
15 Ne laisseras-tu pas à d’autres le fruit de ton travail? On partagera au sort le fruit de tes peines.	15 Shalt thou not leave to others to divide by lot thy sorrows and labours?
16 Donne et reçois, trompe tes soucis, ce n’est pas au tombeau qu’on peut chercher le plaisir.	16 Give and take, and justify thy soul.
17 Tout ce qui vit vieillit comme un vêtement; c’est la loi éternelle: tu mourras!	17 Before thy death work justice: for in hell there is no finding food.
18 Vois la verdure d’un arbre touffu: des feuilles tombent, d’autres apparaissent; de même les générations de chair et de sang: l’une meurt et l’autre naît.	18 All flesh shall fade as grass, and as the leaf that springeth out on a green tree.
19 Les choses finies passent, et avec elles passe celui qui les a faites.	19 Some grow, and some fall off: so is the generation of flesh and blood, one cometh to an end, and another is born.
20 Heureux celui qui s’adonne à la sagesse et peut répondre à celui qui l’interroge;	20 Every work that is corruptible shall fail in the end: and the worker thereof shall go with it.
21 qui fait siennes les voies de la sagesse et en approfondit les secrets;	21 And every excellent work shall be justified: and the worker thereof shall be honoured therein.
22 qui la prend en chasse et se met à l’affût sur son passage;	22 Blessed is the man that shall continue in wisdom, and that shall meditate in his justice, and in his mind shall think of the all seeing eye of God.
23 qui regarde par ses fenêtres et écoute à ses portes;	23 He that considereth her ways in his heart, and hath understanding in her secrets, who goeth after her as one that traceth, and stayeth in her ways:
24 qui plante sa tente auprès de sa maison et en fixe les piquets dans ses murs.	24 He who looketh in at her windows, and hearkeneth at her door:
25 Il remet sa tente entre les mains de la sagesse et reste en cette heureuse demeure.	25 He that lodgeth near her house, and fastening a pin in her walls shall set up his tent nigh unto her, where good things shall rest in his lodging for ever.
26 Il place ses enfants sous sa protection et se tient à l’abri de ses branches;	26 He shall set his children under her shelter, and shall lodge under her branches:
27 elle le protège de la chaleur et il s’établit dans sa gloire.	27 He shall be protected under her covering from the heat, and shall rest in her glory.
