1 Cantique des montées. De Salomon. Si le Seigneur ne bâtit la maison, les bâtisseurs ont perdu leur peine. Si le Seigneur ne garde la cité, le gardien a perdu ses veilles.	1 Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.
2 En pure perte vous devancez le matin et retardez au soir le repos: faut-il tant de peine pour le pain que vous mangez? Dieu le donne à ses bien-aimés, et ils dorment.	2 It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.
3 La richesse de l’homme, ce sont ses fils, le fruit des entrailles sera son salaire.	3 Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.
4 Tel un combattant, il aura en main ces flèches, ces fils nés au temps qu’il était jeune.	4 As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.
5 Heureux ce combattant, cet homme, qui en a son plein carquois. Quand ils viendront demander justice, l’adversaire ne les fera pas taire.	5 Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.
