1 Mais une fois devenu fort, avec le pouvoir bien en mains, Roboam abandonna la Loi de Yahvé et tout Israël le suivit.	1 And it came to pass, when Rehoboam had established the kingdom, and had strengthened himself, he forsook the law of the LORD, and all Israel with him.
2 Comme on avait été infidèle à Yahvé, Chéchonk, roi d’Égypte, monta contre Jérusalem en la cinquième année du règne de Roboam.	2 And it came to pass, that in the fifth year of king Rehoboam Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, because they had transgressed against the LORD,
3 Il avait avec lui 1 200 chars et 60 000 cavaliers, et c’était une foule innombrable qui était venue d’Égypte avec lui: des Libyens, des Soukiens et des Kouchites.	3 With twelve hundred chariots, and threescore thousand horsemen: and the people were without number that came with him out of Egypt; the Lubims, the Sukkiims, and the Ethiopians.
4 Il s’empara des villes fortifiées de Juda et arriva à Jérusalem.	4 And he took the fenced cities which pertained to Judah, and came to Jerusalem.
5 Le prophète Chémaya vint alors trouver Roboam et les chefs de Juda qui s’étaient repliés à Jérusalem devant Chéchonk. Il leur dit: “Voici ce que dit Yahvé: Vous m’avez abandonné? Eh bien moi aussi je vous abandonnerai aux mains de Chéchonk.”	5 Then came Shemaiah the prophet to Rehoboam, and to the princes of Judah, that were gathered together to Jerusalem because of Shishak, and said unto them, Thus saith the LORD, Ye have forsaken me, and therefore have I also left you in the hand of Shishak.
6 Les chefs d’Israël et le roi s’humilièrent: “Yahvé est juste, dirent-ils.”	6 Whereupon the princes of Israel and the king humbled themselves; and they said, The LORD is righteous.
7 Lorsque Yahvé vit qu’ils s’humiliaient, la parole de Yahvé fut adressée ainsi à Chémaya: “Puisqu’ils se sont humiliés, je ne les détruirai pas. Je les délivrerai dans peu de temps et ma fureur ne se répandra pas sur Jérusalem par la main de Chéchonk.	7 And when the LORD saw that they humbled themselves, the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah, saying, They have humbled themselves; therefore I will not destroy them, but I will grant them some deliverance; and my wrath shall not be poured out upon Jerusalem by the hand of Shishak.
8 Cependant ils deviendront ses serviteurs et ils verront la différence entre me servir et servir les puissances étrangères.”	8 Nevertheless they shall be his servants; that they may know my service, and the service of the kingdoms of the countries.
9 Chéchonk roi d’Égypte mit la main sur Jérusalem et il ramassa les trésors du Temple de Yahvé et ceux du palais royal: il prit tout. Comme il avait pris les boucliers d’or qu’avait faits Salomon,	9 So Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, and took away the treasures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king's house; he took all: he carried away also the shields of gold which Solomon had made.
10 le roi Roboam fit faire à leur place des boucliers de bronze qu’on remit aux chefs des gardes du palais royal.	10 Instead of which king Rehoboam made shields of brass, and committed them to the hands of the chief of the guard, that kept the entrance of the king's house.
11 Chaque fois que le roi se rendait à la Maison de Yahvé, les gardes venaient les prendre, puis ils les reportaient à la salle des gardes.	11 And when the king entered into the house of the LORD, the guard came and fetched them, and brought them again into the guard chamber.
12 Comme Israël s’était humilié, la colère de Yahvé se détourna de lui et ne le détruisit pas complètement: il y avait encore du bon en Juda.	12 And when he humbled himself, the wrath of the LORD turned from him that he would not destroy him altogether: and also in Judah things went well.
13 Le roi Roboam renforça son autorité à Jérusalem où il fut vraiment roi; il avait 41 ans quand il monta sur le trône et il régna 17 ans à Jérusalem, la ville que Yahvé avait choisie parmi toutes les tribus d’Israël pour y faire habiter son Nom. Sa mère était Naama l’Ammonite.	13 So king Rehoboam strengthened himself in Jerusalem, and reigned: for Rehoboam was one and forty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the LORD had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name there. And his mother's name was Naamah an Ammonitess.
14 Il fit le mal et ne s’appliqua pas à rechercher Yahvé de tout son cœur.	14 And he did evil, because he prepared not his heart to seek the LORD.
15 Les actes de Roboam, depuis les premiers jusqu’aux derniers, cela n’est-il pas écrit dans les actes du prophète Chémaya et du voyant Iddo? Il y eut une guerre continuelle entre Roboam et Jéroboam.	15 Now the acts of Rehoboam, first and last, are they not written in the book of Shemaiah the prophet, and of Iddo the seer concerning genealogies? And there were wars between Rehoboam and Jeroboam continually.
16 Roboam se coucha avec ses pères et on l’enterra dans la Cité de David. Son fils Abiya régna à sa place.	16 And Rehoboam slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David: and Abijah his son reigned in his stead.
