1 Mais une fois devenu fort, avec le pouvoir bien en mains, Roboam abandonna la Loi de Yahvé et tout Israël le suivit.	1 And when the kingdom of Roboam was strengthened and fortified, he forsook the law of the Lord, and all Israel with him.
2 Comme on avait été infidèle à Yahvé, Chéchonk, roi d’Égypte, monta contre Jérusalem en la cinquième année du règne de Roboam.	2 And in the fifth year of the reign of Roboam, Sesac king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem (because they had sinned against the Lord)
3 Il avait avec lui 1 200 chars et 60 000 cavaliers, et c’était une foule innombrable qui était venue d’Égypte avec lui: des Libyens, des Soukiens et des Kouchites.	3 With twelve hundred chariots and threescore thousand horsemen: and the people were without number that came with him out of Egypt, to wit, Libyans, and Troglodites, and Ethiopians.
4 Il s’empara des villes fortifiées de Juda et arriva à Jérusalem.	4 And he took the strongest cities in Juda, and came to Jerusalem.
5 Le prophète Chémaya vint alors trouver Roboam et les chefs de Juda qui s’étaient repliés à Jérusalem devant Chéchonk. Il leur dit: “Voici ce que dit Yahvé: Vous m’avez abandonné? Eh bien moi aussi je vous abandonnerai aux mains de Chéchonk.”	5 And Semeias the prophet came to Roboam, and to the princes of Juda, that were gathered together in Jerusalem, fleeing from Sesac, and he said to them : Thus saith the Lord: You have left me, and I have left you in the hand of Sesac.
6 Les chefs d’Israël et le roi s’humilièrent: “Yahvé est juste, dirent-ils.”	6 And the princes of Israel, and the king, being in a consternation, said: The Lord is just.
7 Lorsque Yahvé vit qu’ils s’humiliaient, la parole de Yahvé fut adressée ainsi à Chémaya: “Puisqu’ils se sont humiliés, je ne les détruirai pas. Je les délivrerai dans peu de temps et ma fureur ne se répandra pas sur Jérusalem par la main de Chéchonk.	7 And when the Lord saw that they were humbled, the word of the Lord came to Semeias, saying: Because they are humbled, I will not destroy them, and I will give them a little help, and my wrath shall not fall upon Jerusalem by the hand of Sesac.
8 Cependant ils deviendront ses serviteurs et ils verront la différence entre me servir et servir les puissances étrangères.”	8 But yet they shall serve him, that they may know the difference between my service, and the service of a kingdom of the earth.
9 Chéchonk roi d’Égypte mit la main sur Jérusalem et il ramassa les trésors du Temple de Yahvé et ceux du palais royal: il prit tout. Comme il avait pris les boucliers d’or qu’avait faits Salomon,	9 So Sesac king of Egypt departed from Jerusalem, taking away the treasures of the house of the Lord, and of the king's house, and he took all with him, and the golden shields that Solomon had made,
10 le roi Roboam fit faire à leur place des boucliers de bronze qu’on remit aux chefs des gardes du palais royal.	10 Instead of which the king made brazen ones, and delivered them to the captains of the shieldbearers, who guarded the entrance of the palace.
11 Chaque fois que le roi se rendait à la Maison de Yahvé, les gardes venaient les prendre, puis ils les reportaient à la salle des gardes.	11 And when the king entered into the house of the Lord, the shieldbearers came and took them, and brought them back again to their armoury.
12 Comme Israël s’était humilié, la colère de Yahvé se détourna de lui et ne le détruisit pas complètement: il y avait encore du bon en Juda.	12 But yet because they were humbled, the wrath of the Lord turned away from them, and they were not utterly destroyed: for even in Juda there were found good works.
13 Le roi Roboam renforça son autorité à Jérusalem où il fut vraiment roi; il avait 41 ans quand il monta sur le trône et il régna 17 ans à Jérusalem, la ville que Yahvé avait choisie parmi toutes les tribus d’Israël pour y faire habiter son Nom. Sa mère était Naama l’Ammonite.	13 King Roboam therefore was strengthened in Jerusalem, and reigned: he was one and forty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the Lord chose out of all the tribes of Israel, to establish his name there: and the name of his mother was Naama an Ammonitess.
14 Il fit le mal et ne s’appliqua pas à rechercher Yahvé de tout son cœur.	14 But he did evil, and did not prepare his heart to seek the Lord.
15 Les actes de Roboam, depuis les premiers jusqu’aux derniers, cela n’est-il pas écrit dans les actes du prophète Chémaya et du voyant Iddo? Il y eut une guerre continuelle entre Roboam et Jéroboam.	15 Now the acts of Roboam first and last are written in the books of Semeias the prophet, and of Addo the seer, and diligently recorded: and there was war between Roboam and Jeroboam all their days.
16 Roboam se coucha avec ses pères et on l’enterra dans la Cité de David. Son fils Abiya régna à sa place.	16 And Roboam slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David. And Abia his son reigned in his stead.
