1 La sapienza dell'umile lo innalzerà e lo farà sedere tra i grandi.	1 The poor man's wisdom lifts his head high and sets him among princes.
2 Non lodare un uomo per la sua bellezza, e non disprezzare una persona per il suo aspetto.	2 Praise not a man for his looks; despise not a man for his appearance.
3 Piccola cosa tra i volatili è l'ape, eppure il suo frutto ha il primato della dolcezza.	3 Least is the bee among winged things, but she reaps the choicest of all harvests.
4 Non ti gloriar mai del tuo vestito, non t'insuperbire quando sarai onorato; perchè soltanto le opere dell'Altissimo son maravigliose, le opere di lui son gloriose, nascoste, invisibili.	4 Mock not the worn cloak and jibe at no man's bitter day: For strange are the works of the LORD, hidden from men his deeds.
5 Sederono sul trono molti tiranni, e portò il diadema colui al quale nessuno pensava.	5 The oppressed often rise to a throne, and some that none would consider wear a crown.
6 Molti potenti sono stati profondamente umiliati, e chi era nella gloria fu dato in altrui potere.	6 The exalted often fall into utter disgrace; the honored are given into enemy hands.
7 Non biasimare avanti d'esserti informato, quando ti sarai informato riprenderai con giustizia.	7 Before investigating, find no fault; examine first, then criticize.
8 Non rispondere prima d'aver ascoltato, e non interrompere l'altrui discorso.	8 Before hearing, answer not, and interrupt no one in the middle of his speech.
9 Non contendere per cosa che non ti molesta, e non ti mettere a giudicar coi peccatori.	9 Dispute not about what is not your concern; in the strife of the arrogant take no part.
10 Figlio, non t'impicciare in molte cose: se diverrai ricco, non sarai immune da colpa; se andrai dietro (a molte) non ne porterai in fondo (una), ed anche fuggendo, non ti trarrai d'impaccio.	10 My son, why increase your cares, since he who is avid for wealth will not be blameless? Even if you run after it, you will never overtake it; however you seek it, you will not find it.
11 C'è chi fatica, s'affretta e patisce, e, essendo empio, tanto meno arricchisce.	11 One may toil and struggle and drive, and fall short all the more.
12 C'è invece un disgraziato bisognoso d'aiuto, privo d'ogni forza e ricco di miseria;	12 Another goes his way a weakling and a failure, with little strength and great misery-- Yet the eyes of the LORD look favorably upon him; he raises him free of the vile dust,
13 ma l'occhio di Dio lo guarda benignamente, lo solleva dalla sua umile condizione, gli fa alzare la testa, e molti ne restano ammirati e glorificano Dio.	13 Lifts up his head and exalts him to the amazement of the many.
14 I beni e i mali, la vita e la morte, la povertà e la ricchezza vengono da Dio.	14 Good and evil, life and death, poverty and riches, are from the LORD.
15 La sapienza, la disciplina e la scienza della legge son da Dio, son da lui l'amore e le vie del bene.	15 Wisdom and understanding and knowledge of affairs, love and virtuous paths are from the LORD.
16 L'errore e le tenebre sono ingenite nei peccatori, e chi esulta nel male invecchia nella malizia.	16 Error and darkness were formed with sinners from their birth, and evil grows old with evildoers.
17 Il dono di Dio rimane ai giusti, e il suo progresso avrà dei successi in eterno.	17 The LORD'S gift remains with the just; his favor brings continued success.
18 C'è chi arricchisce a forza di risparmi, ed ecco la parte che gli tocca in ricompensa:	18 A man may become rich through a miser's life, and this is his allotted reward:
19 che può dire: « Ho trovato riposo, ed ora mi godrò da solo i miei beni »	19 When he says: "I have found rest, now I will feast on my possessions," He does not know how long it will be till he dies and leaves them to others.
20 e non sa quanto tempo debba passare avanti che s'avvicini la morte, quando morrà lasciando tutto agli altri.	20 My son, hold fast to your duty, busy yourself with it, grow old while doing your task.
21 Stai al tuo patto, di esso ragiona, e invecchia nell'adempimento di quanto t'è comandato.	21 Admire not how sinners live, but trust in the LORD and wait for his light; For it is easy with the LORD suddenly, in an instant, to make a poor man rich.
22 Non rimanere stupito dell'agire dei peccatori, ma confida in Dio e rimani al tuo posto;	22 God's blessing is the lot of the just man, and in due time his hopes bear fruit.
23 perché è facile davanti a Dio arricchire in un momento il povero.	23 Say not: "What do I need? What further pleasure can be mine?"
24 La benedizione di Dio s'affretta a ricompensare il giusto, e in breve ora fa fruttificare i suoi progressi.	24 Say not: "I am independent. What harm can come to me now?"
25 Non dire: « Di che ho bisogno? E quali beni potrò avere da qui in avanti? »	25 The day of prosperity makes one forget adversity; the day of adversity makes one forget prosperity.
26 Non dire: « Io basto a me stesso; e qual disgrazia ormai mi potrà, accadere? »	26 For it is easy with the LORD on the day of death to repay man according to his deeds.
27 Nel giorno della felicità non ti dimenticare della sventura, e nel giorno della sventura non ti dimenticare della felicità.	27 A moment's affliction brings forgetfulness of past delights; when a man dies, his life is revealed.
28 E' cosa facile a Dio, nel giorno della morte, rendere a ciascuno secondo la sua condotta.	28 Call no man happy before his death, for by how he ends, a man is known.
29 Il male d'un'ora fa dimenticare i grandi piaceri, e alla fine dell'uomo le sue opere saranno svelate.	29 Bring not every man into your house, for many are the snares of the crafty one;
30 Non lodar nessuno avanti la sua morte, perchè l'uomo si conosce dai suoi figlioli.	30 Though he seem like a bird confined in a cage, yet like a spy he will pick out the weak spots.
31 Non menare in casa tua ogni sorta di persone, perchè son molte le insidie dell'ingannatore.	31 The talebearer turns good into evil; with a spark he sets many coals afire.
32 Come lo stomaco guasto rutta fetidi odori, come la pernice è attirata nella gabbia e il daino nel laccio, così fa il cuore del superbo, e come chi spia per vedere la caduta del prossimo.	32 The evil man lies in wait for blood, and plots against your choicest possessions.
33 Infatti, convertendo il bene in male, tende insidie, e alle doti migliori apporrà delle macchie.	33 Avoid a wicked man, for he breeds only evil, lest you incur a lasting stain.
34 Da una sola scintilla divamperà l'incendio, da un solo ingannatore saran moltiplicate le stragi; e l'uomo perverso attenta alla vita.	34 Lodge a stranger with you, and he will subvert your course, and make a stranger of you to your own household.
35 Guardati dal corruttore, che ordisce guai, affinchè non abbia a tirarti addosso eterno scherno.
36 Metti in casa uno straniero, ed egli ti metterà sottosopra e in tempesta, e ti alienerà dai tuoi.
