Proverbi 5

LA SACRA BIBBIA	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 Figlio mio, sii attento alla mia sapienza, al mio insegnamento tendi il tuo orecchio,	1 My son, to my wisdom be attentive, to my knowledge incline your ear,
2 per custodire consigli assennati e le tue labbra conservino la scienza.	2 That discretion may watch over you, and understanding may guard you.
3 Veramente le labbra dell'estranea stillano miele, molle più dell'olio è il suo palato,	3 The lips of an adulteress drip with honey, and her mouth is smoother than oil;
4 ma la sua fine è amara come assenzio, affilata come spada a doppio taglio.	4 But in the end she is as bitter as wormwood, as sharp as a two-edged sword.
5 I suoi piedi scendono alla morte, i suoi passi raggiungono gli inferi;	5 Her feet go down to death, to the nether world her steps attain;
6 non spiana il cammino della vita, i suoi sentieri vacillano, ma non lo sa.	6 Lest you see before you the road to life, her paths will ramble, you know not where.
7 E ora, figlio mio, ascoltami, non allontanarti dai detti della mia bocca.	7 So now, O children, listen to me, go not astray from the words of my mouth.
8 Allontana da lei il tuo cammino, non ti avvicinare alla porta della sua casa.	8 Keep your way far from her, approach not the door of her house,
9 Perché tu non dia ad altri il tuo splendore, i tuoi anni a uomini spietati;	9 Lest you give your honor to others, and your years to a merciless one;
10 perché non godano gli altri della tua forza, i tuoi guadagni non vadano nella casa di un estraneo,	10 Lest strangers have their fill of your wealth, your hard-won earnings go to an alien's house;
11 così che alla fine tu ruggisca, quando saranno consumati il tuo corpo e la tua carne.	11 And you groan in the end, when your flesh and your body are consumed;
12 Allora tu dirai: "Ohimè! Ho odiato la disciplina, il mio cuore ha disprezzato il rimprovero;	12 And you say, "Oh, why did I hate instruction, and my heart spurn reproof!
13 non ho ascoltato la voce dei miei maestri, ai miei insegnanti non ho teso l'orecchio.	13 Why did I not listen to the voice of my teachers, nor to my instructors incline my ear!
14 Un altro poco e sarei stato al colmo dell'infelicità in mezzo all'assemblea e alla comunità!".	14 I have all but come to utter ruin, condemned by the public assembly!"
15 Bevi l'acqua della tua cisterna, gli zampilli del tuo pozzo.	15 Drink water from your own cistern, running water from your own well.
16 Non scorrano fuori le tue fontane né sulle piazze i tuoi ruscelli.	16 How may your water sources be dispersed abroad, streams of water in the streets?
17 Siano per te soltanto, non per gli estranei insieme a te.	17 Let your fountain be yours alone, not one shared with strangers;
18 Sia benedetta la tua sorgente! Possa tu trovar la gioia nella donna della tua giovinezza,	18 And have joy of the wife of your youth,
19 amabile cerbiatta e gazzella deliziosa. I suoi seni ti inebrino in ogni tempo, dal suo amore tu sia sempre attratto.	19 your lovely hind, your graceful doe. Her love will invigorate you always, through her love you will flourish continually, (6:22) When you lie down she will watch over you, and when you wake, she will share your concerns; wherever you turn, she will guide you.
20 Perché saresti attratto, figlio mio, da un'altra, stringeresti al seno un'altra donna?	20 Why then, my son, should you go astray for another's wife and accept the embraces of an adulteress?
21 Davanti agli occhi del Signore le vie dell'uomo, tutti i suoi sentieri egli scruta.	21 For each man's ways are plain to the LORD'S sight; all their paths he surveys;
22 Le sue colpe imprigionano l'empio, dalle funi dei suoi peccati è preso.	22 By his own iniquities the wicked man will be caught, in the meshes of his own sin he will be held fast;
23 Egli morrà, perché è senza disciplina, per l'eccesso della sua stoltezza perirà.	23 He will die from lack of discipline, through the greatness of his folly he will be lost.
