Proverbi 12

LA SACRA BIBBIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Chi ama la disciplina, ama la scienza, ma chi odia il rimprovero è uno stupido.	1 Whoever loves discipline, loves knowledge, stupid are those who hate correction.
2 Un buono si attira la compiacenza del Signore, ma l'uomo astuto Dio lo condanna.	2 The honest obtains Yahweh's favour, the schemer incurs his condemnation.
3 Non si consolida un uomo con l'empietà, ma la radice dei giusti non sarà mai smossa.	3 No one is made secure by wickedness, but nothing shakes the roots of the upright.
4 Una buona moglie è la corona di suo marito, ma come carie nell'ossa è la disonorata.	4 A capable wife, her husband's crown, a shameless wife, a cancer in his bones.
5 I pensieri dei giusti sono equità, ma le trame degli empi sono inganno.	5 The plans of the upright are honest, the intrigues of the wicked are full of deceit.
6 Le parole degli empi sono insidie mortali, ma la bocca degli uomini retti li libera.	6 The words of the wicked are snares to shed blood, what the honest say keeps them safe.
7 Gli empi precipitano e non tornano più, la casa dei retti rimane per sempre.	7 Once thrown down, the wicked are no more, but the house of the upright stands firm.
8 Per la propria prudenza uno viene lodato, l'uomo perverso invece è disprezzato.	8 Prudence wins praise, but a tortuous heart incurs only contempt.
9 Val più un uomo da poco che ha solo un servo, di un uomo onorato, ma privo di pane.	9 Better a common fel ow who has a slave than someone who gives himself airs and has nothing to eat.
10 Il giusto conosce ognuno dei suoi animali, ma le viscere degli empi sono crudeli.	10 The upright has compassion on his animals, but the heart of the wicked is ruthless.
11 Chi lavora il suo suolo si sazia di pane, ma chi va dietro a chimere è privo di senno.	11 Whoever works his land shall have bread and to spare, but no one who chases fantasies has anysense.
12 L'empio brama la rete dei cattivi, ma la radice dei giusti produce.	12 The godless delights in the snare of the wicked, but the root of the upright bears fruit.
13 Nel peccato delle labbra è preso il malvagio, il giusto invece sfugge al loro morso.	13 In the sin of the lips lies a disastrous trap, but the upright finds a way out of misfortune.
14 Dal frutto della bocca l'uomo si sazia di beni e il frutto delle sue mani gli appartiene.	14 Abundance of good things is the fruit of the lips; labour brings its own return.
15 La via dell'empio è retta ai suoi occhi, ma chi ascolta il consiglio è saggio.	15 Fools think the way they go is straight, the wise listens to advice.
16 Lo stolto subito fa vedere il suo dispetto, ma il sapiente nasconde l'oltraggio.	16 The fool shows anger straightaway, the discreet conceals dislike.
17 Chi ama la verità annunzia la giustizia, ma testimonianza dei bugiardi è la falsità.	17 To tel the truth is to further justice, a false witness is nothing but deceit.
18 C'è chi parla come a colpi di spada, ma la lingua dei saggi guarisce.	18 Thoughtless words can wound like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.
19 Una lingua verace rimane in eterno, una lingua bugiarda solo un batter d'occhio.	19 Sincere lips endure for ever, the lying tongue lasts only a moment.
20 Delusione nel cuore di chi trama il male, gioia per chi consiglia la pace.	20 Deceit is in the heart of the schemer, joy with those who give counsels of peace.
21 Non giunge al giusto alcun malanno, gli empi invece son pieni di mali.	21 No harm can come to the upright, but the wicked are swamped by misfortunes.
22 Il Signore detesta una lingua bugiarda, di chi fa la verità invece si compiace.	22 Lying lips are abhorrent to Yahweh; dear to him those who make truth their way of life.
23 L'uomo prudente nasconde la scienza, ma il cuore degli empi proclama stoltezza.	23 The discreet keeps knowledge hidden, the heart of fools proclaims their folly.
24 La mano dell'uomo solerte sarà sopra tutti, ma l'uomo indolente diventerà schiavo.	24 For the diligent hand, authority; for the slack hand, forced labour.
25 Basta un affanno del cuore e l'uomo ha la febbre, ma una buona parola lo riempie di gioia.	25 Worry makes a heart heavy, a kindly word makes it glad.
26 Trova il suo pascolo il giusto, ma la via degli empi li svia.	26 The upright shows the way to a friend; the way of the wicked leads them astray.
27 Non arrostisce l'indolenza la sua preda, ma è ricchezza dell'uomo una preziosa diligenza.	27 The idle has no game to roast; diligence is anyone's most precious possession.
28 Sul sentiero della giustizia, la vita, la sua strada non va mai alla morte.	28 In the way of uprightness is life, the ways of the vengeful lead to death.
