Psalms 123

CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAINNEW AMERICAN BIBLE
A Canticle in steps. If the Lord had not been with us, let Israel now say it:1 A song of ascents. To you I raise my eyes, to you enthroned in heaven.
if the Lord had not been with us, when men rose up against us,2 Yes, like the eyes of a servant on the hand of his master, Like the eyes of a maid on the hand of her mistress, So our eyes are on the LORD our God, till we are shown favor.
perhaps they would have swallowed us alive. When their fury was enraged against us,3 Show us favor, LORD, show us favor, for we have our fill of contempt.
perhaps the waters would have engulfed us.4 We have our fill of insult from the insolent, of disdain from the arrogant.
Our soul has passed through a torrent. Perhaps, our soul had even passed through intolerable water.
Blessed is the Lord, who has not given us into the harm of their teeth.
Our soul has been snatched away like a sparrow from the snare of the hunters. The snare has been broken, and we have been freed.
Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.
