CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAINGREEK BIBLE
A Canticle in steps. If the Lord had not been with us, let Israel now say it:1 Ωιδη των Αναβαθμων.>> Υψωσα τους οφθαλμους μου προς σε τον κατοικουντα εν ουρανοις.
if the Lord had not been with us, when men rose up against us,2 Ιδου, καθως οι οφθαλμοι των δουλων ατενιζουσιν εις την χειρα των κυριων αυτων, καθως οι οφθαλμοι της δουλης εις την χειρα της κυριας αυτης, ουτως οι οφθαλμοι ημων προς Κυριον τον Θεον ημων, εωσου ελεηση ημας.
perhaps they would have swallowed us alive. When their fury was enraged against us,3 Ελεησον ημας, Κυριε, ελεησον ημας διοτι εχορτασθημεν σφοδρα απο εξουδενωσεως.
perhaps the waters would have engulfed us.4 Καθ' υπερβολην εχορτασθη η ψυχη ημων απο της υβρεως των τρυφωντων, απο της εξουδενωσεως των υπερηφανων.
Our soul has passed through a torrent. Perhaps, our soul had even passed through intolerable water.
Blessed is the Lord, who has not given us into the harm of their teeth.
Our soul has been snatched away like a sparrow from the snare of the hunters. The snare has been broken, and we have been freed.
Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.
