To David himself. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and bless his holy name, all that is within me.1 [Prayer of someone afflicted, who in misfortune pours out sorrows before Yahweh] Yahweh, hear myprayer, let my cry for help reach you.
Bless the Lord, O my soul, and do not forget all his recompenses.2 Do not turn away your face from me when I am in trouble; bend down and listen to me, when I cal ,be quick to answer me!
He forgives all your iniquities. He heals all your infirmities.3 For my days are vanishing like smoke, my bones burning like an oven;
He redeems your life from destruction. He crowns you with mercy and compassion.4 like grass struck by blight, my heart is withering, I forget to eat my meals.
He satisfies your desire with good things. Your youth will be renewed like that of the eagle.5 From the effort of voicing my groans my bones stick out through my skin.
The Lord accomplishes mercies, and his judgment is for all who patiently endure injuries.6 I am like a desert-owl in the wastes, a screech-owl among ruins,
He has made his ways known to Moses, his will to the sons of Israel.7 I keep vigil and moan like a lone bird on a roof.
The Lord is compassionate and merciful, patient and full of mercy.8 Al day long my enemies taunt me, those who once praised me now use me as a curse.
He will not be angry forever, and he will not threaten for eternity.9 Ashes are the food that I eat, my drink is mingled with tears,
He has not dealt with us according to our sins, and he has not repaid us according to our iniquities.10 because of your fury and anger, since you have raised me up only to cast me away;
For according to the height of the heavens above the earth, so has he reinforced his mercy toward those who fear him.11 my days are like a fading shadow, I am withering up like grass.
As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our iniquities from us.12 But you, Yahweh, are enthroned for ever, each generation in turn remembers you.
As a father is compassionate to his sons, so has the Lord been compassionate to those who fear him.13 Rise up, take pity on Zion! the time has come to have mercy on her, the moment has come;
For he knows our form. He has called to mind that we are dust.14 for your servants love her very stones, are moved to pity by her dust.
Man: his days are like hay. Like the flower of the field, so will he flourish.15 Then wil the nations revere the name of Yahweh, and al the kings of the earth your glory;
For the spirit in him will pass away, and it will not remain, and he will know his place no longer.16 when Yahweh builds Zion anew, he will be seen in his glory;
But the mercy of the Lord is from eternity, and even unto eternity, upon those who fear him. And his justice is with the sons of the sons,17 he wil turn to hear the prayer of the destitute, and wil not treat their prayer with scorn.
with those who serve his covenant and have been mindful of his commandments by doing them.18 This shall be put on record for a future generation, and a people yet to be born shal praise God:
The Lord has prepared his throne in heaven, and his kingdom will rule over all.19 Yahweh has leaned down from the heights of his sanctuary, has looked down from heaven to earth,
Bless the Lord, all you his Angels: powerful in virtue, doing his word, in order to heed the voice of his discourse.20 to listen to the sighing of the captive, and set free those condemned to death,
Bless the Lord, all his hosts: his ministers who do his will.21 to proclaim the name of Yahweh in Zion, his praise in Jerusalem;
Bless the Lord, all his works: in every place of his dominion. Bless the Lord, O my soul.22 nations wil gather together, and kingdoms to worship Yahweh.
In my journeying my strength has failed on the way;
let me know the short time I have left. Do not take me away before half my days are done, for youryears run on from age to age.
Long ago you laid earth's foundations, the heavens are the work of your hands.
They pass away but you remain; they al wear out like a garment, like outworn clothes you changethem;
but you never alter, and your years never end.
The children of those who serve you wil dwel secure, and their descendants live on in yourpresence.
