1 And David spoke to the Lord the words of this verse, in the day that the Lord freed him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul.	1 Or Davidde cantò al Signore le parole di questo cantico il giorno, in cui il Signore lo liberò dalle mani di tutti li suoi nemici, e dalle mani di Saul.
2 And he said: “The Lord is my rock, and my strength, and my Savior.	2 E disse: II Signore mio asilo, e mia fortezza, e mio salvatore.
3 I will hope in him. God is my strong one, my shield, and the horn of my salvation. He lifts me up, and he is my refreshment. You, O my Savior, will free me from iniquity.	3 Dio mia difesa, in lui spererò: mio scudo, e mia possente salute: tu che m'ingrandisci, tu mio rifugio: salvator mio, tu mi libererai dall'iniquità.
4 I will call upon the Lord, who is praiseworthy; and I will be saved from my enemies.	4 Invocherò il Signore, che è degno di lode: e sarò salvo da' miei nemici.
5 For the pangs of death have encircled me. The torrents of Belial have terrified me.	5 Imperocché mi circondarono gli affanni di morte: torrenti di gente iniqua mi spaventarono.
6 The ropes of Hell have encompassed me. The snares of death have intercepted me.	6 I lacci dell'inferno mi cinsero: mi stringevano i lacci di morte.
7 In my tribulation, I will call upon the Lord, and I will cry out to my God. And he will heed my voice from his temple, and my outcry will reach his ears.	7 Nella mia tribolazione invocherò il Signore, e verso il mio Dio alzerò le strida: ed egli dal suo tempio udirà le mie voci, e alle orecchie di lui perverranno i miei clamori.
8 The earth was shaken, and it quaked. The foundations of the mountains were struck together and violently shaken, because he was angry with them.	8 Si commosse, e fu in tremore la terra: agitate furono, e scosse le fondamenta de' monti, perchè egli era con essi sdegnato.
9 Smoke ascends from his nostrils, and fire from his mouth will devour; coals have been kindled by it.	9 Dalle sue narici si alza il fumo, e la sua faccia getta fuoco divoratore: da lui sono accesi i carboni.
10 He bent down the heavens, and it descended; and a fog was beneath his feet.	10 Abbassò i cieli, e discese: e una nebbia caliginosa (era) sotto i suoi piedi.
11 And he climbed upon the cherubim, and he flew; and he slid upon the wings of the wind.	11 Salì sopra i Cherubini, e sciolse il suo volo: strisciò sull'ale de' venti.
12 He set darkness as a hiding place around himself, with waters sifted from the clouds of the heavens.	12 Sì occultò nelle tenebre, che avea d'intorno: fe' distillare le acque dalle nubi dei cieli.
13 By means of the brightness of his glance, coals of fire were kindled.	13 Dal fulgore, che gli va innanzi, preser fuoco gli ardenti carboni.
14 The Lord will thunder from heaven; and the Most High will utter his voice.	14 Tuonerà dal cielo il Signore; e l'Altissimo farà udir la sua voce.
15 He shot arrows, and he scattered them; lightning, and he consumed them.	15 Scagliò sue saette, e dissipò quella gente: i suoi fulmini, e la distrusse.
16 And the overflow of the sea appeared, and the foundations of the globe were revealed, at the rebuke of the Lord, at the exhale of the breath of his fury.	16 Scoperte (allora) rimasero le voragini del mare; e aperti i fondamenti della terra alle minacce del Signore, al soffio impetuoso del suo furore.
17 He sent from on high, and he took me up. And he drew me out of many waters.	17 Stese dall'alto la mano, e mi prese; e dalle profonde acque mi trasse.
18 He freed me from my most powerful enemy and from those who had hated me. For they were too strong for me.	18 Liberommi dal nemico mio potentissimo, e da coloro, che mi odiavano: perchè eran più forti di me.
19 He went before me in the day of my affliction, and the Lord became my firmament.	19 Ei mi prevenne nel giorno dell'afflizione: il Signore fu mio sostegno.
20 And he led me out to a wide-open place. He freed me, because I was pleasing to him.	20 E fuor mi trasse all’aperto: mi liberò, perchè ebbe buon volere per me.
21 The Lord will reward me according to my justice. And he will repay me according to the cleanness of my hands.	21 Darà mercede a me il Signore secondo la mia giustizia: renderà a me secondo la purezza delle mie mani.
22 For I have kept to the ways of the Lord, and I have not acted impiously before my God.	22 Perocché io seguitai attentamente le vie del Signore, ed empiamente non operai contro il mio Dio.
23 For all his judgments are in my sight. And I have not removed his precepts from me.	23 Conciossiachè tutti i suoi giudizii mi stanno dinanzi agli occhi; i suoi precetti non gettai lungi da me.
24 And I shall be perfect with him. And I shall guard myself from my own iniquity.	24 E sarò perfetto con lui: e mondo mi serberò dalla mia iniquità.
25 And the Lord will recompense me according to my justice, and according to the cleanness of my hands in the sight of his eyes.	25 E darà mercede a me il Signore secondo la mia giustizia: e secondo la purezza delle mie mani nel cospetto degli occhi suoi.
26 With the holy one, you will be holy, and with the strong one, you will be perfect.	26 Col santo tu (o Dio) sarai santo: e perfetto coll'uom perfetto.
27 With the elect one, you will be elect, and with the perverse one, you will be perverse.	27 Coll’uom innocente tu sarai innocente: e con chi mal fa, tu sarai malfacente.
28 And you will bring to salvation the poor people, and you will humble the exalted with your eyes.	28 Tu salverai la nazione de' poveri: e i superbi umilierai col tuo sguardo.
29 For you are my lamp, O Lord. And you, O Lord, will illuminate my darkness.	29 La mia lampa se' tu, o Signore: le mie tenebre schiarirai tu, o Signore.
30 For in you, I will run girded. In my God, I will leap over the wall.	30 Col tuo ajuto correrò armato di tutto punto (a combattere) e coll'ajuto del mio Dio valicherò la muraglia.
31 God, his way is immaculate; the eloquence of the Lord is an exacting fire. He is the shield of all who hope in him.	31 Immacolata la via di Dio: la parola del Signore purgata (quasi) col fuoco: egli è scudo di tutti quelli che sperano in lui.
32 Who is God except the Lord? And who is strong except our God?	32 Chi è Dio fuori che il Signore? e chi è potente fuori che il nostro Dio?
33 God, he has girded me with fortitude, and he has made my way perfect:	33 Iddio è quegli, che di fortezza mi veste: e la strada mi appiana perfettamente.
34 making my feet like the feet of the stag, and stationing me upon my exalted places,	34 I miei piedi fece uguali a quelli de' cervi, e in luogo sublime mi collocò.
35 teaching my hands to do battle, and making my arms like a bow of brass.	35 Egli avvezzò le mie mani a combattere, e le mie braccia fe’ simili a un arco di bronzo.
36 You have given me the shield of your salvation. And your mildness has multiplied me.	36 Tu lo scudo mi desti di tua salute, e la tua benignità m'ingrandì.
37 You will enlarge my steps under me, and my ankles will not fail.	37 Tu allargasti la strada a' miei passi: e i miei calcagni non saranno spossati giammai.
38 I will pursue my enemies, and crush them. And I will not turn back, until I consume them.	38 Darò dietro a' miei nemici, e gli sterminerò: e non avrò posa, fino a tanto ch'io gli abbia consunti.
39 I will consume them and break them apart, so that they cannot rise up; they will fall under my feet.	39 Li consumerò, e gl’infrangerò, onde non possano rialzarsi: cadranno sotto i miei piedi.
40 You have girded me with strength for the battle. Those who resisted me, you have bent down under me.	40 Tu di fortezza mi ammantasti per la battaglia: abbattesti sotto di me quelli che contro di me alzaron bandiera.
41 You have caused my enemies to turn their back to me; they have hatred for me, and I shall destroy them.	41 Facesti, che a me volgesser le spalle i miei nemici: que' che mi odiavano, e io gli sperderò.
42 They will cry out, and there will be no one to save; to the Lord, and he will not heed them.	42 Alzeranno le strida, e non sarà chi li salvi: (alzeran le strida) al Signore, e non saranno esauditi.
43 I will wipe them away like the dust of the earth. I will break them apart and crush them, like the mud of the streets.	43 Li dispergerò come polvere della terra: gl’infrangerò, e gli pesterò, come si fa del fango delle contrade.
44 You will save me from the contradictions of my people. You will preserve me to be the head of the Gentiles; a people I do not know shall serve me.	44 Tu mi salverai dalle contraddizioni del popol mio: mi custodirai, perchè io sia capo delle nazioni: un popolo da me sconosciuto mi servirà.
45 The sons of foreigners, who will resist me, at the hearing of the ear they will be obedient to me.	45 I figliuoli bastardi mi faran resistenza: al primo udire mi obbediranno.
46 The foreigners flowed away, but they will be drawn together in their anguishes.	46 I figliuoli bastardi si struggeranno: e saran ridotti a strettezze né loro angusti recinti.
47 The Lord lives, and my God is blessed. And the strong God of my salvation shall be exalted.	47 Viva il Signore, e (sia) benedetto il mio Dio; e sia esaltato Iddio potente, ch'è mia salute.
48 God gives me vindication, and he casts down the peoples under me.	48 Tu, o Dio, tu fai le mie vendette, e soggetti a me le nazioni.
49 He leads me away from my enemies, and he lifts me up from those who resist me. You will free me from the iniquitous man.	49 Tu mi traesti dalle mani de' miei nemici, e m'innalzasti sopra coloro che a me si opponevano: tu dall'uomo iniquo mi liberasti.
50 Because of this, I will confess to you, O Lord, among the Gentiles, and I will sing to your name:	50 Per questo, o Signore, io ti confesserò tra le genti: e laude canterò al tuo nome.
51 magnifying the salvation of his king, and showing mercy to David, his Christ, and to his offspring forever.”	51 A lui che ha maravigliosamente salvato il suo re, e fa misericordia a Davidde suo cristo, e alla sua stirpe pe' secoli.
