1 And David spoke to the Lord the words of this verse, in the day that the Lord freed him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul.	1 Davide rivolse al Signore le parole di questo canto, quando il Signore lo liberò dalla mano di tutti i suoi nemici, specialmente dalla mano di Saul.
2 And he said: “The Lord is my rock, and my strength, and my Savior.	2 Egli disse: "Il Signore è la mia roccia, la mia fortezza, il mio liberatore,
3 I will hope in him. God is my strong one, my shield, and the horn of my salvation. He lifts me up, and he is my refreshment. You, O my Savior, will free me from iniquity.	3 il mio Dio, la mia rupe in cui mi rifugio, il mio scudo, la mia salvezza, il mio riparo! Sei la mia roccaforte che mi salva: tu mi salvi dalla violenza.
4 I will call upon the Lord, who is praiseworthy; and I will be saved from my enemies.	4 Invoco il Signore, degno di ogni lode, e sono liberato dai miei nemici.
5 For the pangs of death have encircled me. The torrents of Belial have terrified me.	5 Mi circondavano i flutti della morte, mi atterrivano torrenti esiziali.
6 The ropes of Hell have encompassed me. The snares of death have intercepted me.	6 Mi avviluppavano le funi degli inferi; mi stavano davanti i lacci della morte.
7 In my tribulation, I will call upon the Lord, and I will cry out to my God. And he will heed my voice from his temple, and my outcry will reach his ears.	7 Nell'angoscia ho invocato il Signore, ho gridato al mio Dio, Egli ha ascoltato dal suo tempio la mia voce; il mio grido è giunto ai suoi orecchi.
8 The earth was shaken, and it quaked. The foundations of the mountains were struck together and violently shaken, because he was angry with them.	8 Si scosse la terra e sobbalzò; tremarono le fondamenta del cielo; si scossero, perché egli si era irritato.
9 Smoke ascends from his nostrils, and fire from his mouth will devour; coals have been kindled by it.	9 Fumo salì dalle sue narici; dalla sua bocca uscì un fuoco divoratore; carboni accesi partirono da lui.
10 He bent down the heavens, and it descended; and a fog was beneath his feet.	10 Egli piegò i cieli e discese; una nube oscura era sotto i suoi piedi.
11 And he climbed upon the cherubim, and he flew; and he slid upon the wings of the wind.	11 Cavalcò un cherubino e volò; si librò sulle ali del vento.
12 He set darkness as a hiding place around himself, with waters sifted from the clouds of the heavens.	12 Si avvolse di tenebra tutto intorno; acque scure e dense nubi erano la sua tenda.
13 By means of the brightness of his glance, coals of fire were kindled.	13 Per lo splendore che lo precedeva arsero carboni infuocati.
14 The Lord will thunder from heaven; and the Most High will utter his voice.	14 Il Signore tuonò nei cieli, l'Altissimo emise la sua voce.
15 He shot arrows, and he scattered them; lightning, and he consumed them.	15 Scagliò frecce e li disperse; vibrò folgori e li mise in fuga.
16 And the overflow of the sea appeared, and the foundations of the globe were revealed, at the rebuke of the Lord, at the exhale of the breath of his fury.	16 Apparvero le profondità marine; si scoprirono le basi del mondo, come effetto della tua minaccia, Signore, del soffio violento della tua ira.
17 He sent from on high, and he took me up. And he drew me out of many waters.	17 Dall'alto stese la mano e mi prese; mi fece uscire dalle grandi acque.
18 He freed me from my most powerful enemy and from those who had hated me. For they were too strong for me.	18 Mi liberò dai miei robusti avversari, dai miei nemici più forti di me.
19 He went before me in the day of my affliction, and the Lord became my firmament.	19 Mi affrontarono nel giorno della mia rovina, ma il Signore fu il mio sostegno.
20 And he led me out to a wide-open place. He freed me, because I was pleasing to him.	20 Egli mi trasse al largo; mi liberò, perché oggetto della sua benevolenza.
21 The Lord will reward me according to my justice. And he will repay me according to the cleanness of my hands.	21 Il Signore mi ricompensò secondo la mia giustizia, mi trattò secondo la purità delle mie mani.
22 For I have kept to the ways of the Lord, and I have not acted impiously before my God.	22 Perché mi sono mantenuto nelle vie del Signore, non sono stato empio, lontano dal mio Dio,
23 For all his judgments are in my sight. And I have not removed his precepts from me.	23 perché tutti i suoi decreti mi sono dinanzi e non ho allontanato da me le sue leggi.
24 And I shall be perfect with him. And I shall guard myself from my own iniquity.	24 Sono stato irreprensibile nei suoi riguardi; mi sono guardato dall'iniquità.
25 And the Lord will recompense me according to my justice, and according to the cleanness of my hands in the sight of his eyes.	25 Il Signore mi trattò secondo la mia giustizia, secondo la purità delle mie mani alla sua presenza.
26 With the holy one, you will be holy, and with the strong one, you will be perfect.	26 Con il pio ti mostri pio, con il prode ti mostri integro;
27 With the elect one, you will be elect, and with the perverse one, you will be perverse.	27 con il puro ti mostri puro, con il tortuoso ti mostri astuto.
28 And you will bring to salvation the poor people, and you will humble the exalted with your eyes.	28 Tu salvi la gente umile, mentre abbassi gli occhi dei superbi.
29 For you are my lamp, O Lord. And you, O Lord, will illuminate my darkness.	29 Sì, tu sei la mia lucerna, Signore; il Signore illumina la mia tenebra.
30 For in you, I will run girded. In my God, I will leap over the wall.	30 Sì, con te io posso affrontare una schiera, con il mio Dio posso slanciarmi sulle mura.
31 God, his way is immaculate; the eloquence of the Lord is an exacting fire. He is the shield of all who hope in him.	31 La via di Dio è perfetta; la parola del Signore è integra; egli è scudo per quanti si rifugiano in lui.
32 Who is God except the Lord? And who is strong except our God?	32 C'è forse un dio come il Signore; una rupe fuori del nostro Dio?
33 God, he has girded me with fortitude, and he has made my way perfect:	33 Dio mi cinge di forza, rende sicura la mia via.
34 making my feet like the feet of the stag, and stationing me upon my exalted places,	34 Ha reso simili i miei piedi a quelli delle cerve; mi ha fatto stare sulle alture.
35 teaching my hands to do battle, and making my arms like a bow of brass.	35 Ha addestrato la mia mano alla guerra; ha posto un arco di bronzo nelle mie braccia.
36 You have given me the shield of your salvation. And your mildness has multiplied me.	36 Mi hai dato lo scudo della tua salvezza, la tua sollecitudine mi fa crescere.
37 You will enlarge my steps under me, and my ankles will not fail.	37 Fai largo davanti ai miei passi; le mie gambe non vacillano.
38 I will pursue my enemies, and crush them. And I will not turn back, until I consume them.	38 Inseguo e raggiungo i miei nemici, non desisto finché non siano distrutti.
39 I will consume them and break them apart, so that they cannot rise up; they will fall under my feet.	39 Li colpisco ed essi non possono resistere; cadono sotto i miei piedi.
40 You have girded me with strength for the battle. Those who resisted me, you have bent down under me.	40 Mi cingi di forza per la battaglia; hai fatto piegare sotto di me i miei avversari.
41 You have caused my enemies to turn their back to me; they have hatred for me, and I shall destroy them.	41 Mi mostri i nemici di spalle, così io distruggo quelli che mi odiano.
42 They will cry out, and there will be no one to save; to the Lord, and he will not heed them.	42 Gridano, ma nessuno li salva, verso il Signore, che a loro non risponde.
43 I will wipe them away like the dust of the earth. I will break them apart and crush them, like the mud of the streets.	43 Li disperdo come polvere della terra, li calpesto come fango delle piazze.
44 You will save me from the contradictions of my people. You will preserve me to be the head of the Gentiles; a people I do not know shall serve me.	44 Tu mi liberi dalle contese del popolo; mi poni a capo di nazioni; un popolo non conosciuto mi serve.
45 The sons of foreigners, who will resist me, at the hearing of the ear they will be obedient to me.	45 I figli degli stranieri mi onorano appena sentono, mi obbediscono.
46 The foreigners flowed away, but they will be drawn together in their anguishes.	46 I figli degli stranieri vengono meno, lasciano con spavento i loro nascondigli.
47 The Lord lives, and my God is blessed. And the strong God of my salvation shall be exalted.	47 Viva il Signore! Sia benedetta la mia rupe! Sia esaltato il Dio della mia salvezza!
48 God gives me vindication, and he casts down the peoples under me.	48 Dio fa vendetta per me e mi sottomette i popoli.
49 He leads me away from my enemies, and he lifts me up from those who resist me. You will free me from the iniquitous man.	49 Tu mi liberi dai miei nemici, mi innalzi sopra i miei avversari, mi liberi dall'uomo violento.
50 Because of this, I will confess to you, O Lord, among the Gentiles, and I will sing to your name:	50 Perciò ti loderò, Signore, fra i popoli canterò inni al tuo nome.
51 magnifying the salvation of his king, and showing mercy to David, his Christ, and to his offspring forever.”	51 Egli concede una grande vittoria al suo re, la grazia al suo consacrato, a Davide e ai suoi discendenti per sempre".
