1 Damals rief Josua die Rubeniten, die Gaditen und den halben Stamm Manasse.	1 Then Joshua summoned the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh,
2 Er sprach zu ihnen: "Ihr habt alles beobachtet, was euch Moses, der Knecht des Herrn, befohlen hat; auch mir habt ihr gehorcht in allem, was ich euch befohlen habe.	2 and said to them, "You have kept all that Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you, and have obeyed my voice in all that I have commanded you;
3 Ihr habt eure Stammesbrüder diese lange Zeit hindurch bis heute nie im Stich gelassen. Den Befehl des Herrn, eures Gottes, habt ihr getreu beobachtet.	3 you have not forsaken your brethren these many days, down to this day, but have been careful to keep the charge of the LORD your God.
4 Nun aber hat der Herr, euer Gott, euren Volksgenossen Ruhe verschafft, wie er ihnen verheißen. So wendet euch nun und kehrt wieder in eure Zelte zurück, in das Land eures Erbbesitzes, den euch Moses, der Knecht des Herrn, jenseits des Jordans verliehen hat!	4 And now the LORD your God has given rest to your brethren, as he promised them; therefore turn and go to your home in the land where your possession lies, which Moses the servant of the LORD gave you on the other side of the Jordan.
5 Nur achtet gewissenhaft darauf, dem Befehl und der Anweisung, die euch Moses, der Knecht des Herrn, befohlen hat, zu folgen: Liebt den Herrn, euren Gott, und wandelt auf seinen Wegen, beobachtet seine Gebote, seid anhänglich an ihn und dient ihm aus eurem ganzen Herzen und mit eurer ganzen Seele!"	5 Take good care to observe the commandment and the law which Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you, to love the LORD your God, and to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and to cleave to him, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul."
6 Josua segnete und entließ sie, und sie kehrten zu ihren Zelten zurück.	6 So Joshua blessed them, and sent them away; and they went to their homes.
7 Der einen Hälfte des Stammes Manasse hatte Moses in Basan Landbesitz gegeben, der anderen Hälfte gab ihn Josua bei ihren Stammesbrüdern jenseits des Jordans im Westen. Josua entließ auch sie zu ihren Zelten mit Segenswünschen.	7 Now to the one half of the tribe of Manasseh Moses had given a possession in Bashan; but to the other half Joshua had given a possession beside their brethren in the land west of the Jordan. And when Joshua sent them away to their homes and blessed them,
8 Er sprach zu ihnen: "Mit reichen Schätzen kehrt zu euren Zelten zurück, mit sehr großem Viehbestand, mit Silber, Gold, Erz, Eisen und Kleidern in großer Menge. Teilt, was ihr von euren Feinden erbeutet habt, mit euren Stammesbrüdern!"	8 he said to them, "Go back to your homes with much wealth, and with very many cattle, with silver, gold, bronze, and iron, and with much clothing; divide the spoil of your enemies with your brethren."
9 Die Rubeniten, Gaditen und der halbe Stamm Manasse kehrten also um und gingen von den Israeliten weg aus Silo im Lande Kanaan, um ins Land Gilead zu ziehen, in ihr Erbland, das sie nach der Verheißung des Herrn an Moses besitzen sollten.	9 So the Reubenites and the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh returned home, parting from the people of Israel at Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan, to go to the land of Gilead, their own land of which they had possessed themselves by command of the LORD through Moses.
10 Sie kamen zu den Bezirken am Jordan, noch zum Lande Kanaan gehörig, und die Rubeniten, Gaditen und der halbe Stamm Manasse erbauten dort am Jordan einen Altar, recht stattlich anzusehen.	10 And when they came to the region about the Jordan, that lies in the land of Canaan, the Reubenites and the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh built there an altar by the Jordan, an altar of great size.
11 Da hörten die Israeliten folgende Kunde: "Seht, die Rubeniten, Gaditen und der halbe Stamm Manasse haben sich einen Altar gegenüber dem Lande Kanaan in den Bezirken des Jordans, jenseits des Gebietes der Israeliten, errichtet."	11 And the people of Israel heard say, "Behold, the Reubenites and the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh have built an altar at the frontier of the land of Canaan, in the region about the Jordan, on the side that belongs to the people of Israel."
12 Die Israeliten hörten das, und es versammelte sich die ganze israelitische Gemeinde in Silo, um gegen sie in den Krieg zu ziehen.	12 And when the people of Israel heard of it, the whole assembly of the people of Israel gathered at Shiloh, to make war against them.
13 Die Israeliten sandten nun den Sohn des Priesters Eleasar, Pinchas, zu den Rubeniten, Gaditen und dem halben Stamm Manasse in das Land Gilead,	13 Then the people of Israel sent to the Reubenites and the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh, in the land of Gilead, Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest,
14 dazu zehn Fürsten von sämtlichen Stämmen Israels, je einen von jedem Stamme; jeder von ihnen war Oberhaupt der Familien in den Tausendschaften Israels.	14 and with him ten chiefs, one from each of the tribal families of Israel, every one of them the head of a family among the clans of Israel.
15 Sie kamen zu den Rubeniten, Gaditen und dem halben Stamm Manasse in das Land Gilead und redeten mit ihnen:	15 And they came to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, in the land of Gilead, and they said to them,
16 "So läßt die ganze Gemeinde des Herrn sagen: Was soll diese Untreue, die ihr gegen den Gott Israels begangen habt, da ihr euch heute vom Herrn abwendet, indem ihr euch einen Altar errichtet habt für euren heutigen Abfall vom Herrn?	16 "Thus says the whole congregation of the LORD, 'What is this treachery which you have committed against the God of Israel in turning away this day from following the LORD, by building yourselves an altar this day in rebellion against the LORD?
17 Haben wir noch nicht genug an der Schuld von Peor, von der wir bis heute noch nicht rein sind? Daraufhin kam ja auch die Heimsuchung über die Gemeinde des Herrn!	17 Have we not had enough of the sin at Peor from which even yet we have not cleansed ourselves, and for which there came a plague upon the congregation of the LORD,
18 Ihr wendet euch also heute vom Herrn ab. Fallt ihr aber heute vom Herrn ab, dann zürnt er morgen der ganzen Gemeinde Israel.	18 that you must turn away this day from following the LORD? And if you rebel against the LORD today he will be angry with the whole congregation of Israel tomorrow.
19 Fürwahr, wenn das Land, das euer Eigentum ist, unrein sein sollte, so kommt doch herüber in das Land, das des Herrn Eigentum ist, wo seine Wohnstätte steht! Siedelt euch doch bei uns an, aber gegen den Herrn empört euch nicht und verstrickt uns nicht auch noch in die Empörung, indem ihr euch einen Altar baut, der neben dem Altar des Herrn, unseres Gottes, bestehen soll.	19 But now, if your land is unclean, pass over into the LORD's land where the LORD's tabernacle stands, and take for yourselves a possession among us; only do not rebel against the LORD, or make us as rebels by building yourselves an altar other than the altar of the LORD our God.
20 Vergriff sich nicht auch Achan, der Sohn des Serach, treulos an dem Banngut, und kam da nicht der Zorn über die ganze Gemeinde Israel, obwohl es doch nur ein einzelner Mann war? Mußte er nicht um seines Frevels willen sterben?"	20 Did not Achan the son of Zerah break faith in the matter of the devoted things, and wrath fell upon all the congregation of Israel? And he did not perish alone for his iniquity.'"
21 Da antworteten die Rubeniten, Gaditen und der halbe Stamm Manasse, indem sie zu den Häuptern der Tausendschaften sprachen:	21 Then the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh said in answer to the heads of the families of Israel,
22 "Der erhabene Gott, der Herr, fürwahr der erhabene Gott, der Herr, er allein weiß es, und Israel möge es wissen: Wenn dies in Empörung und in Untreue gegen den Herrn geschehen ist, so möge er uns am heutigen Tag nicht helfen!	22 "The Mighty One, God, the LORD! The Mighty One, God, the LORD! He knows; and let Israel itself know! If it was in rebellion or in breach of faith toward the LORD, spare us not today
23 Wenn wir uns einen Altar errichteten, um uns vom Herrn abzuwenden und um auf ihm Brand- und Speiseopfer darzubringen oder um Friedopfer auf ihm zu vollziehen, so ahnde es der Herr selbst.	23 for building an altar to turn away from following the LORD; or if we did so to offer burnt offerings or cereal offerings or peace offerings on it, may the LORD himself take vengeance.
24 Vielmehr aus Sorge, aus folgendem Grund haben wir es getan: In Zukunft könnten eure Nachkommen unsern Nachkommen gegenüber bemerken: "Was geht euch der Herr, der Gott Israels, an?	24 Nay, but we did it from fear that in time to come your children might say to our children, 'What have you to do with the LORD, the God of Israel?
25 Hat doch der Herr zwischen uns und euch Rubeniten und Gaditen den Jordan zur Grenze bestimmt! Ihr habt keinen Anteil am Herrn!" So könnten eure Nachkommen unsere Kinder von der Verehrung des Herrn abspenstig machen.	25 For the LORD has made the Jordan a boundary between us and you, you Reubenites and Gadites; you have no portion in the LORD.' So your children might make our children cease to worship the LORD.
26 Da haben wir uns denn gedacht: Wir wollen uns doch einen Zeugen schaffen, indem wir den Altar errichten; nicht für Brand- und nicht für Schlachtopfer ist er bestimmt,	26 Therefore we said, 'Let us now build an altar, not for burnt offering, nor for sacrifice,
27 sondern Zeuge sei er zwischen uns und euch und zwischen unsern Nachkommen, daß wir dem Dienste des Herrn obliegen wollen mit unsern Brand-, Schlacht- und Friedopfern. Nicht sollen eure Söhne künftig zu unsern Söhnen sagen: "Keinen Anteil habt ihr am Herrn."	27 but to be a witness between us and you, and between the generations after us, that we do perform the service of the LORD in his presence with our burnt offerings and sacrifices and peace offerings; lest your children say to our children in time to come, "You have no portion in the LORD."'
28 Wir dachten: Wenn sie zu uns oder unsern Nachkommen künftig so sprechen, dann antworten wir: "Seht das Abbild des Herrenaltares, den unsere Väter gebaut haben, nicht zu Brand- und Schlachtopfern, sondern als Zeuge zwischen uns und euch!"	28 And we thought, If this should be said to us or to our descendants in time to come, we should say, 'Behold the copy of the altar of the LORD, which our fathers made, not for burnt offerings, nor for sacrifice, but to be a witness between us and you.'
29 Ferne sei es von uns, daß wir uns gegen den Herrn empören und uns heute vom Herrn abwenden wollen, indem wir uns einen Altar für Brand-, Speise- und Schlachtopfer errichten außer dem Altar des Herrn, unseres Gottes, der sich vor seiner Wohnung befindet."	29 Far be it from us that we should rebel against the LORD, and turn away this day from following the LORD by building an altar for burnt offering, cereal offering, or sacrifice, other than the altar of the LORD our God that stands before his tabernacle!"
30 Der Priester Pinchas und die Fürsten der Gemeinde, die Häupter der Tausendschaften Israels, die sich in seiner Begleitung befanden, vernahmen die Worte der Rubeniten, der Gaditen und der Manassiten, und sie waren damit einverstanden.	30 When Phinehas the priest and the chiefs of the congregation, the heads of the families of Israel who were with him, heard the words that the Reubenites and the Gadites and the Manassites spoke, it pleased them well.
31 Der Priester Pinchas, der Sohn Eleasars, sprach zu den Rubeniten, Gaditen und Manassiten: "Heute erfahren wir, daß der Herr in unserer Mitte ist, weil ihr keine Untreue dem Herrn gegenüber verübtet. So bewahrtet ihr die Israeliten vor der Hand des Herrn."	31 And Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest said to the Reubenites and the Gadites and the Manassites, "Today we know that the LORD is in the midst of us, because you have not committed this treachery against the LORD; now you have saved the people of Israel from the hand of the LORD."
32 Der Priester Pinchas, der Sohn des Eleasar, und die Fürsten kehrten von den Rubeniten und Gaditen aus dem Lande Gilead in das Land Kanaan zu den Israeliten zurück und hinterbrachten ihnen die Kunde.	32 Then Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, and the chiefs, returned from the Reubenites and the Gadites in the land of Gilead to the land of Canaan, to the people of Israel, and brought back word to them.
33 Der Bescheid gefiel den Israeliten wohl. Die Israeliten priesen Gott und gaben den Plan auf, gegen sie in den Krieg zu ziehen, um das Land der Rubeniten und Gaditen zu verwüsten.	33 And the report pleased the people of Israel; and the people of Israel blessed God and spoke no more of making war against them, to destroy the land where the Reubenites and the Gadites were settled.
34 Die Rubeniten und Gaditen nannten den Altar "Zeugnis"; denn (so sagten sie) er ist ein Zeugnis zwischen uns, daß der Herr Gott ist.	34 The Reubenites and the Gadites called the altar Witness; "For," said they, "it is a witness between us that the LORD is God."
