1 Über die Zeiten aber und Stunden, Brüder, brauchen wir euch nicht zu schreiben.	1 But concerning dates and times, brothers, you do not need us to write to you.
2 Ihr selbst wißt ja genau: Der Tag des Herrn - wie ein Dieb in der Nacht, geradeso kommt er.	2 For you yourselves thoroughly understand that the day of the Lord shall arrive much like a thief in the night.
3 Wenn sie das Wort "Friede" und "Sicherheit" sagen, wird sie plötzlich das Verderben überfallen wie die Geburtswehe die Schwangere, und sie werden nicht entkommen.	3 For when they will say, “Peace and security!” then destruction will suddenly overwhelm them, like the labor pains of a woman with child, and they will not escape.
4 Ihr aber, Brüder, seid nicht in Finsternis, daß jener Tag euch wie ein Dieb überfallen könnte;	4 But you, brothers, are not in darkness, so that you would be overtaken by that day as by a thief.
5 denn ihr alle seid Söhne des Lichtes und Söhne des Tages; nicht aber der Nacht gehören wir an noch der Finsternis.	5 For all of you are sons of light and sons of daytime; we are not of nighttime, nor of darkness.
6 So laßt uns denn nicht schlafen wie die übrigen, sondern wachsam sein und nüchtern.	6 Therefore, let us not sleep, as the rest do. Instead, we should be vigilant and sober.
7 Die Schlafenden schlafen ja nachts, und die Trunksüchtigen betrinken sich nachts.	7 For those who sleep, sleep in the night; and those who are inebriated, are inebriated in the night.
8 Wir aber, die wir dem Tag gehören, wollen nüchtern sein, angetan mit dem Panzer des Glaubens und der Liebe und mit dem Helm der Hoffnung auf das Heil.	8 But we, who are of the daylight, should be sober, being clothed with the breastplate of faith and of charity and having, as a helmet, the hope of salvation.
9 Denn Gott hat uns nicht bestimmt für das Strafgericht, sondern zur Erlangung des Heils durch unseren Herrn Jesus Christus,	9 For God has not appointed us for wrath, but for the acquisition of salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
10 der für uns starb, damit wir, ob wir wachen oder schlafen, mit ihm vereint leben.	10 who died for us, so that, whether we watch, or whether we sleep, we may live in union with him.
11 So richtet euch gegenseitig auf und erbaut einander, wie ihr es auch schon tut.	11 Because of this, console one another and build up one another, just as you are doing.
12 Wir bitten euch aber, Brüder, anerkennt jene, die sich unter euch mühen, die eure Vorsteher sind im Herrn und euch anleiten zum Guten;	12 And we ask you, brothers, to recognize those who labor among you, and who preside over you in the Lord, and who admonish you,
13 schätzt sie besonders hoch in Liebe wegen ihres Wirkens! Lebt in Frieden untereinander!	13 so that you may consider them with an abundance of charity, for the sake of their work. Be at peace with them.
14 Wir mahnen euch, Brüder, weist die Ungeordneten zurecht, ermuntert die Kleinmütigen, nehmt euch der Schwachen an, seid geduldig gegen alle!	14 And we ask you, brothers: correct the disruptive, console the weak-minded, support the sick, be patient with everyone.
15 Seht zu, daß keiner dem andern Böses mit Bösem vergelte; sondern seid stets auf das Gute bedacht, untereinander wie gegenüber allen!	15 See to it that no one repays evil for evil to anyone. Instead, always pursue whatever is good, with one another and with all.
16 Freut euch allezeit!	16 Rejoice always.
17 Betet ohne Unterlaß!	17 Pray without ceasing.
18 Sagt Dank bei allem! Denn das ist Gottes Wille in Christus Jesus für euch.	18 Give thanks in everything. For this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for all of you.
19 Löscht den Geist nicht aus!	19 Do not choose to extinguish the Spirit.
20 Verachtet nicht prophetische Gaben!	20 Do not spurn prophecies.
21 Prüft alles! Das Gute behaltet!	21 But test all things. Hold on to whatever is good.
22 Haltet euch fern von jeder Art des Bösen!	22 Abstain from every kind of evil.
23 Er aber, der Gott des Friedens, heilige euch voll und ganz, und euer Geist und eure Seele und euer Leib werde unversehrt und untadelig bewahrt für die Ankunft unseres Herrn Jesus Christus.	23 And may the God of peace himself sanctify you through all things, so that your whole spirit and soul and body may be preserved without blame unto the return of our Lord Jesus Christ.
24 Treu ist er, der euch ruft, er wird es auch wirken.	24 He who has called you is faithful. He shall act even now.
25 Brüder, betet auch für uns!	25 Brothers, pray for us.
26 Grüßt alle Brüder mit heiligem Kuß!	26 Greet all the brothers with a holy kiss.
27 Ich beschwöre euch beim Herrn, daß der Brief vorgelesen werde allen Brüdern.	27 I bind you, through the Lord, that this epistle is to be read to all the holy brothers.
28 Die Gnade unseres Herrn Jesus Christus sei mit euch! [Amen.]	28 May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.
