1 Moses aber und die Ältesten Israels gaben dem Volke folgenden Befehl: "Befolgt alle Gebote, die ich euch heute gebe!	1 Moses and the elders of Israel gave the people this command: 'Keep al the commandments which Iam laying down for you today.
2 Wenn ihr über den Jordan in das Land hinübergekommen seid, das dir der Herr, dein Gott, geben wird, dann richte dir große Steine auf und bestreiche sie mit Kalk!	2 After you have crossed the Jordan into the country which Yahweh your God is giving you, you mustset up tal stones, coat them with lime
3 Schreibe auf sie anläßlich deines Einzuges alle Worte dieses Gesetzes, damit du hineinkommst in das Land, das der Herr, dein Gott, dir verleiht, ein Land, das von Milch und Honig überfließt, wie der Herr, der Gott deiner Väter, dir verheißen.	3 and on them write all the words of this Law, when you have crossed and entered the country whichYahweh your God is giving you, a country flowing with milk and honey, as Yahweh, God of your ancestors, haspromised you.
4 Habt ihr den Jordan überschritten, so errichtet diese Steine, um derentwillen ich euch heute Befehl erteile, auf dem Berge Garizim, und du sollst sie mit Kalk übertünchen!	4 'When you have crossed the Jordan, you must erect these stones on Mount Ebal, as I command youtoday, and coat them with lime.
5 Ferner sollst du dort dem Herrn, deinem Gott, einen Altar bauen, einen Altar aus Steinen, die du mit keinem Eisenwerkzeug bearbeitet hast.	5 There, for Yahweh your God, you must build an altar of stones, on which no iron has been used.
6 Aus unbehauenen Steinen sollst du den Altar des Herrn, deines Gottes, errichten und darauf dem Herrn, deinem Gott, Brandopfer darbringen.	6 You must build the altar of Yahweh your God of rough stones, and on this altar you will present burntofferings to Yahweh your God,
7 Ebenso sollst du dort Friedopfer schlachten und ein fröhliches Opfermahl vor dem Herrn, deinem Gott, halten.	7 and immolate communion sacrifices and eat them there, rejoicing in the presence of Yahweh yourGod.
8 Schreibe auf die Steine alle Worte dieses Gesetzes deutlich und genau!"	8 On these stones you must write al the words of this Law; cut them careful y.'
9 Moses und die levitischen Priester sprachen zu ganz Israel: "Schweige und höre, Israel! Heute bist du das Volk des Herrn, deines Gottes, geworden.	9 Moses and the levitical priests then said to al Israel: 'Be silent, Israel, and listen. Today you havebecome a people for Yahweh your God.
10 Höre denn auf die Stimme des Herrn, deines Gottes; halte seine Gebote und Satzungen, die ich dir heute gebiete!"	10 You must listen to the voice of Yahweh your God and observe the commandments and laws which Iam laying down for you today.'
11 An jenem Tag gab Moses dem Volk folgende Anweisung:	11 That day Moses gave the people this order:
12 "Wenn ihr den Jordan überschritten habt, sollen sich die einen zur Segnung des Volkes auf dem Berge Garizim aufstellen: Simeon, Levi, Juda, Issachar, Joseph und Benjamin;	12 'When you have crossed the Jordan, the fol owing wil stand on Mount Gerizim to bless the people:Simeon and Levi, Judah and Issachar, Joseph and Benjamin.
13 die andern aber sollen sich zum Aussprechen des Fluches auf dem Berg Ebal aufstellen: Ruben, Gad, Aser, Sebulun, Dan und Naphtali.	13 And the fol owing wil stand on Mount Ebal for the curse: Reuben, Gad and Asher, Zebulun, Dan andNaphtali.
14 Die Leviten sollen feierlich zu Gesamtisrael mit erhobener Stimme sprechen:	14 The Levites wil then speak, proclaiming loudly to al the Israelites:
15 "Verflucht ist, wer ein Schnitzbild oder Gußbild - ein Greuel für den Herrn -, ein Machwerk von Künstlerhand, verfertigt und insgeheim aufstellt!" Das ganze Volk soll antworten: "So sei es!"	15 "Accursed be anyone who makes a carved or cast idol, a thing detestable to Yahweh, a workman'sartefact, and sets it up in secret." And the people are al to respond by saying, Amen.
16 "Verflucht ist, wer seinen Vater oder seine Mutter verwünscht!" Das ganze Volk soll sprechen: "So sei es!"	16 "Accursed be anyone who treats father or mother dishonourably." And the people must al say,Amen.
17 "Verflucht ist, wer die Grenze seines Nachbarn verschiebt!" Das ganze Volk soll sprechen: "So sei es!"	17 "Accursed be anyone who displaces a neighbour's boundary mark." And the people must al say,Amen.
18 "Verflucht ist, wer einen Blinden auf dem Weg in die Irre führt!" Das ganze Volk soll sprechen: "So sei es!"	18 "Accursed be anyone who leads the blind astray on the road." And the people must al say, Amen.
19 "Verflucht ist, wer das Recht des Fremdlings, der Waise und der Witwe beugt!" Das ganze Volk soll sprechen: "So sei es!"	19 "Accursed be anyone who violates the rights of the foreigner, the orphan and the widow." And thepeople must al say, Amen.
20 "Verflucht ist, wer der Frau seines Vaters beiwohnt, denn er hat die Decke seines Vaters aufgedeckt!" Das ganze Volk soll sprechen: "So sei es!"	20 "Accursed be anyone who has sexual intercourse with his father's wife and withdraws the skirt of hisfather's cloak from her." And the people must all say, Amen.
21 "Verflucht ist, wer irgendeinem Tier beiwohnt!" Das ganze Volk soll sprechen: "So sei es!"	21 "Accursed be anyone who has sexual intercourse with any kind of animal." And the people must allsay, Amen.
22 "Verflucht ist, wer seiner Schwester, sei es die Tochter seines Vaters oder seiner Mutter, beiwohnt!" Das ganze Volk soll sprechen: "So sei es!"	22 "Accursed be anyone who has sexual intercourse with his sister, the daughter of his father or of hismother." And the people must al say, Amen.
23 "Verflucht ist, wer seiner Schwiegermutter beiwohnt!" Das ganze Volk soll sprechen: "So sei es!"	23 "Accursed be anyone who has sexual intercourse with his mother-in-law." And the people must alsay, Amen.
24 "Verflucht ist, wer seinen Nächsten heimlich totschlägt!" Das ganze Volk soll sprechen: "So sei es!"	24 "Accursed be anyone who secretly strikes down his neighbour." And the people must al say, Amen.
25 "Verflucht ist, wer für Bestechungsgeld unschuldiges Blut vergießt!" Das ganze Volk soll sprechen: "So sei es!"	25 "Accursed be anyone who accepts a bribe to take an innocent life." And the people must al say,Amen.
26 "Verflucht ist, wer den Worten dieses Gesetzes nicht durch ihre Erfüllung Geltung verschafft!" Das ganze Volk soll sprechen: "So sei es!"	26 "Accursed be anyone who does not make the words of this Law effective by putting them intopractice." And the people must al say, Amen.'
