1 Als Atalja, die Mutter Achasjas, sah, daß ihr Sohn tot war, ging sie sofort daran, die gesamte Nachkommenschaft in der königlichen Familie auszurotten.	1 And Athalia the mother of Ochozias seeing that her son was dead, arose, and slew all the royal seed.
2 Aber Jehoscheba, die Tochter des Königs Joram und Schwester Achasjas, nahm den Joas, den Sohn Achasjas, und brachte ihn mit seiner Amme aus der Mitte der Prinzen, die ermordet werden sollten, heimlich weg in die Bettkammer. Sie verbarg ihn vor Atalja, so daß er der Ermordung entging.	2 But Josaba the daughter of king Joram, sister of Ochozias, took Joas the son of Ochozias, and stole him from among the king's sons that were slain, out of the bedchamber with his nurse: and hid him from the face of Athalia, so that he was not slain.
3 Er blieb bei ihr im Haus des Herrn sechs Jahre lang versteckt, während Atalja über das Land herrschte.	3 And he was with her six years hid in the house of the Lord. And Athalia reigned over the land.
4 Im siebten Jahr ließ Jojada die Hundertschaftsführer der Karer und der Läufer holen. Er führte sie zu sich in den Tempel des Herrn, schloß mit ihnen einen Vertrag, auf den er sie im Tempel des Herrn vereidigte. Dann zeigte er ihnen den Sohn des Königs.	4 And in the seventh year Joiada seat, and taking the centurions and the soldiers, brought them in to him into the temple of the Lord, and made a covenant with them: and taking an oath of them in the house of the Lord, shewed them the king's son:
5 Hierauf gebot er ihnen: "Das ist es, was ihr tun sollt: Von euch soll ein Drittel, nämlich jene, die am Sabbat abziehen und den Königspalast bewachen,	5 And he commanded them, saying: This is the thing that you must do:
6 ferner das Drittel am Tor Sur und das Drittel am Tor hinter den Läufern, bei der Ablösung die Bewachung des Tempels übernehmen!	6 Let a third part of you go in on the sabbath, and keep the watch of the king's house. And let a third part be at the gate of Sur: and let a third part be at the gate behind the dwelling of the shieldbearers: and you shall keep the watch of the house of Messa.
7 Die zwei Abteilungen aber von euch, die am Sabbat aufziehen, sollen die Wache beim König im Haus des Herrn übernehmen!	7 But let two parts of you, all that go forth on the sabbath, keep the watch of the house of the Lord about the king.
8 Umringt alle den König mit den Waffen in der Hand! Wer in die Reihen eindringen will, werde getötet! Seid beim König, wenn er auszieht und einzieht!"	8 And you shall compass him round about, having weapons in your hands: and if any man shall enter the precinct of the temple, let him be slain: and you shall be with the king coming in and going out.
9 Die Obersten der Hundertschaften taten genau, wie der Priester Jojada geboten hatte. Jeder nahm seine Leute zu sich, jene sowohl, die am Sabbat abzogen, als auch jene, die am Sabbat aufzogen. Sie kamen zum Priester Jojada.	9 And the centurions did according to all things that Joiada the priest had commanded them: and taking every one their men, that went in on the sabbath, with them that went out on the sabbath, came to Joiada the priest.
10 Der Priester gab den Obersten der Hundertschaften die Lanzen und Schilde, die Eigentum des Königs David waren und sich im Tempel des Herrn befanden.	10 And he gave them the spears, and the arms of king David, which were in the house of the Lord.
11 Die Läufer stellten sich mit ihren Waffen in den Händen von der Südseite des Tempels bis zur Nordseite gegen Altar und Tempel zum Schutz des Königs auf.	11 And they stood having every one their weapons in their hands, from the right side of the temple, unto the left side of the altar, and of the temple, about the king.
12 Dann führte er den Königssohn heraus und überreichte ihm das Diadem und die Königsurkunde. So machten sie ihn zum König, salbten ihn, klatschten in die Hände und riefen: "Es lebe der König!"	12 And he brought forth the king's son, and put the diadem upon him, and the testimony: and they made him king, and anointed him: and clapping their hands. they said, God save the king.
13 Atalja vernahm das Geschrei des Volkes und begab sich zu den Leuten in den Tempel des Herrn.	13 And Athalia heard the noise of the people running: and going in to the people into the temple of the Lord,
14 Da bot sich ihr dieser Anblick: Der König stand, wie es dem Brauche entsprach, auf dem Sockel; die Vornehmen und die Trompeter umgaben den König. Alles Volk des Landes freute sich und stieß in die Trompeten. Da zerriß Atalja ihre Kleider und rief: "Verrat, Verrat!"	14 She saw the king standing upon a tribunal, as the manner was, and the singers, and the trumpets near him, and all the people of the land rejoicing, and sounding the trumpets: and she rent her garments, and cried: A conspiracy, a conspiracy.
15 Der Priester Jojada gab den Obersten der Hundertschaften, die über die Truppen gestellt waren, Anordnung und befahl ihnen: "Führt sie aus den Reihen hinaus! Folgt ihr jemand, so schlagt ihn mit dem Schwerte nieder!" Der Priester wollte nämlich nicht, daß sie im Hause des Herrn getötet werde.	15 But Joiada commended the centurions that were over the army, and said to them: Have her forth without the precinct of the temple, and whosoever shall follow her, let him be slain with the sword. For the priest had said: Let her not be slain in the temple of the Lord.
16 Da legten sie Hand an sie, und sie wurde auf dem Fahrweg der Pferde in den Königspalast gebracht und dort getötet.	16 And they laid hands on her: and thrust her out by the way by which the horses go in, by the palace, and she was slain there.
17 Jojada schloß nun den Bund zwischen dem Herrn, dem König und dem Volk, daß sie nämlich das Volk des Herrn sein wollten, ferner zwischen dem König und dem Volke.	17 And Joiada made a covenant between the Lord, and the king, and the people, that they should be the people of the Lord, and between the king and the people.
18 Danach drangen alle Bürger des Landes in den Baalstempel ein und rissen ihn nieder. Seine Altäre und Bilder zerschlugen sie vollständig. Den Baalspriester Mattan töteten sie vor den Altären. Der Priester setzte Aufsichtsbehörden über den Tempel des Herrn ein.	18 And all the people of the land went into the temple of Baal, and broke down his altars, and his images they broke in pieces thoroughly: they slew also Mathan the priest of Baal before the altar. And the priest set guards in the house of the Lord.
19 Dann ließ er die Obersten der Hundertschaften, ferner die Karer und die Läufer sowie die gesamte Bevölkerung des Landes kommen. Man führte den König aus dem Tempel des Herrn und zog durch das Tor der Läufer in den Königspalast ein. Dort setzte er sich auf den Thron der Könige.	19 And he took the centurions, and the bands of the Cerethi and the Phelethi, and all the people of the land, and they brought the king from the house of the Lord: and they came by the way of the gate of the shieldbearers into the palace. and he sat on the throne of the kings.
20 Die gesamte Bevölkerung des Landes war voll der Freude, und die Stadt verhielt sich ruhig, obwohl man Atalja mit dem Schwert im Palast des Königs umgebracht hatte.	20 And all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was quiet: but Athalia was slain with the sword in the king's house.
	21 Now Joas was seven years old, when he began to reign.
