Sirach 38

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA VOLGARE
1 Treat the doctor with the honour that is his due, in consideration of his services; for he too has beencreated by the Lord.	1 Onora il medico per la necessitade; certo Iddio il creoe.
2 Healing itself comes from the Most High, like a gift received from a king.	2 Ogni medicina è da Dio, e dal re riceverà dono.
3 The doctor's learning keeps his head high, and the great regard him with awe.	3 La disciplina del medico, esaltoe il capo del medico, e nel cospetto de' grandi uomini fia laudato.
4 The Lord has brought forth medicinal herbs from the ground, and no one sensible wil despise them.	4 L' Altissimo creoe le medicine di terra, e il savio uomo non averà quelle medicine in orrore.
5 Did not a piece of wood once sweeten the water, thus giving proof of its power?	5 Or non è l'acqua amara fatta dolce dal legno?
6 He has also given some people knowledge, so that they may draw credit from his mighty works.	6 E fu data al conoscimento delli uomini la virtude delle medicine (di quelle cose s' appartiene); e l' Altissimo diede la scienza alli uomini, per essere onorato nelle sue maraviglie.
7 He uses these for healing and relieving pain; the druggist makes up a mixture from them.	7 Con queste cose il medico mitiga la doglia, e l' unguentario farà (d' esse) unguenti di soavitade, e comporranne unzioni di sanitade; e non si finiranno l' opere sue.
8 Thus, there is no end to his activities; thanks to him, well-being exists throughout the world.	8 La pace di Dio sopra la faccia della terra.
9 My child, when you are il , do not rebel, but pray to the Lord and he wil heal you.	9 Figliuolo, nella tua infermitade non dispregiare te medesimo; ma adora Iddio, acciò ch' egli ti guarisca.
10 Renounce your faults, keep your hands unsoiled, and cleanse your heart from al sin.	10 Partiti dal peccato, e dirizza le tue mani, e monda il cuore tuo da ogni peccato.
11 Offer incense and a memorial of fine flour, make as rich an offering as you can afford.	11 Dà soavitade e memoria di oblazione, e ingrassa l'offerta, e dà luogo al medico;
12 Then let the doctor take over -- the Lord created him too -- do not let him leave you, for you need him.	12 però che Iddio il creoe; e non si parta da te, però che le opere sue sono necessarie.
13 There are times when good health depends on doctors.	13 Egli è tempo, che tu corri nelle mani loro.
14 For they, in their turn, wil pray the Lord to grant them the grace to relieve and to heal, and so prolongyour life.	14 E loro pregheranno Iddio, che ti dirizzi il riposo loro, e la sanitade (tua) per la loro conversazione (teco).
15 Whoever sins in the eyes of his Maker, let such a one come under the care of the doctor!	15 Chi pecca nel cospetto di colui che il fece, caderae nelle mani del medico.
16 My child, shed tears over the dead, lament for the dead to show your sorrow, then bury the body withdue ceremony and do not fail to honour the grave.	16 Figliuolo, produci lacrime verso il morto, e sì come tu avessi infermitade comincia a piangere; e secondo la condizione cuopri il corpo di colui, e non disprezzare la sua sepoltura.
17 Weep bitterly, beat your breast, observe the mourning the dead deserves for a day or two, to avoidcensorious comment, and then be comforted in your sorrow;	17 Per lo suo partimento amaramente porta il dolore di colui uno die, e consòlati per la tristizia.
18 for grief can lead to death, a grief-stricken heart loses al energy.	18 E fa pianto, secondo il merito suo, uno die o due, per rimuover la mormorazione.
19 In affliction sorrow persists, a life of grief is hard to bear.	19 Dalla tristizia viene tosto la morte, (e impedisce) e cuopre la virtù (vitale); e la tristizia del cuore ripiega la testa dell' uomo.
20 Do not abandon your heart to grief, drive it away, bear your own end in mind.	20 La tristizia dimora nel ricusamento della consolazione; e la sostanza del povero sì è secondo il cuore suo.
21 Do not forget, there is no coming back; you cannot help the dead, and you will harm yourself.	21 Non darai in tristizia il cuore tuo; ma cacciala da te, e stiati a mente del fine.
22 'Remember my doom, since it will be yours too; I yesterday, you today!'	22 E non lo ti dimenticare; però che non deve ritornare chi muore; e a costui non gioveresti niente, e te medesimo peggioreresti.
23 Once the dead are laid to rest, let their memory rest, do not fret for them, once their spirit departs.	23 Ricorditi della sentenza mia; però che così sarà di te; a me fu jeri, e a te fia oggi.
24 Leisure gives the scribe the chance to acquire wisdom; a man with few commitments can grow wise.	24 (Al fine) fa riposare la memoria del morto nel riposo suo; e consola lui nello suscitamento della sua anima.
25 How can the ploughman become wise, whose sole ambition is to wield the goad, driving his oxen,engrossed in their work, his conversation limited to bul ocks,	25 Nota la sapienza nel tempo che tu starai in ozio; e chi scema nell' operare apprenderae la sapienza: però ch' elli si riempierae di sapienza
26 his thoughts absorbed in the furrows he traces and his long evenings spent in fattening heifers?	26 chi tiene l'aratro, e chi si gloria nello lanciotto, col pungitoio tocca i buoi, e conversa nell'opera di quelli, e il suo parlare è ne' figliuoli de' buoi.
27 Similarly with al workmen and craftsmen, toiling day and night; those who engrave seals, for evertrying to think of a new design, concentrating on catching a good likeness and staying up late to get the workdone.	27 Il cuore suo darae a volgere gli solchi, il suo vegliare nello ingrassare delle vacche.
28 Similarly with the blacksmith sitting by his anvil; he considers what to do with the pig-iron, the breath ofthe fire scorches his skin, as he contends with the heat of the furnace; the noise of the hammer deafens him, hiseyes are fixed on the pattern; he concentrates on getting the job done wel and stays up late to apply thefinishing touches.	28 Così ogni maestro di legname e artefice, il quale lavora la notte come il die; colui che intaglia figure rilevate, e la sua sollecitudine è in variare dipinture; darae il cuore suo nella similitudine della pittura, e nella sua vigilia compie l'opera.
29 Similarly with the potter, sitting at his work, turning the wheel with his feet; constantly on the alert overhis work, each flick of the finger premeditated;	29 Così è il fabbro, tenendosi presso all' incudine, e considerando il lavoro del ferro; il vapore del fuoco arderae le carni sue, e nel calore della fornace combatte.
30 he pummels the clay with his arm, and with his feet he kneads it; he concentrates on applying theglaze right and stays up late to clean the kiln.	30 La voce del martello innuova li suoi orecchi, e l'occhio suo (intende e) cerca la somiglianza del vasello.
31 Al these people rely on their hands and each is skilled at his own craft.	31 Il cuore suo darae nel compimento dell' opera, e la vigilia sua adornerae il difetto.
32 A town could not be inhabited without them, there would be no settling, no travel ing.	32 Così è il pentolaio, sedendo all' opera sua, volgendo co' piedi suoi la ruota; il quale sta sempre in luogo solitario per l'opera sua, e sanza numero è ogni sua operazione.
33 But you wil not find them in the parliament, they do not hold high rank in the assembly. They do not siton the judicial bench, and they do not meditate on the Law.	33 Col braccio suo formerae il luto, e dinanzi a' piedi suoi chinerae la forza sua.
34 They are not remarkable for their culture or judgement, nor are they found frequenting thephilosophers. They sustain the structure of the world, and their prayer is concerned with their trade.	34 Il cuore suo darà per comperare le limature, e la sua vigilia monderae la fornace.
	35 Tutti questi sperano nelle loro mani, e ciascuno è savio nell'arte sua.
	36 Sanza tutti questi non si edificherae la cittade.
	37 E non persevereranno, e non anderanno dentro, e non translateranno nella chiesa.
	38 Non sederanno sopra la sedia del giudice, e non intenderanno il testamento del giudicio; manifestamente [non] faranno disciplina e giudicio, e non saranno trovati nelli proverbii.
	39 Ma confermeranno la creatura del mondo; il priego di quelli si è nella operazione dell' arte, i quali prestano l'anima sua, agguadagnando nella legge dello Altissimo.
