Genesis 6

NEW JERUSALEM	Biblia Sagrada
1 When people began being numerous on earth, and daughters had been born to them,	1 Cuando los hombres comenzaron a multiplicarse sobre la superficie del suelo y engendraron hijas,
2 the sons of God, looking at the women, saw how beautiful they were and married as many of them asthey chose.	2 los hijos de Dios vieron que las hijas de los hombres eran bellas y se escogieron mujeres entre ellas.
3 Yahweh said, 'My spirit cannot be indefinitely responsible for human beings, who are only flesh; let thetime al owed each be a hundred and twenty years.'	3 Dijo entonces el Señor: «Mi espíritu no durará por siempre en el hombre, porque es carne; solo vivirá ciento veinte años».
4 The Nephilim were on earth in those days (and even afterwards) when the sons of God resorted to thewomen, and had children by them. These were the heroes of days gone by, men of renown.	4 Por aquel tiempo había gigantes en la tierra; e incluso después, cuando los hijos de Dios se unieron a las hijas de los hombres y engendraron hijos. Estos fueron los héroes de antaño, los hombres de renombre.
5 Yahweh saw that human wickedness was great on earth and that human hearts contrived nothing butwicked schemes al day long.	5 Al ver el Señor que la maldad del hombre crecía sobre la tierra y que todos los pensamientos de su corazón tienden siempre y únicamente al mal,
6 Yahweh regretted having made human beings on earth and was grieved at heart.	6 el Señor se arrepintió de haber creado al hombre en la tierra y le pesó de corazón.
7 And Yahweh said, 'I shal rid the surface of the earth of the human beings whom I created -- humanand animal, the creeping things and the birds of heaven -- for I regret having made them.'	7 Dijo, pues, el Señor: «Voy a borrar de la superficie de la tierra al hombre que he hecho, junto con los cuadrúpedos, reptiles y aves del cielo, pues me pesa haberlos hecho».
8 But Noah won Yahweh's favour.	8 Pero Noé obtuvo el favor del Señor.
9 This is the story of Noah: Noah was a good man, an upright man among his contemporaries, and hewalked with God.	9 Esta es la historia de Noé. Noé era un hombre justo e íntegro entre sus contemporáneos. Noé siguió los caminos de Dios
10 Noah fathered three sons, Shem, Ham and Japheth.	10 y engendró tres hijos: Sem, Cam y Jafet.
11 God saw that the earth was corrupt and ful of lawlessness.	11 La tierra estaba corrompida ante Dios y llena de violencia.
12 God looked at the earth: it was corrupt, for corrupt were the ways of al living things on earth.	12 Dios vio la tierra y, en efecto, estaba corrompida, pues todas las criaturas de la tierra se habían corrompido en su proceder.
13 God said to Noah, 'I have decided that the end has come for al living things, for the earth is full oflawlessness because of human beings. So I am now about to destroy them and the earth.	13 Dios dijo a Noé: «Por lo que a mí respecta, ha llegado el fin de toda criatura, pues por su culpa la tierra está llena de violencia; así que he pensado exterminarlos junto con la tierra.
14 Make yourself an ark out of resinous wood. Make it of reeds and caulk it with pitch inside and out.	14 Fabrícate un arca de madera de ciprés. Haz compartimentos en el arca, y calafatéala por dentro y por fuera.
15 This is how to make it: the length of the ark is to be three hundred cubits, its breadth fifty cubits, andits height thirty cubits.	15 La fabricarás así: medirá ciento cincuenta metros de larga, veinticinco de ancha y quince de alta.
16 Make a roof to the ark, building it up to a cubit higher. Put the entrance in the side of the ark, which isto be made with lower, second and third decks.	16 Haz una claraboya a medio metro del remate, pon una puerta al costado del arca y haz una cubierta inferior, otra intermedia y otra superior.
17 'For my part I am going to send the flood, the waters, on earth, to destroy al living things having thebreath of life under heaven; everything on earth is to perish.	17 Yo voy a enviar el diluvio a la tierra para exterminar toda criatura viviente bajo el cielo; todo cuanto existe en la tierra perecerá.
18 But with you I shal establish my covenant and you wil go aboard the ark, yourself, your sons, yourwife, and your sons' wives along with you.	18 Pero yo estableceré mi alianza contigo, y entrarás en el arca con tu mujer, tus hijos y sus mujeres.
19 From al living creatures, from al living things, you must take two of each kind aboard the ark, to savetheir lives with yours; they must be a male and a female.	19 Meterás también en el arca una pareja de cada criatura viviente, macho y hembra, para que conserve la vida contigo.
20 Of every species of bird, of every kind of animal and of every kind of creature that creeps along theground, two must go with you so that their lives may be saved.	20 De cada especie de aves, de ganados y de reptiles de la tierra, entrará una pareja contigo para conservar la vida.
21 For your part, provide yourself with eatables of al kinds, and lay in a store of them, to serve as foodfor yourself and them.'	21 Recoge toda clase de alimentos y almacénalos para que os sirva de sustento a ti y a ellos».
22 Noah did this; exactly as God commanded him, he did.	22 Noé hizo todo lo que le mandó Dios.
