Proverbs 9

1 Wisdom has built her house, she has set up her seven columns;	1 La sapienza si è costruita la sua casa, ha intagliato le sue sette colonne.
2 She has dressed her meat, mixed her wine, yes, she has spread her table.	2 Ha ucciso il suo bestiame, ha preparato il suo vino e ha imbandito la sua tavola.
3 She has sent out her maidens; she calls from the heights out over the city:	3 Ha mandato le sue ancelle a proclamare sui punti più alti della città:
4 "Let whoever is simple turn in here; to him who lacks understanding, I say,	4 «Chi è inesperto venga qui!». A chi è privo di senno ella dice:
5 Come, eat of my food, and drink of the wine I have mixed!	5 «Venite, mangiate il mio pane, bevete il vino che io ho preparato.
6 Forsake foolishness that you may live; advance in the way of understanding.	6 Abbandonate l’inesperienza e vivrete, andate diritti per la via dell’intelligenza».
7 He who corrects an arrogant man earns insult; and he who reproves a wicked man incurs opprobrium.	7 Chi corregge lo spavaldo ne riceve disprezzo e chi riprende il malvagio ne riceve oltraggio.
8 Reprove not an arrogant man, lest he hate you; reprove a wise man, and he will love you.	8 Non rimproverare lo spavaldo per non farti odiare; rimprovera il saggio ed egli ti sarà grato.
9 Instruct a wise man, and he becomes still wiser; teach a just man, and he advances in learning.	9 Da’ consigli al saggio e diventerà ancora più saggio; istruisci il giusto ed egli aumenterà il sapere.
10 The beginning of wisdom is the fear of the LORD, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.	10 Principio della sapienza è il timore del Signore, e conoscere il Santo è intelligenza.
11 For by me your days will be multiplied and the years of your life increased."	11 Per mezzo mio si moltiplicheranno i tuoi giorni, ti saranno aumentati gli anni di vita.
12 If you are wise, it is to your own advantage; and if you are arrogant, you alone shall bear it.	12 Se sei sapiente, lo sei a tuo vantaggio, se sei spavaldo, tu solo ne porterai la pena.
13 The woman Folly is fickle, she is inane, and knows nothing.	13 Donna follia è irrequieta, sciocca e ignorante.
14 She sits at the door of her house upon a seat on the city heights,	14 Sta seduta alla porta di casa, su un trono, in un luogo alto della città,
15 Calling to passers-by as they go on their straight way:	15 per invitare i passanti che vanno diritti per la loro strada:
16 "Let whoever is simple turn in here, or who lacks understanding; for to him I say,	16 «Chi è inesperto venga qui!». E a chi è privo di senno ella dice:
17 Stolen water is sweet, and bread gotten secretly is pleasing!"	17 «Le acque furtive sono dolci, il pane preso di nascosto è gustoso».
18 Little he knows that the shades are there, that in the depths of the nether world are her guests!	18 Egli non si accorge che là ci sono le ombre e i suoi invitati scendono nel profondo del regno dei morti.
