Psalmen 91

1 Wer da wohnt im Schirm des Höchstenund im Schatten des Allmächtigen weilt,	1 You who dwell in the shelter of the Most High, who abide in the shadow of the Almighty,
2 der spricht zum HERRN: »Meine Zuflucht und meine Burg,mein Gott, auf den ich vertraue!«	2 Say to the LORD, "My refuge and fortress, my God in whom I trust."
3 Denn er ist’s, der dich rettet aus den Voglers Schlinge,von der unheilvollen Pest.	3 God will rescue you from the fowler's snare, from the destroying plague,
4 Mit seinen Fittichen deckt er dich,und unter seinen Flügeln bist du geborgen,Schild und Panzer ist seine Treue.	4 Will shelter you with pinions, spread wings that you may take refuge; God's faithfulness is a protecting shield.
5 Du brauchst dich nicht zu fürchten vor nächtlichem Schrecken,vor dem Pfeil, der bei Tage daherfliegt,	5 You shall not fear the terror of the night nor the arrow that flies by day,
6 nicht vor der Pest, die im Finstern schleicht,vor der Seuche, die mittags wütet.	6 Nor the pestilence that roams in darkness, nor the plague that ravages at noon.
7 Ob tausend dir zur Seite fallen,zehntausend zu deiner Rechten:an dich kommt’s nicht heran;	7 Though a thousand fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, near you it shall not come.
8 nein, lediglich mit eignen Augen wirst du’s schauenund zusehn, wie den Frevlern vergolten wird.	8 You need simply watch; the punishment of the wicked you will see.
9 Ja, du, o HERR, bist meine Zuflucht:den Höchsten hast du zum Schutz dir erwählt.	9 You have the LORD for your refuge; you have made the Most High your stronghold.
10 Kein Übel wird dir begegnen,kein Unheilsschlag deinem Zelte nahn;	10 No evil shall befall you, no affliction come near your tent.
11 denn seine Engel wird er für dich entbieten,daß sie dich behüten auf all deinen Wegen;	11 For God commands the angels to guard you in all your ways.
12 auf den Armen werden sie dich tragen,damit dein Fuß nicht stoße an einen Stein (vgl. Mt 4,6);	12 With their hands they shall support you, lest you strike your foot against a stone.
13 über Löwen und Ottern wirst du schreiten (vgl. Lk 10,19),wirst junge Löwen und Schlangen zertreten.	13 You shall tread upon the asp and the viper, trample the lion and the dragon.
14 »Weil er fest an mir hängt, so will ich ihn retten,will ihn schützen, denn er kennt meinen Namen.	14 Whoever clings to me I will deliver; whoever knows my name I will set on high.
15 Ruft er mich an, so will ich ihn erhören;ich steh’ ihm bei in der Not,will frei ihn machen und geehrt.	15 All who call upon me I will answer; I will be with them in distress; I will deliver them and give them honor.
16 Mit langem Leben will ich ihn sättigenund lasse ihn schauen mein Heil.«	16 With length of days I will satisfy them and show them my saving power.
