KING JAMES BIBLESacra Bibbia Garofalo
I will thank thee, O Lord and King, and praise thee, O God my Saviour: I do give praise unto thy name:1 «Voglio darti gloria, o Signore e mio re; voglio lodar te, Dio mio salvatore;
For thou art my defender and helper, and has preserved my body from destruction, and from the snare of the slanderous tongue, and from the lips that forge lies, and has been mine helper against mine adversaries:2 celebro il tuo nome, o rifugio della mia vita, perché hai riscattato la mia anima dalla morte, hai fatto evitare la fossa al mio corpo e dalla mano dello Sheol hai sciolto il mio piede.
And hast delivered me, according to the multitude of they mercies and greatness of thy name, from the teeth of them that were ready to devour me, and out of the hands of such as sought after my life, and from the manifold afflictions which I had;3 mi hai protetto, secondo l’abbondanza della tua grazia, dalle insidie di chi minacciava il mio fianco e dalle mani che attentavano alla mia esistenza. Mi hai liberato da grandi difficoltà
From the choking of fire on every side, and from the midst of the fire which I kindled not;4 e dalla soffocazione del fuoco che mi circondava e da un fuoco che io non ho acceso;
From the depth of the belly of hell, from an unclean tongue, and from lying words.5 dal fondo di un cupo abisso, da labbra scellerate che tramano menzogne e dalle saette di una lingua fraudolenta».
By an accusation to the king from an unrighteous tongue my soul drew near even unto death, my life was near to the hell beneath.6 La mia anima stava per morire e la mia vita si avvicinava allo Sheol, sotto terra.
They compassed me on every side, and there was no man to help me: I looked for the succour of men, but there was none.7 Mi volsi intorno e non c’era chi mi aiutasse; cercai chi mi sostenesse, e non c'era.
Then thought I upon thy mercy, O Lord, and upon thy acts of old, how thou deliverest such as wait for thee, and savest them out of the hands of the enemies.8 Mi sono ricordato allora delle misericordia di Jahvè e delle grazie eterne di colui che salva chi confida in lui e lo redime da ogni male.
Then lifted I up my supplications from the earth, and prayed for deliverance from death.9 Levai dalla terra la voce e il clamore dalle porte dello Sheol;
I called upon the Lord, the Father of my Lord, that he would not leave me in the days of my trouble, and in the time of the proud, when there was no help.10 e pregai: «O Jahvè, tu sei, mio padre, tu sei potente e quindi mia salvezza.
I will praise thy name continually, and will sing praises with thanksgiving; and so my prayer was heard:11 Continuamente loderò il tuo nome e mi ricorderò di te, pregando».
For thou savedst me from destruction, and deliveredst me from the evil time: therefore will I give thanks, and praise thee, and bless they name, O Lord.12 Mi liberò da ogni male e mi salvò nel giorno dell’angoscia.
When I was yet young, or ever I went abroad, I desired wisdom openly in my prayer.13 In gioventù, prima di andare errando, bramai la sapienza e la cercai.
I prayed for her before the temple, and will seek her out even to the end.14 La domandai apertamente nella preghiera, deciso a cercarla a fondo.
Even from the flower till the grape was ripe hath my heart delighted in her: my foot went the right way, from my youth up sought I after her.15 Come uva che florida matura, così di essa si è rallegrato il mio cuore.
I bowed down mine ear a little, and received her, and gat much learning.16 Chinai alquanto il mio orecchio e l’ho accolta e feci acquisto di molto sapere.
I profited therein, therefore will I ascribe glory unto him that giveth me wisdom.17 Feci in essa profitto e darò lode al mio maestro.
For I purposed to do after her, and earnestly I followed that which is good; so shall I not be confounded.18 Proposi di essere perfetto con essa e non sono deluso di averla trovata.
My soul hath wrestled with her, and in my doings I was exact: I stretched forth my hands to the heaven above, and bewailed my ignorances of her.19 La mia anima aderì a essa e non volgerò altrove la faccia.
I directed my soul unto her, and I found her in pureness: I have had my heart joined with her from the beginning, therefore shall I not be foresaken.20 Ho diretto a essa la mia anima e l’ho ritrovata nella sua purezza.
My heart was troubled in seeking her: therefore have I gotten a good possession.21 Ardevo nell’intimo, cercandola è sono entrato in un felice possesso.
The Lord hath given me a tongue for my reward, and I will praise him therewith.22 Il Signore mi diede in premio la lingue con essa lo loderò.
Draw near unto me, ye unlearned, and dwell in the house of learning.23 Volgetevi a me, voi che non siete ancora eruditi, e rimanete alla mia scuola.
Wherefore are ye slow, and what say ye to these things, seeing your souls are very thirsty?24 Fino a quando mancherete di questo e di quello e la vostra anima avrà tanta sete?
I opened my mouth, and said, Buy her for yourselves without money.25 Apro la bocca e parlo: acquistatevi la sapienza senza argento,
Put your neck under the yoke, and let your soul receive instruction: she is hard at hand to find.26 piegate il collo sotto il suo giogo e la vostra anima ne assuma il peso; essa sta vicino a chi la cerca e chi vi si applica la trova.
Behold with your eyes, how that I have but little labour, and have gotten unto me much rest.27 Vedete con i vostri occhi che ho lavorato poco e vi ho trovato molto bene.
Get learning with a great sum of money, and get much gold by her.28 Ascoltate le mie istruzioni per quanto esigue e per me acquisterete oro e argento.
Let your soul rejoice in his mercy, and be not ashamed of his praise.29 Si rallegrerà la mia anima della mia scuola e voi non arrossirete dei miei cantici.
Work your work betimes, and in his time he will give you your reward.30 Fate le vostre opere secondo giustizia ed egli vi darà la ricompensa, a suo tempo.
