1 Saul redete vor seinem Sohn Jonatan und vor allen seinen Dienern davon, dass er David töten wolle. Sauls Sohn Jonatan aber hatte David sehr gern;	1 Now Saul spoke to his son Jonathan, and to all his servants, so that they would kill David. But Jonathan, the son of Saul, loved David very much.
2 deshalb berichtete er David davon und sagte: Mein Vater Saul will dich töten. Nimm dich also morgen früh in Acht, verbirg dich in einem Versteck!	2 And Jonathan revealed it to David, saying: “Saul, my father, is seeking to kill you. Because of this, I ask you, take care for yourself in the morning. And you should conceal yourself and remain in hiding.
3 Ich aber will zusammen mit meinem Vater auf das Feld hinausgehen; dort, wo du dich versteckt hältst, werde ich stehen bleiben und mit meinem Vater über dich reden, und wenn ich etwas erfahre, werde ich dir Bescheid geben.	3 Then I, going out, will be standing beside my father in the field, where you will be. And I will speak about you to my father. And whatever I see, I will report to you.”
4 Jonatan redete also zugunsten Davids mit seinem Vater und sagte zu ihm: Der König möge sich doch nicht an seinem Knecht David versündigen; denn er hat sich ja auch nicht an dir versündigt und seine Taten sind für dich sehr nützlich gewesen.	4 Then Jonathan spoke good things about David to his father Saul. And he said to him: “You should not sin, O king, against your servant David. For he has not sinned against you, and his works toward you are very good.
5 Er hat sein Leben aufs Spiel gesetzt und den Philister erschlagen. Der Herr hat (durch ihn) ganz Israel viel Hilfe gebracht. Du hast es selbst gesehen und dich darüber gefreut. Warum willst du dich nun versündigen und unschuldiges Blut vergießen, indem du David ohne jeden Grund tötest?	5 And he took his life in his own hand, and struck down the Philistine. And the Lord wrought a great salvation for all of Israel. You saw it, and you rejoiced. Why then would you sin against innocent blood by killing David, who is without guilt?”
6 Saul hörte auf Jonatan und schwor: So wahr der Herr lebt: David soll nicht umgebracht werden.	6 And when Saul had heard this, being pleased by the voice of Jonathan, he swore, “As the Lord lives, he shall not be killed.”
7 Jonatan rief David und berichtete ihm alles. Dann führte Jonatan David zu Saul und David war wieder in Sauls Dienst wie vorher.	7 And so Jonathan called David, and he revealed to him all of these words. And Jonathan led in David to Saul, and he was before him, just as he had been yesterday and the day before.
8 Der Krieg ging weiter und David zog wieder gegen die Philister in den Kampf. Er brachte ihnen eine schwere Niederlage bei und sie ergriffen die Flucht.	8 Then the war was stirred up again. And David went out and fought against the Philistines. And he struck them down with a great slaughter. And they fled from his face.
9 Doch wieder kam vom Herrn ein böser Geist über Saul, während er in seinem Haus saß und den Speer in der Hand hielt und David auf der Zither spielte.	9 And the evil spirit from the Lord came to Saul, who was sitting in his house and holding a lance. And David was playing music with his hand.
10 Da versuchte Saul, David mit dem Speer an die Wand zu spießen; aber er wich Saul aus, sodass der Speer in die Wand fuhr. David floh und brachte sich in Sicherheit. Noch in derselben Nacht	10 And Saul attempted to fix David to the wall with the lance. But David turned aside from the face of Saul. And the lance failed to wound him, and it became fixed in the wall. And David fled, and so he was saved that night.
11 schickte Saul Boten zum Haus Davids, die ihm auflauern und ihn am nächsten Morgen töten sollten. Doch Michal, Davids Frau, warnte ihn und sagte: Wenn du dich nicht noch in dieser Nacht in Sicherheit bringst, wirst du morgen früh umgebracht.	11 Therefore, Saul sent his guards to David’s house, so that they might watch for him, and so that he might be killed in the morning. And after Michal, his wife, had reported this to David, saying, “Unless you save yourself this night, tomorrow you will die,”
12 Michal ließ David durch das Fenster hinab, sodass er fliehen und sich in Sicherheit bringen konnte.	12 she lowered him down through a window. Then he fled and went away, and he was saved.
13 Dann nahm Michal das Götterbild, legte es in Davids Bett, umgab seinen Kopf mit einem Geflecht von Ziegenhaaren und deckte es mit einem Kleidungsstück zu.	13 Then Michal took a statue, and placed it on the bed. And she placed the pelt of a goat for the hair at its head. And she covered it with clothes.
14 Als nun Saul die Boten schickte, die David holen sollten, sagte sie: Er ist krank.	14 And Saul sent attendants to seize David. And it was answered that he was sick.
15 Saul schickte die Boten (zurück), um nach David zu sehen, und befahl: Bringt ihn im Bett zu mir her; er soll umgebracht werden.	15 And again, Saul sent messengers to see David, saying, “Bring him to me on the bed, so that he may be killed.”
16 Als die Boten kamen, entdeckten sie im Bett ein Götterbild mit einem Geflecht von Ziegenhaaren um den Kopf.	16 And when the messengers had arrived, they found a likeness on the bed, with a goat pelt at its head.
17 Da sagte Saul zu Michal: Warum hast du mich so betrogen und meinen Feind entkommen lassen, sodass er sich in Sicherheit bringen konnte? Michal antwortete Saul: Er hat zu mir gesagt: Lass mich weggehen, sonst bringe ich dich um.	17 And Saul said to Michal, “Why have you deceived me in this way, and released my enemy, so that he may flee?” And Michal responded to Saul, “Because he said to me, ‘Release me, otherwise I will kill you.’ ”
18 David floh also und brachte sich in Sicherheit. Er kam zu Samuel nach Rama und erzählte ihm alles, was Saul ihm angetan hatte. Dann ging er zusammen mit Samuel ins Prophetenhaus und beide blieben dort.	18 Now David was saved by fleeing, and he went to Samuel in Ramah. And he reported to him all that Saul had done to him. And he and Samuel went away and stayed at Naioth.
19 Als man nun Saul berichtete: David ist in Rama, und zwar im Prophetenhaus!,	19 Then it was reported to Saul by some, saying, “Behold, David is at Naioth, in Ramah.”
20 da schickte Saul Boten, um David holen zu lassen. Sobald sie die Schar der Propheten mit Samuel an ihrer Spitze in prophetischer Verzückung sahen, kam der Geist Gottes auch über die Boten Sauls und auch sie gerieten in Verzückung.	20 Therefore, Saul sent officers to seize David. And when they had seen a company of prophets prophesying, with Samuel presiding over them, the Spirit of the Lord also came to them, and they also began to prophesy.
21 Als man Saul das meldete, schickte er andere Boten; aber auch sie gerieten in Verzückung. Da schickte er zum dritten Mal Boten; doch auch sie gerieten in Verzückung.	21 And when this was reported to Saul, he sent other messengers. But they also prophesied. And again, Saul sent messengers a third time. And they also prophesied. And Saul, being exceedingly angry,
22 Darauf ging er selbst nach Rama. Als er zu der großen Zisterne in Sechu kam, fragte er: Wo sind Samuel und David? Man antwortete ihm: Sie sind gerade im Prophetenhaus in Rama.	22 also went to Ramah himself. And he went as far as the great cistern, which is in Socoh. And he inquired and said, “In which place are Samuel and David?” And it was told to him, “Behold, they are at Naioth, in Ramah.”
23 Als er von dort zum Prophetenhaus in Rama weiterging, kam auch über ihn der Geist Gottes, und er ging in prophetischer Verzückung weiter, bis er zum Prophetenhaus in Rama kam.	23 And he went to Naioth, in Ramah, and the Spirit of the Lord came to him also. And he continued on, walking and prophesying, until he arrived at Naioth, in Ramah.
24 Er zog sogar seine Kleider aus und blieb auch in Samuels Gegenwart in Verzückung. Den ganzen Tag und die ganze Nacht über lag er nackt da. Deshalb sagt man: Ist denn auch Saul unter den Propheten?	24 And he also took off his garments, and he prophesied with the others before Samuel. And he fell down naked, throughout that day and night. From this, too, is derived the proverb, “Could Saul also be among the prophets?”
